SUV Or Lounge On Wheels? Toyota's X-Van Gear Concept Set To Hit Roads In October 2025
Last Updated: The Cross Van is expected to offer two engine choices: a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder Dynamic Force petrol engine and a 1.8-litre hybrid version paired with an electric motor. Toyota's futuristic X-Van Gear Concept, first seen at the Japan Mobility Show in 2023, is finally headed for production. According to reports from Japanese magazine Motor-Fan, the production version will be called the Toyota Cross Van and could launch as early as October 2025. Expected to be priced around 3 million yen (approx. Rs 17.2 Lakhs or $20,000), the Cross Van is designed to blend the boldness of an SUV with the practicality of a people mover, as per Motor Fan. Design The Cross Van will measure 4,695 mm long, 1,820 mm wide, and 1,855 mm tall, offering a strong road presence. It will comfortably seat six people across three rows, with smart space-saving innovations like a swivelling front seat and a fold-down second row that doubles up as a table. The absence of B-pillars allows for easy entry and exit, while the flexible interior turns the vehicle into a perfect companion for long drives, camping, or just lounging in style. Toyota plans to offer the Cross Van with two engine options: Both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions are likely. India Launch Toyota even showcased the X-Van Concept at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025 earlier this year, hinting that it could also make its way to Indian roads, as per Team BHP. view comments First Published: July 23, 2025, 09:05 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Honda Prelude returns: Retro magic meets hybrid innovation in new sports coupe
Honda's iconic Prelude is making a celebrated comeback, blending its revered retro styling with cutting-edge hybrid technology to captivate a new generation of drivers. After years of anticipation, Honda has confirmed that the all-new, sixth-generation Prelude will enter production and reach U.S. showrooms in late 2025, marking its first return since the model's discontinuation in 2001. The new Prelude, first previewed as a concept at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show and later showcased at the Los Angeles Auto Show, stays true to its sporty coupe heritage. Its design echoes the classic lines that made the original a favorite among enthusiasts, while introducing a modern, aerodynamic silhouette and bold color options like Crystal Black Pearl and Rallye Red. The coupe's full LED headlight system and connected taillights further enhance its contemporary appeal, and premium touches such as sequential turn signals are expected to be available. Under the hood, the Prelude is powered by Honda's award-winning two-motor hybrid powertrain, likely a variant of the system found in the Accord, Civic, and CR-V hybrids. This setup pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motors, delivering an estimated output between 200 and 240 horsepower, balancing spirited performance with eco-friendly efficiency. The hybrid system is part of Honda's broader strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and transition all sales to battery-electric and fuel-cell vehicles by 2040.A standout feature in the new Prelude is the debut of Honda's innovative S+ Shift mode. This technology is engineered to maximize driver engagement by simulating sharp gear changes, precisely controlling engine RPM during acceleration and deceleration, and synchronizing engine sounds through the Active Sound System. Honda claims this will 'stimulate all of the driver's senses,' offering a dynamic and immersive driving experience reminiscent of the Prelude's athletic legacy. Inside, the Prelude promises a blend of luxury and technology. The cabin is expected to feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen, customizable digital displays, premium leather and aluminum trim, and amenities such as heated and ventilated front seats, wireless charging, and a Bose premium sound system. Safety will be bolstered by Honda's Sensing 360 suite, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, and Automatic Emergency Braking. Pricing details have yet to be finalized, but industry estimates suggest a range from $49,000 to $60,000, with multiple trims–EX, Touring, and Elite–offering varying levels of performance and luxury. The Touring trim is expected to provide the best balance of features and efficiency.

