Steelers' chances of trading for Terry McLaurin or Jauan Jennings are looking bleak
If you were a Pittsburgh Steelers fan hoping to land either Terry McLaurin or Jauan Jennings via trade, you might want to forget about it. Both McLaurin and Jennings are seeking new contracts from the Washington Commanders and San Francisco 49ers, respectively, according to reports. The idea is that if they don't get it, they could hold out and possibly get traded. In fact, Jennings has requested to be traded if he doesn't get a new deal. The problem with those trade scenarios is that both teams desperately need their wideouts, which makes it far more likely that neither one will be traded. When it comes to the 49ers, two of their top wide receivers, Ricky Pearsall and Brandon Aiyuk, are both starting training camp on the PUP list. Aiyuk is recovering from a torn ACL that ended his 2024 season early, and Pearsall is working his way back from a hamstring injury but was expected to be ready for training camp, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. So much for that. When it comes to McLaurin, Washington has zero interest in trading him, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on SportsCenter on Saturday (h/t Bleacher Report). The veteran wideout has also stated he doesn't want to be traded. While adding either one would offer a significant boost to the Steelers' shaky wide receiving corps. that doesn't have much behind DK Metcalf, it remains unlikely Pittsburgh will be able to acquire either one. Jennings was the Niners' most productive wide receiver in 2024 with 975 yards and is even more important to Brock Purdy and San Fran's offense given the uncertainty surrounding both Pearsall and Aiyuk. Because of that, On SI's Grant Cohn believes the Niners will ultimately give Jennings a pay raise to appease him. "He probably will get a modest pay raise just before the first padded practice of training camp," Cohn said. "Because the 49ers can't afford to trade him until they know Brandon Aiyuk has made a full recovery. And that process could take a year or two.' In Washington, the Commanders need as many weapons as possible to aid budding superstar quarterback Jayden Daniels, who is looking to get Washington over the hump to a Super Bowl following an improbable playoff run in 2024. McLaurin was Daniels' top target in 2024 and the Commanders star has cemented himself as one of the more reliable receivers in the NFL after five-straight 1,000-yard campaigns and four straight seasons without having missed a single game. Ahead of such an important season, we expect the Commanders will cave to their best wide receiver at some point, much like the Niners are likely to do with Jennings. If the Steelers are indeed looking to add another wide receiver (they should be), they're going to have to look elsewhere for help. 49ers place receivers Ricky Pearsall and Brandon Aiyuk on Active/PUP list before training camp begins
The San Francisco 49ers will begin training camp with two of their top receivers on the sideline. The team announced on Friday that Ricky Pearsall and Brandon Aiyuk have been placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list. Pearsall, 24, suffered a hamstring injury during OTAs in May that the 49ers defined as "minor." He missed the remainder of OTAs and minicamp, but the expectation was that he would be ready for training camp. Aiyuk going on the PUP list is not a surprise while he recovers from a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee sustained during Week 7's defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs. Last season, Pearsall caught 31 passes for 400 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games (three starts). He was expected to take on a larger role in the offense with Deebo Samuel traded to the Washington Commanders and Aiyuk working his way back. The primary beneficiary of Pearsall's injury may be Jauan Jennings, the fifth-year receiver who's seeking a new contract from the 49ers. If Jennings doesn't get a new deal, he wants to be traded. With their receiver corps healthy, San Francisco may have been in a decent position against that ultimatum. But with Pearsall and Aiyuk out, Jennings has some strong leverage. Jennings was the 49ers' second-leading receiver last season with 77 catches for 975 yards and six touchdowns. He is in the final year of his contract, set to make $7.5 million, according to Over The Cap. Players on the Active/PUP list can be activated during training camp. But it's an indication that they won't be ready to go as drills and workouts begin. Those who remain injured and are transferred to the Reserve/PUP list when rosters are trimmed to 53 players must sit out for a minimum of four games when the regular season begins.

Steelers receive bad news on potential Jauan Jennings trade
The Jauan Jennings to Pittsburgh hype train didn't make it very far — as ESPN's Adam Schefter's newest report has all but derailed any hope Steelers fans had about a potential trade. According to Schefter, while the 49ers have received several calls on a potential trade for Jennings, San Francisco isn't looking to move the fifth-year wide receiver. "Several teams have already inquired about Jauan Jennings availability, but the 49ers said they have no desire in trading the wide receiver," Schefter said, via NFL Live on ESPN. Schefter reported a few days ago that Jennings was seeking a new contract or a trade — sparking rumors of a potential move to the receiver-needy Pittsburgh offense. The Steelers are no strangers to San Francisco slamming the door shut on wide receiver trade talks — as evident by Pittsburgh's failed pursuit of 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk last summer. With available wideouts dwindling, the Steelers need to make a decision fast regarding the future of WR2 on offense — but signs continue to point to in-house receiver Calvin Austin taking the reins in 2025.
