Could the Red Sox make another trade with the Giants involving Jarren Duran?

The post Could the Red Sox make another trade with the Giants involving Jarren Duran? appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Boston Red Sox already made the biggest trade of the season when they moved on from Rafael Devers. The team they traded the third baseman/designated hitter to the San Francisco Giants. Clearly, the two are comfortable doing business together. ESPN lists the two best players on the trading block as Alex Bregman and Jarren Duran, both of whom play for the Red Sox. While it is far from a guarantee that either of them gets traded, the Giants actually would make sense to work with again in a trade involving Duran. Giants' trade proposal for Jarren Duran Red Sox receive: Carson Whisenhunt (Giants No. 2), Rayner Arias (Giants No. 7), Carson Ragsdale (Giants No. 21) Advertisement Giants receive: Jarren Duran Their trade for Devers proves that the Giants are all in. They play in a stacked National League West that includes the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, both of which are loaded with star talent. The Giants shouldn't stop making moves, even after adding their Dominican slugger. The Giants are currently 44-35. They are only narrowly ahead of San Diego in the standings, and Los Angeles is quickly pulling away. While the team's outfield of Heliot Ramos, Jung Hoo Lee, and Mike Yastrzemski has been solid, it hasn't been great, so they could use an upgrade. Duran broke onto the scene as one of the best outfielders in baseball last season. Duran played elite defensive en route to his first All-Star appearance last year. He also killed it with the bat, as he hit 21 home runs while maintaining a .285 batting average. His 48 doubles and 14 triples led the NL, too. His numbers are slightly down this year, but he has still already hit eight triples. Duran is a speed threat who can hit for both power and contact. He'd give the Giants a four-headed outfield monster and better their chances of winning this year's World Series. Plus, he obviously has familiarity with the recently traded for Devers. Advertisement It didn't take a huge prospect haul to acquire Devers due to his shaky relationship with the Red Sox. Even though Devers is the superior player to Duran, the Giants can afford to give up a few more high-quality minor leaguers from their farm system this go around if they were to deal with Boston again. Is Jarren Duran or Alex Bregman more likely to be moved? © Brian Fluharty-Imagn Images Neither Bregman nor Duran is all that likely to be moved. ESPN gives it just a 10% chance that the third baseman will be traded this year, whereas the outfielder has only a 25% chance of being moved. Bregman is unlikely to be traded because he signed a three-year, $120 million deal this past offseason. Not only does that contract carry a high average annual value, but Bregman could opt out of the deal at season's end, and the idea of him being a rental could scare teams off. Advertisement Duran, meanwhile, isn't headed to unrestricted free agency until 2029. The Red Sox may want to move him while he still has tons of value, as his breakout campaign last season could be looked at as a fluke if he doesn't pick it up soon. Even so, the Red Sox have no need to blow things up, so they'd be better off holding onto Duran. The team is just outside of the playoff picture, and a few buyers' moves could get them firmly in the hunt for a wild-card spot. Devers was traded not because Boston is looking to rebuild, but because his relationship with the Red Sox was fractured after they forced him to change positions. Don't expect either Bregman or Duran to be dealt before the trade deadline. Jarren Duran Issues Strong Message After Red Sox Trade Reports

Jarren Duran Issues Strong Message After Red Sox Trade Reports originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jarren Duran is in his fifth major-league season with the Boston Red Sox after making his debut in 2021. Advertisement The 28-year-old outfielder was drafted in the seventh round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of California State University, Long Beach and spent three seasons in the minors before his call-up to the major-league roster. Duran broke out in 2024, earning his first All-Star selection and finishing eighth in MVP voting. As a result, contenders around baseball, notably the San Diego Padres, coveted Boston's leadoff man for his blend of speed and emerging power. Duran is under team control for the next three seasons and will not become an unrestricted free agent until 2029. Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran (16)Eric Canha-Imagn Images Today, before the series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays, Duran addressed the possibility of being traded in a strong message. Advertisement 'I mean, they talked about me last year getting traded, too, to the Padres and stuff like that. But I don't really take any of that into account because I don't really have any say over it,' Duran said per MassLive's Christopher Smith. This season has been a letdown compared to last year's breakout. Through 81 games, Duran is batting just .254 with a .711 OPS, five homers and 20 stolen bases—and his on-base percentage has dipped to .307. Boston entered the year believing its revamped roster could challenge for an AL East crown after adding pitching depth and star third baseman Alex Bregman. Instead, inconsistency and injuries have left the club at 40–42, and former franchise superstar Rafael Devers was dealt to the San Francisco Giants after ongoing disputes with the front office. As the Red Sox push through to the All-Star break, Duran's ability to recapture his 2024 form could determine whether Boston shifts into a rebuild mindset. Red Sox Trade Idea Sends Jarren Duran to Giants for Insane Haul of Prospects

