After forty years, three cancellations, and more drama than one article could contain, the cast and crew of the Amazon Prime soap opera Neighbours have wrapped production for what appears to be the last time. It's with a heavy heart that our incredible cast and crew wrap for the final time. As sad as this day may be, we can't wait for you to see the amazing storylines that are about to unfold over the coming six months. Together we have been, and always will be, the perfect blend 💔' When Amazon originally picked up the soap opera, it was a flagship program for the companies Freevee service. The platform was sunseted late last year with existing programs rolling into the Amazon Prime platform. It was announced earlier this year that Amazon would not be ordering additional episodes of Neighbours. Executive producer Jason Herbison spoke with TVTonight about the final day of filming, sharing, 'We have one crew going today. Neighbours is traditionally shot with two crews and the location crew start the week before studio, so now the final week of the show we just have the studio crew going. The location crew actually finished on Monday. It's a busy day in studio, basically, we're filming all the final scenes in studio and we're wrapping tonight.' The showrunner explained how there was a bittersweet feeling in the air as the series comes to a close, adding, 'There's a wrap party tomorrow night….We're having Christmas in July, as you can see so it's a bittersweet mood.' Herbison acknowledges that this is the end for the series, however, teases that there is hope for the future. 'We're all sad to be seeing the end of the show. But as I said before, you know, very grateful that we've had this this chapter in this time together, and a little bit of hope, who knows, for the future.' The showrunner encourages fans to stay tuned, because while the show may be ending, things are not slowing down on screen until the end, adding, 'We have a big five months of Neighbours still to air. We absolutely are not slowing down story-wise. Lots of big storylines, lots of new characters, lots of big story locomotives still to play out. So whilst it's the final day today on set, for our viewers, there's still five big months of the show to watch.' Neighbours has launched the careers of many future Hollywood stars including, Margot Robbie, Liam Hemsworth, Alan Dale, Chris Hemsworth, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Jessee Spencer, and Kylie Minogue. Fans took to the comment section on the farewell post on Instagram to share their own tributes to the show. One user said, "Since the day it started coming home from school in 1985 was always the highlight of my day I've always been a fan and this breaks my heart… but I wish all the crew and cast the best wishes for future endeavours. We will always be here silently waiting and praying for a come back 🥰." With a second user adding, "Huge love to all cast and crew. The last two years have been a welcome addition to the show and we will miss you all so much. Best of luck for the future." A third shared, "This is just devastating. Neighbours has seen its last day of filming on its two-year Prime Video revival, with producers saying there are "tantalising possibilities for a future chapter". The Australian soap will see its latest series finish in December after 40 years on TV, with the cast wrapping filming on Friday at Nunawading studios as producers remain hopeful for further episodes. Executive producer Jason Herbison said: "Neighbours is a special show and it's been a privilege to make the recent seasons for our loyal viewers around the world. "We have added 460 episodes to our legacy of over 9000 episodes, something we all feel proud of. "Once again, we will be resting the residents of Ramsay Street on a hopeful note, with some tantalising possibilities for a future chapter." The soap has followed the lives of those living and working in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough since 1985, and launched the careers of the likes of Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Margot Robbie. Stefan Dennis, who first appeared in the soap as Paul Robinson in 1985, said: "I never thought a single show would give me the greatest adventures of my career, spanning 40 years. "Without Neighbours I would not have met the people, been to the places and lived the experiences of a lifetime. Thank you all." Neighbours was dropped by the UK's Channel 5 in 2022 following failure to secure new funding, with a finale episode in July that year seeing an average audience of 2.5 million tune in, as a host of well-known characters returned to the show. His sentiments were also shared by Alan Fletcher and Jackie Woodburne, who have played beloved couple Karl and Susan Kennedy since 1994. Alan described the show as his 'happy place for over 30 years' while Jackie added that it is impossible to measure the gratitude she feels. Annie Jones, better known as Plain Jane Superbrain Harris, first filmed at the Nunawading Studios in 1986, shortly after it was revived for the first time on Channel 10. After several guest stints, she returned five years ago full-time. She claimed it has been a 'pleasure and delight to work with such a talented group of people' before adding she will miss being a part of the show. According to Metro, sets have already begun to be dismantled at the production base on the outskirts of Melbourne. The studio site, which was sold to property redevelopers several years ago but is on a long lease to programme-makers Fremantle Media, is hoped to be reused for other productions in the future. Following the news, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their sadness on the show leaving their TV screens once again. One fan wrote: 'Love this show been watching all of it from the beginning now on Amazon Prime I'm from Corona, California USA but I lived in Australia Brisbane Queensland for three years in the late 60s and I really am going to miss this show,'; 'To the cast & crew of Neighbours as you finish filming, thank you for what has been and for what is to come...'; 'Just so incredibly sad and unnecessary. #SAVENEIGHBOURS.'
