Eisenhower Auditorium to add ‘Stomper' statue to help figth against mental health
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Eisenhower Auditorium on Penn State's campus will soon have a new statue called a 'Stomper' thanks to the Jana Marie Foundation. The Jana Marie Foundation works with local artists, schools and organizations to create life-sized sculptures of people formed out of old sneakers. The sculptures are called 'Stompers' to acknowledge their symbolic role in helping to stomp out stigma. On Monday, March 3, the public was invited to help paint and decorate pieces that will be included to help build the stomper that will be called 'Consuelo'. Consuelo comes from the Spanish word for comfort. The stomper gives community members a voice through the sharing of stories, stomps out the stigma that surrounds mental health, sparks important conversations in the community, creates opportunities for prosocial involvement, and provides crucial resources to individuals in need. 'It's really important to have town and gown activities where we can bring people together for conversation and that impact each and every one of us. And mental health is one of those topics,' Marisa Vicere, President & Founder of the Jana Marie Foundation said. This will be the only stomper on Penn State's campus, but the foundation hopes to add more in the future. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Tussey Teasers Run Series kicking off with Coyler ‘Sno Big Deal' 10k
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) — Runners looking for a scenic challenge can lace up for the return of the Tussey Teasers, a free six-race series through Rothrock State Forest designed to showcase the hilly, winding terrain of the Tussey Mountainback 50 Mile Relay and Ultramarathon. The series, organized by Tussey Mountainback race officials, begins Feb. 8 with the Colyer 'Sno Big Deal 10K and runs through June 22. Each event is free to enter, with timed results and water stations provided. Participants can use the races for personal goals or as preparation for the annual Tussey Mountainback event in October. Runners can also support the Jana Marie Foundation, the 2025 Tussey Mountainback beneficiary, by making donations at any of the events. 'The Tussey Mountainback is a scenic race through Rothrock State Forest during the fall,' Brian Brown, a runner from Lewisburg, said. 'The Tussey Teasers are a fun way to appreciate the course during the other three seasons. The Tussey Teasers offer a nice variety of elements that appeal to both trail runners and road runners.' Each race highlights a different section of the Tussey Mountainback's 50-mile course, with distances ranging from 6.2 to 13.1 miles. The first race, the Colyer 'Sno Big Deal' 10K, begins at 10 a.m. on Feb. 8, with participants meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the Colyer Lake parking lot on Lake Road. 'I think the Teasers are important,' Terry Reid of Bellefonte, a longtime participant, said. 'Because they offer an opportunity for anyone to venture into running and racing without any financial obstacle.'