Red Sox Trade Idea Sends Jarren Duran to Giants for Insane Haul of Prospects originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Amid a five-game losing streak, the Boston Red Sox's playoff hopes have taken a hit. While there is still a month before the trade deadline, and their trajectory can change on a week-to-week basis, the focus is turning to what direction Boston will take. Are they going to go all-in on the current roster or continue to sell off valuable assets in hopes of building a brighter future? Advertisement The Red Sox already shipped superstar Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in a move that very well could go down as the biggest trade of the season. But what if the two teams connected again on another blockbuster? That is exactly what ClutchPoints' Baily Bassett proposes: Boston trade outfielder Jarren Duran to the Giants in exchange for three prospects: Carson Whisenhunt (Giants No. 2), Rayner Arias (Giants No. 7), and Carson Ragsdale (Giants No. 21). '[Duran's] numbers are slightly down this year, but he has still already hit eight triples. Duran is a speed threat who can hit for both power and contact,' wrote Barrett. 'He'd give the Giants a four-headed outfield monster and better their chances of winning this year's World Series. Plus, he obviously has familiarity with the recently traded for Devers.' Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora is seen before a game against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Gorski-Imagn Images While the Red Sox may be reluctant to strike another deal with San Francisco, considering the fallout from the Devers trade, the package in return is stellar. Advertisement Whisenhunt, 24, is San Francisco's top pitching prospect and possesses an excellent repertoire of off-speed pitches, including a 70 out of 80 graded change-up. The left-hander projects to make his MLB debut later this season, and with how inconsistent Boston's rotation has been, Whisenhunt could feasibly slot into the starting five instantly. Arias, 19, is still in rookie ball. But in a crowded left-handed lineup, he provides some intriguing right-handed potential. Meanwhile, Ragsdale is a six-foot-eight-inch major league-ready relief arm with a plus curveball. Trading Duran is going to sting no matter what, especially being the lone All-Star in the outfield. However, with chief baseball officer Craig Breslow willing to make franchise-altering changes, moving Duran to the highest bidder makes logical sense – especially if it opens up an everyday position for top prospect Roman Anthony. The Boston Red Sox showed they aren't afraid to risk some pushback from fans if they see an opportunity to improve the outlook for their team. That was plain when they traded franchise slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. In the immediate aftermath of that move, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said that there's a "real chance that at the end of the season we're looking back and we've won more games than we otherwise would've," per ESPN. And the latest news suggests Breslow could see a similar opportunity by trading away reigning All-Star outfielder Jarren Duran. "As the (San Diego) Padres face a daunting schedule and glaring holes at the bottom of their lineup, their list of trade targets again includes Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran," Dennis Lin reported for The Athletic. "Now, an underwhelming Red Sox team might consider Duran expendable." (Photo by) More Wang/Getty With Duran garnering interest from other teams, the Red Sox could be looking to sell high after his breakout season. But rather than working with the Padres to move him, Bailey Bassett of ClutchPoints suggested the Red Sox return to the negotiating table with the Giants. "Clearly, the two are comfortable doing business together," Bassett noted. "Duran is a speed threat who can hit for both power and contact. He'd give the Giants a four-headed outfield monster and better their chances of winning this year's World Series. Plus, he obviously has familiarity with the recently traded for Devers." While the Giants could use an upgrade in the outfield as they look to close the gap on the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Red Sox seem to have a surplus, with Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreau, Rob Refsnyder and Roman Anthony all competing for at-bats. And if the Red Sox opt to move Duran to the Giants to clear that logjam, Bassett projected that they could land prospects Carson Whisenhunt, Rayner Arias and Carson Ragsdale in return. That type of haul could be enough to bring the Red Sox back to the table with the Giants to replenish their farm system after several high-profile promotions, or to land some trade chips that get flipped into another deal for Boston. MLB Insiders Link Rex Sox All-Star Jarren Duran to Phillies

MLB Insiders Link Rex Sox All-Star Jarren Duran to Phillies originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Phillies' outfield problem is becoming less noticeable thanks to the resurgence of Brandon Marsh. However, left fielder Max Kepler still presents a sizable problem. The one-time MVP candidate is hitting just .211 with nine home runs. With Kepler slumping through his first (and most likely only) year in Philadelphia, two MLB insiders have speculated about replacing him with an All-Star from Boston. Advertisement In a recent article from ESPN, Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan listed the Phillies as a potential 'best fit' for Boston Red Sox leftfielder Jarren Duran. They made their case writing this about Duran: 'Duran had a huge breakout season in 2024, posting the seventh-best WAR in the majors at 6.7. He overperformed his underlying metrics, though -- i.e., had some lucky outcomes -- and those metrics have regressed a bit this year. Now he's underperforming them -- he has been unlucky -- so his true talent is somewhere south of that star-level 6.7 figure but better than the roughly 2 WAR (commensurate with a solid regular) he's on pace for this season.' Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson during the eighth inning against the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Streicher-Imagn Images Last season, Duran hit .285 with 21 home runs and 34 stolen bases, leading MLB in doubles and triples. Getting a player of that caliber would be an astounding grab for the Phillies. However, Duran has been on a slide, hitting .257/.309/.406 with five home runs on the year. His defense has also suffered, posting -5 outs above average, way down from the impressive 11 he posted last year. Advertisement Any team that trades for him would be interested in acquiring 2024 Duran, not the current version. However, it may not come to that at all. The chances of the Red Sox selling low on Duran with years of control left and the DH spot open (having traded Rafael Devers) are not good. McDaniel and Passan estimate there is a 25 percent chance of a Jarren Duran trade. Still, if the Red Sox are willing to sell, Duran's bat would offer an upgrade over Kepler's even in its current state.
