Rangers in Robin Propper transfer warning from Twente chief

The defender is stalling on a move from Rangers due to financial issues. The Ibrox club has accepted an offer from the Dutch side to re-sign their former captain, a year after selling him. However, the 31-year-old would need to take a pay cut, which is causing the delay. It is believed he wants Rangers to make up the difference before he agrees to the move. Read more: Jan Streuer, Twente's technical director, has hinted that Propper might also be waiting to see if he still gets playing time under Rangers' new manager, Russell Martin. He said: "Now there's a new manager at Rangers, he might play less. "Then he might be able to return. "But he'll want to wait and see first if he actually plays less. "We have to decide: do we wait for that or do we see what happens next?" Streuer also made similar comments earlier, urging Propper to resolve the financial situation soon. He said: "Robin and his agent will first have to settle some matters with the club. "He still has a contract, of course. "We're waiting for that to conclude and won't be calling him every day. "But since he wasn't at our training camp, a solution will have to be found quickly."

Robin Propper Rangers transfer latest as Twente set deadline

The Dutch club remain eager to secure the former captain, despite him starting for Rangers on the weekend. The defender made the starting line-up for Russell Martin's first official game as Rangers boss, a 2-2 draw against Club Brugge. However, his future at Ibrox remains uncertain, with Rangers reportedly looking for replacements. Twente's sports director, Jan Streuer, has named Propper as one of their three main summer targets. Streuer said: "There is no clarity yet with Robin, but we hope to get it very soon. "We have money to buy players." He added that Twente are also on the lookout for a "commanding attacking midfielder" and a "very good left winger." He said: "We are doing it differently now. "It is better to be aggressive in the transfer market. "You have certain players in mind and you want to make the right choice."

FC Twente reveal Propper talks amid Rangers transfer saga

Twente's sports director Jan Streuer admitted earlier this week that everything was up to Propper and they would be delighted to welcome him back. Now the Eredivisie side's boss Oosting has added his voice as they attempt to re-sign their former skipper. He said: "We have been in contact with Robin and I hope he returns. "I've had a discussion with him and hopefully, it will work out in our favour. Read more: "If it was up to me, the transfer would happen immediately, but I have learned in football it's best to be cautious. You never know for sure. "Propper made over 100 appearances for Twente in a three-year spell before quitting for a move to Rangers. "But despite making 22 league starts during the campaign and scoring his first goal for Rangers in an Old Firm win over Celtic, he failed to convince."

Robin Propper sees Rangers transfer exit myth dispelled as FC Twente chief hits back with spiky retort

The Eredivisie side's technical director has insisted Propper would be very welcome back in Enschede FC Twente transfer chief Jan Streuer insists Robin Propper will be welcomed back to the club with open arms ahead of the Dutchman's crunch talks to decide his Rangers future. The centre back has been heavily linked with a return to the Eredivisie side after just one season at Ibrox where his performances were hampered by injury and lack of consistency. ‌ Gers reported back for first team training at Auchenhowie on Monday as new boss Russell Martin gets down to work. ‌ The former Scotland international is set to seal a loan swoop for Bournemouth full-back Max Aarons and is also pushing to get Leicester veteran Conor Coady north of the border. However, Martin is also keen to assess his existing options in the squad and is set to sit down with Propper and other players on the fringes of the starting XI to decide the best course of action. FC Twente are in the market for defenders this summer following Sweden international Gustaf Lagerbielke's return to Celtic at the end of his season long loan. The Enschede-based club are closing in on the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk's Israeli centre half Stav Lemkin, who has just returned from a loan spell at Maccabi Tel Aviv. But technical director Streuer insists that won't scupper any deal to bring Propper back to the Netherlands. Speaking to RTV Oost, he said: "I'm not saying that at all. We were interested in Pröpper and he is very welcome. ‌ "He was also very welcome at the Rangers training today. Of course he still has a contract there. "We'll wait and see. There was a lot of pressure on him to come back. "We'll wait and see, he has to be one hundred percent behind it himself. ‌ "We hope he can come, that's not entirely certain yet. We have to wait and see. It's what I say: He's very welcome with us."
