I've been holidaying naked for 25 years – I quit Derbyshire for the Canary Islands & now only wear clothes to the shops

A DIVORCEE who has been holidaying naked for 25 years and owns her own naturist resort, has opened up on loving life in the buff. Karie Jane, 58, a former theatre producer from Derbyshire, began holidaying nude back in 2000, with her and her ex-husband buying a second home in Costa Calma, Fuerteventura, the following year to strip down as often as possible. 8 8 8 8 After their divorce in 2013, she moved into the property permanently, turning it into the BHH Naturist Resort in 2019 and officially opening it the following year. The resort is now almost always fully booked, with guests even booking two years in advance and now, Karie only wears clothes when she goes to the shops. Not only this, but it also featured on Channel 5 's The Canary Islands with presenter Jane McDonald last year. Karie welcomes a range of guests, hosting LGBTQ+, ladies and ramblers events, and has recently introduced live demonstrations on how to apply aloe vera to soothe sunburn, which she described as 'miraculous'. Karie is celebrating the resort's fifth anniversary this year by attending a nudist festival, where she is planning on turning up in her bright pink Ford Ka, dubbed the 'Barbie car', and handing out 'bum towels' for fellow naturists to sit on. She thinks naturism is getting more popular each year and has witnessed guests working from the resort since lockdown, wearing nothing but a shirt and tie to take business calls. Speaking about her naked lifestyle, Karie told PA Real Life: 'When I need to go out for something, I go as quickly as possible so I can come back home and take my clothes off. 'I know I'm living a life that's less ordinary, that's for sure. 'I've effectively been naked for the last five years besides going out in public!' Soothing sunburn Since many of her guests get 'lots of sunburn in places you shouldn't get sunburn', Karie has started doing a demonstration for them on how to soothe it. I've been fat shamed my whole life but I don't cover up and I wear less clothes than ever before, I even teach yoga naked Karie discussed her new live demonstrations, as she explained: 'I take some aloe vera and tell them, and show them, to slather on aloe vera on their bits and it's miraculous. 'We get a lot of bald heads, actually, a lot of sunburnt bald heads, that's quite memorable.' After visiting her first naturist beach in 2000 in Spain, Karie was hooked and continued going on vacation in the buff. The following year, she and her husband bought a holiday home in Fuerteventura, made up of five apartments. Karie Jane Karie and her husband divorced in 2013 and she decided to move into the holiday home permanently that same year to mark her new chapter. She often rented out the apartments to families and surfers, and then, in 2020, she started offering naturist holidays to adults. The resort is already 'quite booked up' for next year and has even received bookings for 2027. 8 8 Getting more people into naturism Karie is passionate about getting more people into naturism, especially women, and holds multiple ladies' retreats throughout the year. In May, she held her first LGBTQ+ event – including naked sailing on a yacht – and has even had naturist ramblers come and stay. She has also upgraded the resort this year, adding in additional accommodation pods – the Hooters Nest for women and the Peckers Nest for men. What is Naturism? Naturism, also known as nudism, is a cultural and lifestyle movement that advocates for and practices social nudity in both private and public spaces. The philosophy behind naturism emphasises harmony with nature, self-respect, respect for others, and a sense of community. Naturism is a diverse and inclusive lifestyle choice that encourages individuals to embrace their natural state, foster a deeper connection with nature, and build a community based on mutual respect and equality. Naturists believe that naturism promotes a healthy and accepting attitude toward the human body, regardless of shape, size, or imperfections. Many naturists are also advocates for environmental conservation and sustainable living, believing in a close connection with nature. Naturism also fosters a sense of equality, as clothing often signifies social status, and its absence can help break down these barriers. She beamed: 'They've each got a private hot tub for two people, which I call the bird bath! 