Rahul Fazilpuria shot at in Gurgaon: Man who ‘carried out recce' sent to 5-day police custody

Days after Haryana singer-rapper Rahul Fazilpuria alleged he was shot at in Gurgaon, a city court on Thursday sent the only accused who has been arrested so far to five days of police custody. Identified as Vishal, the 25-year-old Sonipat resident allegedly carried out the recce for the shooting. Around 5.50 pm on Monday, when the 35-year-old singer was leaving the Fazilpur area in his car, men allegedly driving a white Tata Punch – which had initially trailed him – opened fire on him. The bullet had struck a pole, and the perpetrators fled in the same vehicle, according to officers. The Sector 40 Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested Vishal, a resident of Jajal in Sonipat. 'His questioning has revealed that Vishal, along with accomplices, conducted reconnaissance of the victim's routes and locations while staying in various guest houses in Gurgaon. On the day of the incident, he tracked the singer-rapper and shared details with his associates, who then executed the shooting,' a police spokesperson had said. Police added that Vishal was involved in renting the Tata Punch car used in the crime, which has since been recovered. On Wednesday evening, a post surfaced on social media in which a person claimed responsibility for the shooting. The note said the shooting was the fallout of a financial dispute involving Rs 5 crore that the singer allegedly did not return. Earlier on Tuesday, CCTV camera footage had emerged of the Tata Punch car allegedly following the singer. In his complaint to the police, Fazilpuria said that he got into his vehicle and escaped unhurt as the assailants could not chase him due to the traffic. The singer-rapper, who has been promoting Haryanvi folk music, has several hits to his credit. In 2014, he rose to fame with his rap song 'Ladki Kar Gayi Chull', which also featured in the Bollywood movie 'Kapoor and Sons', starring Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, and Fawad Khan. He had also unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election in 2024 from Gurgaon as a Jannayak Janta Party candidate against Congress's Raj Babbar and BJP's Rao Inderjit Singh, who was elected. Last year, he was booked by the Gurgaon Police along with YouTuber Elvish Yadav, for allegedly using rare species of snakes and a .32 bore pistol in a music video. The duo was also questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with allegations linked to money laundering and rave parties.

Singer-rapper Rahul Fazilpuria claims he was shot at in Gurgaon

Haryanvi singer-rapper Rahul Fazilpuria has alleged that unknown assailants in a car shot at him on Monday on the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) near Badshahpur in Gurgaon's Sector 71. He escaped unhurt. Police said a probe has been launched into the incident. 'No one has been injured, nor has any vehicle been hit by a bullet in this incident. The Gurugram Police's Scene of Crime team reached the location. The alleged gunshot has not been confirmed so far. The incident is being investigated from all angles,' read an official statement by the city police. The 35-year-old singer-rapper called up the local station house officer (SHO) to inform them about the incident, said sources. He was allegedly standing near his SUV when the attackers came in another car. Soon after, he sat in his car and sped away. The attacker could not chase him due to the traffic, and he managed to escape, police were told. According to him, the attackers fired at him multiple times, but he was not injured and his vehicle was not damaged, sources added. An officer said that a team immediately rushed to the spot as soon as they got the information. A senior officer said the CCTV cameras installed nearby are being checked to identify the accused. Sources said police had earlier received a tip-off over a threat to a singer living in Gurgaon. Fazilpuria had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election in 2024 from Gurgaon as a Jannayak Janta Party candidate against Congress's Raj Babbar and BJP's Rao Inderjit Singh, who was elected. The JJP was founded in 2018 by Dushyant Chautala, former deputy chief minister of Haryana. The agency had confiscated movable and immovable assets worth over Rs 58 lakh allegedly belonging to the duo under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in connection with a similar snake venom case registered by the Noida Police.

