UP: PM Modi announces ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh after 5 killed in Sambhal wedding car crash
Sambhal (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 5 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the Sambhal wedding car crash incident and annoumced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for kin of each deceased. In a post on X, PM Modi said, 'Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in an accident in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the mishap. May the injured recover soon.' 'An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,' he wrote. The accident that took place in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district, where five people lost their lives and several others were injured after a car carrying members of a wedding procession crashed into a wall. The incident occurred around 7:30 pm in the Junawai area, when a Bolero Neo vehicle rammed into the wall of Janta Inter College. According to Sambhal SP KK Bishnoi, police received information about the accident in the evening and immediately rushed to the spot. 'At around 7.30 pm, we received information that a Bolero Neo car had collided with the wall of Janta Inter College. Police reached the spot and removed the car with the help of a JCB,' he told ANI. 'Five critically injured have been referred to Aligarh, and the other five lost their lives on the spot. They were residents of Hargovind village under the Junawai police station area,' the SP added. The victims were part of a wedding procession, and the groom was on his way to his wedding. Initial investigations suggested that the accident occurred due to a mistake by the driver. 'The car probably collided due to the driver's mistake...' SP Bishnoi later said. Further investigation is still ongoing. (ANI)

SUV crashes into college wall in UP's Sambhal, 20-year-old groom among 8 killed
A 20-year-old's wedding procession in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal ended in tragedy on Friday evening as eight people, including a three-year-old girl, were killed after an SUV with 10 people in it lost control and rammed into the boundary wall of a college. The police identified the deceased as Suraj Pal, the groom, his sister-in-law, Asha, 26, her three-year-old daughter Aishwarya, Ganesh, 29, Ravi, 28, Sachin, 22, Madhu, 20, and Komal, 16. While Suraj, Asha, Aishwarya, Ganesh and Sachin died on the spot, Komal, Madhu, and Ravi died during treatment in Aligarh, the police said. Anukriti Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police, Sambhal, said that the Junawai police station in Sambhal police received information of the accident at around 7.15 pm. 'A Bolero had rammed into the walls of Janta Inter College. Those seated inside were going to attend a wedding along with the groom. We reached there and, with the help of locals, rescued those inside,' she said. 'Himanshi, 6, and Deva, 20, are undergoing treatment, and Deva is said to be critical,' said Sharma. She said that locals who saw the accident told the police that the vehicle was speeding and overturned, after which it rammed into the walls of the college. 'We have referred those injured to Aligarh,' Sharma added. Krishan Kumar Bishnoi, Superintendent of Police, Sambhal, said that the vehicle was completely damaged. 'We used a JCB and cut the car to rescue those inside and admitted those on board to the hospital. Five died on the spot, and five were admitted. Three died during the treatment,' he said. Bishnoi said that the family members were residents of Har Govindpur village in Sambhal district, and the groom and his family were en route to Badaun. 'It happened due to the mistake of the driver that the vehicle overturned and hit the walls of the college.