'They've got an ensuite bathroom, bar, double beds and people are loving it.' When upgrading the accommodation, one of her most challenging moments was having to explain the premise of a naturist resort to an electrician who turned up to carry out some work. 'When the man came round, he had all these naked bodies that he had to sort of go through, I think he was more surprised than I was. 'I was trying to explain to him but that was a funny day,' Karie recalled. This year, she is celebrating five years of the resort by attending British Naturism's NudeFest, the biggest naturist festival in the UK from July 7 to July 13. She confessed: 'I want to try naked basket weaving. 'I'll be driving my bright pink Ford Ka, my Barbie car, and it'll be full of BHH stickers, and I'll be handing out bum towels, which is the naturist etiquette that you sit on a towel. 'That's the number one etiquette, actually, over and above the non-sexual social nudity, it's the fact that you always sit on a towel. 'I've sponsored the event in previous years, but I've never actually attended in person so I'm hoping that there'll be hundreds of guests that have stayed here and we can meet up there. 'I'll be taking Canary honey rum as well!' 8 Embracing the nude lifestyle In comparison to when the resort first opened, Karie thinks more people are embracing the naturist lifestyle, especially after lockdown. She explained: 'A lot of people started the lifestyle in lockdown when you didn't need to wear clothes or go to work. 'Some people come and work from here, which is quite peculiar, to see a man in a shirt and tie and then nothing below every day! 'I think the age is coming down – when I started, it was kind of die-hard naturists who've been naturists for their whole lives. 'Lately, it's more and more people that are in their 30s or 40s and are just trying it for the first time and loving the freedom of it.' In terms of her personal life, Karie remains 'happily single' and enjoys the company of her two pet dogs, Snoopy, a labradoodle, and Milo, a Spanish water dog. To people wanting to try naturism, she shared: 'I suppose it's become totally normal to me, which I forget when I'm in the company of textiles, which are people who wear clothes. 'People are much more liberated – when you're talking to a group of naturists, they seem to be more open. 'It can be a liberating experience and we don't care what labels you wear, where you come from.'

Moment 'gutted' Coronation Street star is caught grimacing in audience of British Soap Awards after being 'robbed' of win in 'diabolical' verdict

Coronation Street fans were shocked after spotting a star's 'fuming' face as he lost out to a rival at the British Soap Awards. The annual ceremony took place on Saturday night at the Hackney Empire in London, but was broadcast last night, with a slew of the country's favourite soap stars in attendance and Jane McDonald playing host. But amid the celebratory atmosphere, ITV viewers spotted a particularly disappointed nominee who was denied the chance to take home one of the coveted gongs. Corrie actor Luca Toolan, who plays reformed bully Mason Radcliffe, looked very disappointed after rival BBC 's EastEnders nabbed the Best Single Episode award. The soap star, 21, was up for the prize for his death episode in January, which saw him stabbed to death by his brothers for helping the police gather evidence against them for a murder they committed. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Corrie actor Luca Toolan lost out to EastEnders' flashback episode, which saw Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) sink deeper into depression, hallucinating scenes from his adolescence at his family home in 1985 But he lost out to EastEnders' flashback episode, which saw Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) sink deeper into depression, hallucinating scenes from his adolescence at his family home in 1985. Viewers at home said Luca, whose nominated scene ended his 18-month stint on the cobbles, looked 'furious' at the result. One wrote on social media: 'The Mason actor didn't look too happy there.' Another said: 'Oh no! Luca Toolan looked gutted.' Others agreed with his disappointment, saying Coronation Street was robbed in the category: 'Sorry but that award should have gone to Luca for the knife