Moment phone thieves are arrested with £100,000 haul of Apple watches and 100 iPhones plus a machete just minutes after they raided West End store

Around 100 iPhones with an estimated value of £100,000 were found in the back of a car within minutes of a burglary at an O2 store in London. The stolen goods were located in a car stopped by officers, where a number of Apple watches and a large machete were also found. Three men wearing balaclavas reportedly entered the store in the West End on Thursday before the raid took place. Police bodycam footage shows one man getting arrested on a nearby street as he his told he 'matches a description of males who have gone into an O2 store and stolen some phones'. A stash of iPhones can then be seen in the footwell of the back seat of a car, which was pulled over by police on a nearby street. An officer continues to pull out several iPhones from a bag and throws them onto the growing pile. The footage also shows a large black machete being recovered from the car. Officers were called at 7.17pm and arrested three men aged 25, 24 and 18, on suspicion of aggravated burglary and taken into custody, where they remain. Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, responsible for policing in Camden, said: 'We know people are concerned about crime in the West End and these arrests are just one example of the hard work officers are doing every day to proactively target offenders and make the area safer. 'We're working closely with businesses to focus on tackling the crimes that cause a misery to the lives of their staff, as well as residents and visitors. 'Across London we're arresting 1,000s more criminals each month, neighbourhood crime is down 19 per cent and we've solved 163 per cent more shoplifting cases this year. 'Through precise community crimefighting we will continue to focus our resources and bear down on prolific offenders and criminal gangs.' Last month, 10 men were arrested as part of a separate investigation into robberies at phone shops in London and across the south of England. Detectives identified an organised crime group believed to be behind 13 robberies between February and early June.

Beehive and Direct Debit System partnership fuels $1 Bbillion in digital SME funding - Middle East Business News and Information

Financing milestone marks one year of collaboration between the two platforms Direct Debit System (DDS), the fintech platform for automated collections, licensed by UAE Central Bank, is celebrating its one-year partnership with Beehive, the first peer-to-peer lending platform in the MENA region to be regulated by the DFSA. The milestone comes as Beehive surpasses USD 1 billion in SME financing across the GCC. The year of collaboration has enabled Beehive to execute collections and repayments in a paperless, secure, and instantly reconcilable environment, by replacing legacy cheque-based processes with DDS's fully digital direct debit solution, powered by UAE PASS. 'Reaching the USD 1 billion milestone is a testament to Beehive's commitment to fueling SME growth in this country,' said Vivek Harikrishnan, Head of Product & COO at DDS. 'Our direct debit integration eliminates the delays and risks inherent in manual cheque handling, meaning no more lost cheques, no more uncertainty over collection timing or signature mismatch. Beehive's finance team now enjoys end-to-end visibility, IBAN validation, the ability to postpone and retry collections digitally, automated notifications, and same-day reconciliation, so they can focus entirely on supporting SMEs in the UAE to scale their business.' Since integrating DDS's API-driven direct debit technology, Beehive has achieved a number of milestones to streamline processes. The platform has gone paperless, meaning the entire loan disbursement and repayment cycles are now handled electronically, cutting out physical paperwork and courier delays. Operational hassle has been reduced with automated mandate management and UAE PASS authorization, removing the need for manual signature hunting, drastically lowering back-office overheads. The reconciliation process has also been accelerated, with real-time transaction reporting and instant settlement data shortening reconciliation times from days to hours. Reflecting on the collaboration, Jason Stewart, Head of Partnerships and Products at Beehive, stated, 'At Beehive, we've always believed that SME finance should be fast, secure, and frictionless. Our partnership with DDS has allowed us to digitize and streamline a core part of that journey, collections and repayments.' ———- About Direct Debit System Direct Debit System is the UAE's first Central Bank–licensed platform offering digital, paperless direct-debit collections from bank accounts and credit cards. The solution automates recurring payments for school fees, rents, memberships, loan repayments and more—replacing cheques, unnecessary credit card charges and manual follow-ups with secure and bank -bank direct settlement process that simplify cash-flow management for businesses of all sizes. Release Date: January 21, 2025 For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript. Ilika PLC (ILIKF) has a strong patent portfolio with 62 patents, providing robust protection for its intellectual property. The company has a diversified market approach, targeting both medical devices and automotive sectors, which reduces execution risk. Ilika PLC (ILIKF) has a licensing and royalty agreement with Cirtec, validating its Stereax technology and enabling scale-up for production. The company has completed the commissioning of equipment at Cirtec Medical, paving the way for product release and revenue generation. Ilika PLC (ILIKF) has received positive feedback on its Goliath batteries, which have been tested by automotive customers and show promising safety and performance benefits. The company is still in the early stages of revenue generation, with initial revenues expected to be low as products undergo lab-based trials. Ilika PLC (ILIKF) faces challenges in providing forward guidance due to the nascent stage of its production and commercialization efforts. The company is reliant on grant funding, which has seen a hiatus, impacting its financial planning and cash flow management. There is uncertainty around the timeline for Goliath battery commercialization, as it depends on licensing discussions over the next 18 to 24 months. Ilika PLC (ILIKF) has experienced a decrease in turnover, primarily due to the winding down of major grant funding projects. Q: In which financial year do you anticipate starting potentially profitable production of a first commercial battery product? A: Stereax production is expected to commence in 2025, with batteries being dispatched to customers by mid-year. Goliath batteries will continue development, with timelines dictated by licensing discussions over the next 18 to 24 months. - Jason Stewart, CFO Q: Will your miniaturized battery also have a use in robotics? A: Stereax miniature batteries could power sensors in robotics, especially where hardwiring is difficult. However, they are too small for primary power supply in most robotics, where Goliath batteries could be more suitable. - Graeme Purdy, CEO Q: Would licensing to a Chinese manufacturer ever be an option? A: There is no legal barrier to licensing a Chinese manufacturer, but we would need assurance of an attractive return on investment and IP protection. - Graeme Purdy, CEO Q: Why is nonrecurring engineering revenue larger than royalty revenue in a company that seeks to replicate Arm's IP business model? A: In the early years, Arm also relied more on nonrecurring engineering and license fees. As we are at the beginning of our licensing journey, NRE is an important revenue component. - Graeme Purdy, CEO Q: What chemical do Ilika batteries use? A: Stereax batteries use an LCO cathode with a silicon anode, while Goliath batteries use NMC cathodes with silicon anodes. The oxide electrolytes are the secret sauce for both, chosen for ionic conductivity and chemical compatibility. - Graeme Purdy, CEO For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript.
