GCC Secretary-General Warns Israeli Sovereignty Bid Threatens Regional Stability, Violates UN Resolutions
RIYADH, July 24 (Bernama-SPA) -- Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi expressed strong condemnation of the Israeli occupation forces' Knesset proposal to impose Israeli sovereignty by force over the West Bank and the Jordan Valley, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported. Albudaiwi said that this proposal, intending to impose sovereignty by force, confirms the dangerous annexation policies of the Israeli occupation forces, which now threaten the security of the region and constitute a flagrant violation of international and UN resolutions. He added that such an irresponsible step will only escalate tensions in the region and the world, and increase the suffering of the Palestinian people, calling on the international community to take a clear and firm stance to halt any unilateral measures that would threaten the prospects for a comprehensive and just peace.

GCC passports departments chiefs hold meeting
Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi participated in the 39th Meeting of the Directors-General of Passports of the GCC countries, held on Wednesday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh. During the meeting, he reviewed the latest developments, including the Gulf visa project. The passport departments of the interior ministries of GCC countries, through a series of joint meetings, are making efforts to launch a unified tourist visa project in the near future, the General Secretariat said in a report. 'Everyone is working as one team to keep pace with technological developments and security requirements in a world characterised by rapid change,' Albudaiwi said.

GCC, Japan officials hold talks on trade, economy in Riyadh
RIYADH: The GCC's Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi and Japan's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Morino Yasunari held talks in Riyadh on Tuesday. During their meeting at the headquarters of the GCC's general secretariat, the two officials discussed ways to boost relations. According to the Saudi Press Agency, they discussed preparations for Albudaiwi's visit to Japan this week, a review of free trade agreement negotiations, and a follow-up on the joint action plan for the period 2024-2028. On Monday, the GCC and Japan launched the second round of negotiations for a free trade agreement, with talks to be held in Tokyo until July 4.

GCC praises Qatari, US efforts in Rwanda, DRC peace deal
LONDON: Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council, praised Qatar and the US for their mediation efforts that led to the signing of the peace agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Albudaiwi hoped the agreement would reduce tensions and contribute to security and stability, fostering regional prosperity and international peace. Since 2021, fighting between armed groups has intensified in the mineral-rich eastern DRC, which has vast reserves of cobalt, coltan, lithium, tin and gold. The peace agreement between the two countries raises hopes for an end to the fighting that has killed thousands and displaced hundreds of thousands of others, he said. Albudaiwi added that Qatar's role in driving the agreement shows a growing involvement of GCC countries in supporting peaceful solutions and promoting security and stability in various regions worldwide. The GCC is committed to diplomacy and dialogue to address crises and achieve sustainable development, he said.