crime story for Mason.'; 'How has Corrie's storyline with Mason not won anything tonight? They went into detail with that and raised awareness for knife crime.'; 'Excuse my language but how the f*** did Mason's death not win anything? Diabolical results.'; 'Corrie robbed. Should've won for that Mason storyline.' Others agreed with his disappointment, saying Coronation Street was robbed in the category After serving jail time for possession of a knife, Mason returned to Weatherfield determined to turn over a new leaf. But he soon found himself drawn back into trouble again as his brothers Matty and Logan (Seamus McGoff and Harry Lowbridge) came to hunt him down. When Mason's friend Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) rushed to his defence, bringing a knife, the blade was seized from him and tragically used to stab Mason. He was found by fellow Weatherfield resident Abi Webster (Sally Carman-Duttine), who screamed for help and tried to apply pressure to his bleeding wounds. Mason said to her: 'I'm going to die, aren't I? I'm going to die.' Abi replied: 'You're not going to die. Mason, listen to me, an ambulance is on the way and you're not going to die.' But with the paramedics distracted by a hoax call, his condition got much worse as he waited for them to arrive. He was rushed to hospital accompanied by Abi and his friend Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin), where medics fought to save him. But there was nothing to be done and the young lad soon died, leaving Abi and Betsy devastated and traumatised. While Corrie won only one award at the Soap Awards - Outstanding Achievement for the long-serving David Neilson as Roy Cropper - EastEnders received eight gongs in its 40th anniversary year. This is more than double the soap which won the next most awards at this year's ceremony - Hollyoaks, which took home three prizes. But the night got off to a terrible start when it aired on Thursday, with the show being delayed for seven whole minutes due to technical difficulties. Fans were greeted with a black screen from ITV with the message: 'We're sorry for the disruption'. The channel was down for a long seven minutes, meaning the show didn't air until well past 8pm, when it was due to start. And viewers were less than impressed, taking to social media to fume over the delay and insist that the ceremony should've been aired without a hitch as it was pre-recorded five days ago. They raged: 'Sorry for the disruption?? The British Soap Awards isn't even live!'; 'not the soap awards failing to start'; 'And it's not even live!' 'Eh, soap awards? We've already waited 5 days for this! Get your act together.'; 'It's finally started! 7 mins late'; Oh fun just when the #britishsoapawards were about to start. #itv'. '@ITV the British soap awards aren't even live, why tf is there a disruption?'; 'not the technical issue right as the soap awards start'. 'Soap awards are off to a cracking start with the sorry for the disruption screen'; 'SOMEONE CALL THE POLICE. BRITISH SOAP AWARDS ISNT WORKING'. 'Not us all having to wait 5 days for it, all the results leaked, and now THIS. Pull the over one @ITV'; 'Get on with it, it's not even live…' While others accused ITV of deliberately sabotaging the show after their own soaps, Coronation Street and Emmerdale, only won three gongs in total on the night, with their rivals sweeping the board. BBC's EastEnders cleaned up with a whopping eight wins while Channel 4's Hollyoaks scored three, to Emmerdale 's two and Corrie's singular prize. Fans took to X to quip: 'ITV really don't want us to see #EastEnders winning all those awards, do they'; ' itv really p***ed cos bbc won it all'. 'Omg British Soap Awards have frozen, is there anything ITV won't do to try and ruin #EastEnders beating their abysmal soaps?!?!' 'ITV don't want to air #BritishSoapAwards because they know how s**t Corrie did'; 'Not #EastEnders fans sabotaging the Soap Awards. THE POWER WE HAVE!' 'ITV doing anything to avoid airing the British Soap Awards'; 'ITV after reluctantly pressing the 'air' button on the #BritishSoapAwards'. 'is this a clever tactic from #ITV to try and avoid showing #EastEnders wiping the floor with all the itv soaps?' 'British soap awards not on, are ITV going to be sorry for the disruption for the next 2 hours just because EastEnders won almost everything.' 