Mazda's Rotary Sports Car Will Be Sold Alongside The Next Miata
We were smitten by the Iconic SP nearly two years ago when Mazda unveiled it at the Japan Mobility Show. However, once we stopped drooling over the coupe's swoopy design, a question began to surface: Is this the next Miata? It was a fair assumption. Mazda is still a relatively small company, and perhaps it can't afford to sell two sports cars. The Zoom-Zoom brand even suggested it could shrink the vehicle down to the MX-5's footprint . Thankfully, the Iconic SP isn't a preview of the fifth-generation Miata. Mazda Chief Technical Officer Ryuichi Umeshita told Motor Trend the rotary sports car will be a separate model positioned above the beloved roadster. He even said we 'can expect Iconic SP will be a good successor for RX-7,' although he stopped short of confirming the return of the iconic nameplate. He did, however, deny that it would wear the Cosmo badge as a nod to the Wankel-powered lineage that began in the mid-1960s. So, how big is the Iconic SP anyway? It measures 164.5 inches (4180 millimeters) in length, 72.8 inches (1850 millimeters) in width, and stands just 45.2 inches (1150 millimeters) tall, riding on a 102-inch (2590-millimeter) wheelbase. That makes it 10.4 inches (265 mm) longer and 4.7 inches (120 mm) wider than the ND-generation Miata. At the same time, it sits 3.3 inches (85 mm) lower. Despite having a wheelbase 11 inches (280 mm) longer than the tossable roadster, it still has just two seats. Well, at least the concept did. The show car was relatively light, weighing 3,197 pounds (1,450 kg). For comparison, a Miata RF with a manual transmission is 728 pounds (330 kg) lighter. As for power, the concept delivers 365 hp via an electric motor, with a dual-rotor combustion engine serving as a generator to recharge the battery. Since its debut, Mazda has confirmed plans for a dual-rotor setup in America, offering more muscle than the MX-30's single-rotor range extender. While the crossover's system didn't meet U.S. regulations, the new hardware will be made compliant. Interestingly, Mazda is also considering a version where the rotary engine directly drives the wheels. This would be the first time since the RX-8 bowed out in 2012 with the Japan-exclusive Spirit R edition. A fully electric Iconic SP is technically possible, but Mazda says it won't happen. No surprise there. Mazda Iconic SP Concept 23 The rotary sports car could arrive before the next Miata. Mazda's global design chief, Masashi Nakayama, told Motor Trend that the current MX-5 will remain on sale for a few more years. When the replacement does arrive, it will inherit some styling cues from the Iconic SP. Power will probably come from the newly announced Skyactiv-Z engine , with Umeshita confirming the six-speed manual, rear-wheel drive, and lightweight construction are all here to stay. It's too early for Mazda to discuss pricing, but the rotary sports car will almost certainly carry a hefty premium over the MX-5. The hardtop RF currently starts at $38,735 before options, so expect the larger Iconic SP to be priced above $50,000, possibly even north of $60,000. Subaru Just Dropped a Teaser for a Sporty New Model – Could it Be the STI Successor?
Subaru's iconic rally-derived sport sedan, the WRX STI, has been absent from the market since 2021. Although its slightly less potent sibling, the WRX, is still available for purchase from your local Subaru dealer, Subaru loyalists have long been awaiting any sort of news about an upcoming replacement for the hotter, Subaru Technica International-developed model. That lengthy wait may almost be over, according to Motor1, which reports that, "During a media session surrounding the Super Taikyu series at Fuji Speedway, Subaru Executive Managing Director and Chief Technical Officer, Tetsuro Fujinuki, confirmed a new performance model for this year's Japan Mobility Show." Although no official details have been announced yet, we can expect to learn more come October when the 2025 Japan Mobility Show begins. For the time being, however, we're left wondering what exactly Subaru might have up its sleeve. When looking at Subaru's teaser image, it seems pretty clear that whatever Subaru is planning on unveiling in November, it'll be heavily based on the current VB-generation WRX, as made evident by its distinct forward fascia, C-shaped LED headlights, and, of course, its signature hood scoop. Notable differences that set this teaser apart from the standard WRX are its aggressive front bumper splitter, its widened wheel arches, and perhaps most curiously, the blurred rear end. What's most intriguing about the rear of the car's roof is the obvious tailgate hinges, which might suggest that a hatchback variant of the Subaru WRX STI might return after a long hiatus–something that many Subaru and hot hatch fans alike will be extremely excited about. Despite the hatchback hints, the image also seems to suggest a large spoiler could be present on the rear. Keep in mind that this is pure speculation, but it seems like the details on the rear of the vehicle in the image might suggest that both four-door sedan and five-door hatchback variants of the WRX STI could be made available. Only time will tell, but we remain extremely hopeful that the beloved WRX STI Hatchback makes a glorious return. Using generative text-to-image artificial intelligence and Adobe Photoshop, we imagine what a tarted-up, STI-branded variant of the VB-generation Subaru WRX could look like. Although the render pictured above depicts a two-door coupe body reminiscent of the iconic Subaru Impreza 22B STI, an actual WRX STI would likely retain all four of its doors, or perhaps gain a fifth door in hatchback guise. Despite its coupe appearance, the above render gives us a glimpse at possible styling alterations for the STI model, such as facelifted headlights for a more aggressive look, larger grilles for increased cooling airflow, wider wheel arches with contrast painted overfenders, and, of course, an extra aggressive rear spoiler for enhanced aerodynamics. Although not many details have been officially confirmed yet, we're eagerly awaiting more information to be revealed in October of this year. We'd love to see a hatchback return to Subaru's iconic WRX lineup, so hopefully the tailgate hinges on the teaser image turning out to be a clue and not just meaningless speculation. Regardless, we're glad to see Subaru working on something sporty and exciting rather than yet another crossover. Now, if only Mitsubishi would get the hint... Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc.
