Clemson catcher Jacob Jarrell named a strength & conditioning All-American
Clemson catcher Jacob Jarrell named a strength & conditioning All-American Clemson leads the pack with five first-round picks in this 2026 NFL Mock Draft — Clemson Wire (@Clemson_Wire) June 16, 2025 Clemson catcher Jacob Jarrell has been recognized as a strength & conditioning All-American by the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), a testament to both his physical development and leadership within the program. Jarrell becomes the sixth Clemson player since 2018 to earn the NSCA honor, joining an accomplished group that includes Ryley Gilliam (2018), Bryce Teodosio (2021), Geoffrey Gilbert (2022), Jackson Lindley (2023), and Blake Wright (2024). 'Jacob has consistently dedicated himself to his physical preparation since arriving at Clemson as a freshman three years ago,' said Rick Franzblau, Clemson's assistant athletic director for Olympic sports performance. 'He attacks every workout, warmup and sprint session with the same intensity and focus that he does as the starting catcher for the Tigers. 'Jacob is one of the strongest athletes on the team, demonstrated by his 500+ pound box squat and 500+ pound split deadlift. Jacob is one of few two-time captains in team history. His greatest contribution to the team has been the leadership that he has provided in the weight room and off the diamond. Whether it be firing up one of his teammates in the weight room or inviting one of the 'weight-gain guys' over for a steak dinner, he has exemplified the team credo of 'plant trees you will never see.'" Jarrell backed up his off-field presence with another productive year behind the plate in 2025. He finished the season with a team-high 15 home runs, batting .263 with 41 RBIs, 45 runs scored, a .515 slugging percentage, and a .387 on-base percentage across 59 games, including 57 starts. He was also the only player on the roster to record multiple multi-homer games this season. A two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll selection and member of the Buster Posey Award Watch List, Jarrell has put together a strong three-year career in a Clemson uniform. He enters the offseason with a career .255 average, 26 home runs, 15 doubles, 83 RBIs and 81 runs scored over 122 games, 110 of which he's started. There are times when you're watching a college baseball game and know that, regardless of who wins, the contest will come down the final pitch. That's what happened on Thursday night in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 ACC Baseball Tournament at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, when the Clemson Tigers and rival NC State Wolfpack went back and forth. When it was over, the No. 12 Tigers rallied past the 20th-ranked Wolfpack for a thrilling 7-6 victory. Cam Cannarella had four hits atop the lineup, Jacob Jarrell hit his team-leading 14th home run, and the Tigers advanced to the semifinal round of the tournament where they'll take on No. 1 seed Georgia Tech on Saturday. The eighth inning was when Clemson's bats had one of its best innings all season. The Tigers (43-15 overall), who trailed 5-4 entering the inning, totaled five hits in the eighth. They got run-scoring singles from Jarrell, TP Wentworth and Andrew Ciufo to take a 7-5 lead they would not relinquish. Lucas Mahlstedt, the Tigers' All-ACC reliever who is second in the nation with 24 saves, tossed four innings of relief to pick up the win. He struck out NC State (33-19 overall) first baseman Chris McHugh for the game's final out, capping a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Mahlstedt (3-0) got the win in relief of starter Drew Titsworth, who yielded three runs on five hits in five innings. Long reliever B.J. Bailey took over from Titsworth in the sixth but quickly left after allowing hits to all three batters he faced. Mahlstedt allowed a game-tying single to Alex Sosa but recovered to get a 6-4-3 double play, followed by a strikeout of Matt Ossenfort to end the sixth. Clemson threatened in the seventh but didn't score. With their eighth-inning explosion, the Tigers finished the night with 16 hits and outhit the Wolfpack, 16-12. Earlier in the evening, Clemson scored two runs on a pair of perfectly executed squeeze bunts by Ciufo and Jarren Purify to take a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning.