'Oooh itv getting salty about EastEnders winning the awards'; 'LOL THE SOAP AWARDS FAILING TO START! BBC has finally got it own back.' The residents of Albert Square kicked off their wins with Best Episode which went to Phil's Psychosis: The Mitchells In 1985. While Steve McFadden, who plays fan favourite Phil Mitchell, also won the Best Dramatic Performance award. Among the biggest moments of the night was Anita Watts scooping an award for her reprisal of the iconic Angie Watts for the first time in 37 years. The actress returned as the Queen Vic's first landlady for EastEnders' special anniversary episode in February, in a heartbreaking cameo with daughter Sharon - played by Letitia Dean. Her shock return left viewers stunned and in tears, with fans branding it the 'TV moment of the year', so her win came as no surprise. EastEnders also won for Best Comedic Performance, going to Patsy Palmer for her role as Bianca Jackson, while Navin Chowdhry scooped the Best Villain gong for playing Nish Panesar. Rudolph Walker & Angela Wynter (Patrick & Yolande Trueman) delivered another win for EastEnders as they won Best On-Screen Partnership. Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey Slater, won the Best Leading Performer Award and EastEnders also won the most coveted award of all: Best British Soap. Another standout moment of the ceremony was Sir David Jason taking to the stage to present the coveted Best Soap award. The Only Fools and Horses star, 85, cut a dapper figure in a classic black suit and bow tie as he announced EastEnders as the winner of the night's biggest prize. Hollyoaks' three awards started with Isabelle Smith who won Best Newcomer for her role as Frankie Osborne. Among the biggest moments of the night was Anita Watts scooping an award for her reprisal of the iconic Angie Watts for the first time in 37 years EastEnders also won for Best Comedic Performance, going to Patsy Palmer for her role as Bianca Jackson The Osbornes then won the Best Family award while Hollyoaks' sibling sexual abuse storyline received the Best Storyline award. Meanwhile, Emmerdale's Amelia Flanagan was overcome with emotion as she was announced as the winner of Best Young Performer for playing April Windsor. The 16-year-old - who previously won the prize for Best Young Performance for the role in 2015 - couldn't hid her shock as she took to the stage to accept the trophy. The actress beat out Corrie's Will Flanagan, EastEnders star Sonny Kendall and Hollyoaks' Noah Holdsworth for the win. While camera operator Mike Plant took home the Tony Warren Award which is given to employees working behind the scenes. Coronation Street's sole gong of the night was the Outstanding Achievement Award which went to David Neilson who has played Roy Cropper for 30 years. The technical troubles plaguing the awards this year come after last year's show was suddenly cancelled with no explanation, when the nominees had already been announced. The June 2023 edition reached 5.7 million viewers in total with just under one million streams on ITVX and a peak of 3.2m viewers via its linear overnight broadcast. The Osbornes then won the Best Family award while Hollyoaks' sibling sexual abuse storyline received the Best Storyline award (seen) Meanwhile, Emmerdale's Amelia Flanagan was overcome with emotion as she was announced as the winner of Best Young Performer for playing April Windsor Coronation Street's sole gong of the night was the Outstanding Achievement Award which went to David Neilson who has played Roy Cropper for 30 years Singer and self-confessed soaps lover Jane, 61, stepped in as a last-minute replacement for Phillip Schofield two years ago after he quit ITV after admitting to an affair with a young male This Morning colleague. Host Jane said: 'I'm beyond excited to be hosting The British Soap Awards again as I had such a ball hosting the awards last time. 'You all know I love my soaps, so to be in a room giving recognition to all these wonderful actors and their fantastic hard work is simply joyous. I can't wait to get my glittery frock on and celebrate with everyone.' Meanwhile, Gemma John-Lewis, Entertainment Commissioner ITV said: 'The British Soaps Awards are an opportunity to celebrate and shine a light on the incredible actors and production teams that deliver gripping drama and captivating stories throughout the year. 