JJP's Dushyant Chautala: ‘I will join the fight in Supreme Court for 75% local quota in private jobs'

2024 was a tumultuous year for Haryana-based Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and its founder Dushyant Chautala. In March last year, the BJP snapped ties with it just ahead of the Assembly polls. Dushyant, who was the Deputy CM in the outgoing government by virtue of the 10 seats the JJP had won in 2024, saw his party blanked out, with not a single seat and a vote share down to a mere 0.90%. Dushyant has been trying to revamp his party, and has now announced a membership drive. In an interview with The Indian Express, Dushyant says he is confident of the JJP's re-emergence as a force in Haryana, and says he hopes to venture into Rajasthan, Delhi, and Punjab. Excerpts: We are going to every booth across all the 90 Assembly constituencies in Haryana. With an average enrollment of 5,000 new members in each of the 90 constituencies of Haryana, we plan to get at least five lakh new members in this ongoing membership drive. The JJP is also going to launch a mega drive to connect the youth with the party. I made a strong statement against the BJP just yesterday (Thursday). The Chief Minister has failed badly in controlling the deteriorating law and order situation in Haryana. When the CM took over, his slogan was: 'Goonde pardesh chhod do (Gangsters, leave the state)'. Today goonde pradesh mein wapas aa rahe hain (gangsters are now coming back to the state). What happened in Shahbad last week (referring to the murder of a liquor contractor for which gangster Noni Rana claimed responsibility)? The CM was chairing a meeting with the DGP and liquor vendors assuring them safety and security. On the other hand, a liquor contractor was shot dead in full public view. A similar incident happened in Panchkula. Where is the CM? A recent example of inefficiency is the water crisis with Punjab… Mismanagement was the biggest reason behind Haryana not getting its legitimate share of water. Nobody took responsibility. He (Saini) was cracking jokes… At the all-party meeting that was chaired on the matter, I gave him (Saini) the idea of writing to the Centre to get paramilitary forces deployed at the Bhakra Nangal Dam. We have an organisation in Delhi as well as Rajasthan. We have appointed a new party president in Punjab. We have a structure in Uttar Pradesh. We are definitely going beyond Haryana and shall continue our expansion plans. It was a common minimum programme under which the alliance was done (after the 2019 Assembly polls). We (the JJP) were successful in getting our promises implemented by being a part of the government. Be it Panchayati Raj reservations or increasing the social security pension amount… We are still pursuing it. And the matter is now pending in the Supreme Court, so we are legally pursuing it. The next hearing is in November. We shall be requesting the Court to grant regular hearings in the matter. I even met the CM and requested the Solicitor General of India and Haryana Advocate General represent this case. I will personally be filing an application to be made a party in this case. There is no controversy. It is very clear. In 2018 too, I had said that we wanted to put his (Chautala's) picture (on the JJP's posters)… But at that time he was the president of the opposition political party (INLD). Legally, we could not use it. Today, everybody remembers him for his great achievements. Nobody in the JJP has ever said anything bad about him ever. He has always been our guiding force… The airport in Hisar has a very bright future. But the government needs professional people to run it. Until the government does not hire a CEO and other professional players, such plans can not be materialised. If handled well, this area can boom even bigger than Gurugram.

JJP launches drive, aims to add 5,000 new members to each Assembly constituency

In a bid to revive itself politically after a setback in the Haryana Assembly election last year, the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) on Sunday launched a Statewide membership drive led by its top leadership with the focus on the youth and women. The campaign would continue till July 31. The JJP, junior partner in the previous Bharatiya Janata Party-led Haryana government, had drawn a blank in the Assembly election last year with its vote share reducing from 14.8% to less than 1%. It had 10 MLAs in the previous Vidhan Sabha. Kicking off the party's membership campaign at Jind and Sonipat, former Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala said the party aimed to recruit 5,000 new members in each of the 90 Assembly constituencies and 25 active members at each booth. In an obvious reference to the party's defeat in the recent election, Mr. Chautala, who had faced the ire of the farmers for not supporting their agitation against the three agriculture laws proposed by the Centre, said ups and downs are part of the political journey, and exhorted the party's cadres to work hard as 'struggle never goes in vain'. The party claimed that thousands of people, including former Indian National Lok Dal general secretary Dilbagh Antil and Congress's Anoop Singh Dahiya along with their supporters, took the JJP's membership on the first day of the drive. Campaign launches The party's general secretary, Digvijay Singh Chautala, launched the membership campaign in Sirsa and Fatehabad. He announced that the JJP will kick off a 'Yuva Jodo Abhiyan' from Kaithal on June 18. Former MLA Naina Singh and former Julana MLA Amarjeet Dhanda launched the party's membership drive programme in Hisar. Ms. Singh said women's participation in JJP had always been special and during this membership campaign the party's women office-bearers and workers would leave no stone unturned. JJP national president Ajay Singh Chautala started the membership campaign in Bhiwani and Dadri and exhorted the party's rank and file to go to every village, city and town of the State to connect people with the JJP and strengthen the party.
