NBA rumors: Brutal Deandre Ayton Blazers revelations should give Lakers pause
The post NBA rumors: Brutal Deandre Ayton Blazers revelations should give Lakers pause appeared first on ClutchPoints. Since his release from the Portland Trail Blazers, DeAndre Ayton has received serious interest from the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency. While the move makes sense on paper, the apparent reason why Ayton is available in the first place should concern any team looking to sign him. Advertisement Following Ayton's release, details emerged suggesting the Blazers cut ties due to his lack of discipline and personality flaws rather than his on-court performances, according to The Athletic's Jason Quick. While he has been disappointing since landing in Portland, it was Ayton's reported 'tardiness' and 'tantrums' that did him in. 'See, the Blazers could live with Ayton missing shots or his man scoring on him,' Quick wrote. 'They could even live with him being limited by injuries to 55 and 40 games in his two seasons in Portland. But in the end, they couldn't live with his bad ways. The tardiness to team flights and practices, according to a team source. The skipping of rehabilitation appointments. Fans saw him slam chairs when he was taken out of games. And a team source said there were tantrums in the locker room when he was sidelined for poor effort.' The Blazers' release of Ayton was significant, considering he was the main piece they received from the blockbuster Damian Lillard trade in 2023. However, Portland seemingly prepared for the move a year ago when it selected Donovan Clingan in the 2024 NBA Draft. Since joining the team, Ayton has averaged 15.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game over the last two years. While solid, his numbers have declined from his final two seasons with the Phoenix Suns, during which he averaged 17.2 and 18.0 points per game, respectively. Advertisement Lakers' interest in DeAndre Ayton following Blazers release Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images Despite the flaws in his performances, the Los Angeles Lakers have still aggressively pursued Ayton in free agency. The Lakers have been on his tail since his release was announced, with a deal seemingly on the horizon. The Lakers have desperately needed a center for several years, but seem to have urgency to resolve the situation in the 2025 offseason. Los Angeles has also targeted Brook Lopez, Clint Capela and Al Horford, among others. Not only did the Lakers have a size issue in the 2024-2025 season, but they are also prepared to let Jaxson Hayes and Alex Len walk in free agency. Hayes and Len were the team's top two centers late in the year after trading Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic and failing to acquire Mark Williams. Lakers Trade Target Deandre Ayton Reportedly Threw Tantrums In Locker Room, Which Led To $25.5 Million Buyout
Lakers Trade Target Deandre Ayton Reportedly Threw Tantrums In Locker Room, Which Led To $25.5 Million Buyout originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Portland Trail Blazers center Deandre Ayton has garnered a lot of interest from teams in the free agency market, primarily being linked in trade rumors with the Los Angeles Lakers. While the big man is in the process of completing his buyout, The Athletic's Jason Quick revealed an interesting story regarding why the 26-year-old is in such a situation in the first place. He wrote: Advertisement "But in the end, they couldn't live with his bad ways. The tardiness to team flights and practices, according to a team source. The skipping of rehabilitation appointments. Fans saw him slam chairs when he was taken out of games. And a team source said there were tantrums in the locker room when he was sidelined for poor effort." Ayton's place with the Trail Blazers seemed fairly solid. After a great start to his career with the Phoenix Suns, the center seemed to set out on his own. Unfortunately, his time in Portland wasn't as fruitful as the team repeatedly ended seasons in the lower rung of the West. Ayton's regular-season averages of 14.4 points and 10.2 rebounds are quite impressive, especially if you're the Lakers and have a dire need for a starting center. With Clint Capela headed to the Rockets and Brook Lopez signing with the cross-city rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Purple and Gold have effectively whiffed on most of their priority big man targets in free agency. In light of this, Ayton's numbers and performance, along with his connection with Doncic's agent, Bill Duffy, make him a favorable target. Advertisement But Quick's article reveals a lot of interesting aspects about the center that could become a matter of concern for the Purple and Gold as they continue to pursue him. Ayton's poor professionalism and work ethic could be largely detrimental to their title aspirations if they are to sign him. His temper tantrums may also not be conducive to building camaraderie within the locker room, a critical aspect of being part of a team, especially given how long the regular season is. The Lakers are in a very fickle situation to start off the free agency period. With immense pressure to form a title-contending team, courtesy of LeBron James, the Purple and Gold are yet to make significant moves to inspire such confidence. While they are still more than likely to proceed with signing Ayton, if the opportunity presents itself, the team will still be in need of backup centers to fill out their frontcourt. Advertisement With the addition of Jake LaRavia from the Sacramento Kings being the only move in free agency thus far, the Lakers are in a tough spot. But with a lot of offseason left to go, the front office still has some flexibility with proceeding with the roster construction process. Skydiving plane crash leads to multiple injuries in Tennessee
TULLAHOMA, Tenn. (AP) — Several people were injured Sunday after a skydiving plane crashed outside a small Tennessee airport, authorities said. The Federal Aviation Administration said a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter plane carrying 20 people crashed shortly after departing Tullahoma Regional Airport. The sky diving plane experienced an unknown problem after takeoff and crashed into trees, Tullahoma City Administrator Jason Quick said at a briefing on Sunday evening. Three people were flown by medical helicopter to a Nashville area hospital and four others were taken to a local hospital, Quick said. Medics treated others with minor injuries on the scene. The FAA was in Tullahoma Sunday talking with people who were on board and others who may have been witnesses to the crash, Quick said. The National Transportation Safety Board has advised that it will take over the investigation, he said.