'We're delighted Jane McDonald, a self proclaimed number one soap fan, is returning to host the awards.' The ceremony, screened on ITV, was dominated by EastEnders who picked up a total of eight awards, including the prestigious Best British Soap. However, The Sun can exclusively reveal a number of moments which were pulled from ITV's final broadcast - including a series of faux pas' from former soap stars as well as heavily edited speeches from Jaime Winstone and Patsy Palmer. One moment that failed to make it to air involved former soap star Jan Pearson, who played Karen Hollins in now axed BBC soap Doctors. She made a triumphant comeback to the Soap Awards stage following the programme's cancellation in order to present the gong for Best On-Screen Partnership. Jan was stood alongside co-star Chris Walker to hand out the gong to EastEnders duo Rudolph Walker and Angela Wynter. However, she was forced to read out the nominations a total of THREE times. And whilst one audience mole suggested on X the re-records took place as a result of the loud cheers for Corrie pair Vicky Myers and Alison King, The Sun can reveal an entirely different reason was behind the triple taping. Actress Jan suffered an on-stage coughing fit which saw her struggle to read out the names of the nominees. She gave it three goes but was affected by her tickly throat each time. The second and third attempts were both filmed after the gong was handed out with the audience already aware of exactly who had won. British Soap Awards viewers accuse ITV of 'cutting out' chants for EastEnders actress Elsewhere, whilst hostess Jane was on top form for most of the evening, there were a handful of occasions where she was forced to do a series of re-takes despite the ceremony supposedly filming as live. One audience member told The Sun: 'The warm-up guy made it clear from the start that they were recording the ceremony as live and so everyone had to be on their best behaviour. 'It also put a lot of pressure on Jane as she was expected to rattle through her hosting duties without a hitch but with so many links to record, she was bound to mess up on a few of them.' Just moments after the show kicked off, Jane was forced to re-record one of her links about hunky Coronation Street star Jacob Roberts. The actor, who plays lothario copper PC Kit Green, caught Jane's eye and she was quick to make a joke about his good looks. However, she tripped up over her own words and was left rad-faced as she admitted she had become too flustered thinking about Jacob. The audience erupted into laughter as Jane attempted to brush off her hilarious mishap and instead re-told her joke just seconds into the event. The moment left Jacob looking down at the ground after unexpectedly becoming the centre of attention. Someone else who suffered an embarrassing blunder was awards presenter Denise Welch. She was also forced into re-filming her entire segment after a blunder with her very own CHEE award. As part of a skit, Denise was handed a joke prize by Shirlie Kemp to mark her achievement of having played roles in all four major soaps. The trophy was made out of items connected to each of the four soaps but Denise held her prize back to front meaning the audience and cameras could not see what she was referring too. Just before handing out the award for Best Newcomer, Denise was halted by bosses and instructed to re-do the entire segment again and have the trophy facing the crowd. One onlooker told The Sun: 'Denise was referring to the trophy being connected to all four soaps but no one could see anything. 'It led to a lot of blank and unimpressed expressions on the soap stars faces when the cameras cut to a close-up hoping to get a hilarious reaction from them. 'It fell a bit flat but Denise was able to pick the mood back up when she was told of her error.' During the ITV broadcast, clever camera trickery saw the award facing the correct way as Denise gave her speech. Actress Jaime Winstone delivered a whopping five-minute speech that had to be edited down to less than a minute after she accepted the gong for the first award of the night for Best Single Episode. The star did not mince her words as she spoke about the honour of being part of the special episodes set in 1985 but less than half of it made it into the final edit. Patsy Palmer's X-rated speech about her vagina also saw some editing after she made a slew of vulgar jokes after accepting the award for Best Comedy Performance.

