Magnitude 7.5 earthquake strikes off east coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii has notified Japan's Meteorological Agency that a magnitude 7.5 earthquake has struck off the east coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.
The quake occurred at around 6:49 a.m. UTC on Sunday, or 3:49 p.m. Japan time.
The agency says there is a possibility of changes to tidal levels along the coast of Japan, but there is unlikely to be any damage.
A magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurred earlier in the same area at around 6:30 a.m. UTC on Sunday.