The moment EastEnders wins Best Soap at the British Soap Awards

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The British Soap Awards tonight aired the moment EastEnders clinched the top gong for this year's serial dramas. The star-studded ITV awards took place on Saturday after a one-year hiatus, with the broadcast delayed until tonight (Thursday, June 5). Jane McDonald was on hosting duties for the ceremony at Hackney Empire, and the red carpet was awash with the familiar faces who had swapped the cobbles and the Dales for a night of showbiz. They were there to celebrate a big year in soapland, after EastEnders rang in its 40th anniversary and Corrie reached the epic milestone of 65 years on screen. Most soaps managed to bag something, with the full list of winners announced just before the award show aired on TV. In the big category of the night, EastEnders came up trumps for the highly coveted Best Soap Award, with Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks also nominated. The award was presented by Sir David Jason, who received a standing ovation as he walked onto the stage. The Only Fools and Horses legend said: 'Throughout my career, I've been lucky enough to work with some incredibly talented people, and they all pull together to bring magic to our television screens. 'Making a remarkable show takes, you all know, remarkable people, and that's why this award celebrates the extraordinary things achieved by each and every one of you here today.' A huge cheer went up in the room when Sir Jason announced it was the Walford gang who won it. Adam Woodyatt stood at the podium to accept the award, on behalf of all the cast who trooped up on stage. 'We couldn't be happier,' smiled Woodyatt, holding the gong. 'We've had the best 40th anniversary ever. 'It's just been a fantastic time. When Chris [Clenshaw] started telling us what he had planned for the 40th anniversary, I turned around and said, he's just bonkers. We're never going to do it. And we did. 'Hopefully we'll be back next year for another one.' The BBC One soap has had a whopper of a year, celebrating four decades on air with an explosive anniversary week that saw the return of Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) and a surprise appearance from Angie Watts (Anita Dobson) as the Queen Vic was blown to smithereens. More Trending The storyline that perhaps resonated with viewers the most was Phil Mitchell's (Steve McFadden) mental health battle, which won the popular serial a number of those gongs tonight. The top gong wasn't the only win for the soap, with EastEnders clinching an impressive eight awards in total. These were Best Single Episode, Scene of the Year, Villain of the Year, Best Dramatic Performance, Best Leading Performer, Best On-Screen Partnership and Best Comedy Performance – quite the haul the team will have had to take home. Patsy Palmer leaves British Soap Awards host Jane McDonald and viewers shell-shocked with bizarre ‘vagina' speech

The iconic soap star, who dazzled in a cobalt blue suit, took to the stage to collect her award. But the TV favourite stunned fans and those in the audience with her cheeky speech. Patsy said: "Knock knock... "Listen I haven't prepared a speech because I thought Jack [P. Shepherd] was going to win," the camera then cut to the David Platt actor who pulled a surprised expression. Patsy continued: "To be able to be funny and all of what we've seen tonight, is nothing short of a miracle really. "I want to thank Shona McGarty for leaving, because if she hadn't have left, I wouldn't have come back. "I wasn't expecting that and I'm so glad I did because I stayed for the 40th and that was really where we celebrated a woman's vagina. "I think vaginas have always been funny." The star then burst out laughing, with Michelle Collins, who plays Cindy Beale, looking mortified. Ian Beale actor Adam Woodyatt also looked gobsmacked at his co-star's remark, while host Jane McDonald was left shell-shocked. The reference was clearly in relation to Sonia Fowler giving birth in the pub during the live 40th anniversary episode. Sonia, played by Natalie Cassidy, welcomed baby daughter Julia during the Queen Vic's explosion. The scene saw her give birth with the help of Bianca and Lauren Branning, portrayed by Jacqueline Jossa. Despite leaving some stunned by her speech, the audience took it in good humour and were in hysterics. Patsy continued: "All jokes aside, coming back to EastEnders after quite some time has been the most amazing experience for me. "I'm beyond grateful, I'm not going to cry because it's a comedy award, but you have no idea what a gift it has been for me to come back." Following her speech, Jane returned to the stage. Lost for words, the host said: "I don't know quite what to say. How many times can you say vagina in one speech." EastEnders swept the board after collecting a total of eight gongs in its 40th anniversary year - more than double its nearest rival, Channel 4's Hollyoaks who got three awards. EastEnders was awarded Best Soap after its huge live episode and anniversary week which saw Anita Dobson return as Angie Watts and Martin Fowler killed off in the arms of his love, Stacey.
