FC Goa settle for Javier Siverio as new striking option
Javier Siverio scored seven goals in 26 appearances in the ISL for Jamshedpur FC last season Panaji: FC Goa have identified Spanish striker Javier Siverio as their fourth foreign player for the season and are expected to complete the signing later this week. Among the six foreign players, only Dejan Drazic has an existing contract for next season. Having retained Borja Herrera and Iker Guarrotxena from last season's campaign, Goa will now add Siverio to the list. Two other new foreign players are expected to be signed, as replacements for captain Odei Onainida, who will return to Spain, and defensive midfielder Carl McHugh, whose two-year contract ended last month. 'Siverio may seem like an underwhelming signing, given that Goa have brought in tried and tested strikers in the past, but his (four-year) experience in Indian football cannot be discounted,' a senior official told TOI. 'He is also a team man, someone who will add to the team's strengths. It's important to have a strong and united dressing room, since only four of the six foreign players are allowed to take the field.' Siverio scored seven goals in 26 appearances for Jamshedpur FC last season. His India sojourn started with Hyderabad in 2021, where he was handpicked by coach Manolo Marquez after their time with Las Palmas B in 2016-17. The Spanish striker won the ISL trophy with Hyderabad, before moving to East Bengal for a short stint, winning the Super Cup, and then Jamshedpur. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Pieces of Clothing Older Women should Avoid Learn More Undo Siverio will be a direct replacement for Armando Sadiku, who mutually parted ways with Goa after being knocked out of the Indian Super League (ISL). The Albanian striker took the league by storm with a fiery start, netting eight goals in his first seven consecutive games, the best start for any Goa player since inception. However, with playing time restricted, Sadiku struggled to find the back of the net in the latter part of the season, scoring only two goals in his next 17 matches. The Albanian striker started just six of his last 15 matches in the ISL, with coach Manolo opting for Guarrotxena. Goa are now preparing for the Preliminary Round of the 2025–26 AFC Champions League Two clash against Oman's Al Seeb FC on August 13. The winner of the single-leg clash at Fatorda will qualify for AFC Champions League Two, the second-tier club competition in Asian football, while a loss for the hosts will see them dropped into the AFC Challenge League, a rung below. Goa qualified for the continental championships after winning the Super Cup. This will be their second appearance on the Asian stage after the debut at the AFC Champions League in 2021. Winners of the AFC Cup in 2022, Al Seeb are the big guns of Oman football, having won the Oman Professional League four times in the last six years.

Jamshedpur FC, Chennaiyin Fc & Kerala Blasters FC confirm new departures
Jamshedpur, July 4 (UNI) Jamshedpur FC have officially announced the departure of Spanish striker Javier Siverio. The 27-year-old initially joined the Men of Steel on loan in January 2024, shortly after lifting the Kalinga Super Cup with East Bengal FC. His move was made permanent ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. After a quiet spell at East Bengal FC, Siverio found his rhythm again at Jamshedpur FC, netting three goals in eight league appearances in his initial half-season. He continued that form into the next season, scoring seven goals in 26 appearances while forming a solid strike partnership with Jordan Murray. His contributions helped Jamshedpur FC reach the semi-finals of the ISL 2024-25. Siverio also played a key role in their Kalinga Super Cup 2025 run, where they finished as runners-up after a defeat to FC Goa in the final. Chennaiyin FC have confirmed that forward Kiyan Nassiri will be leaving the club. Nassiri joined from Mohun Bagan Super Giant last season after three years in Kolkata but was unable to make the desired impact with the Marina Machans. He struggled for game time at his new club, managing only 500 minutes across 15 ISL appearances, with one assist to his name, which came in their 3-0 away win against East Bengal FC. Another ISL side, Kerala Blasters FC, have confirmed the departure of midfielder Saurav Mandal. He had joined the club on a three-year deal in 2022 from Churchill Brothers. He made just 21 ISL appearances in three seasons, with all three of his assists coming in the first two campaigns. The midfielder did not play a single minute in the league last season and was loaned out to I-League side Gokulam Kerala FC during the winter transfer window. UNI BM

Jamshedpur FC march into Kalinga Super Cup quarter-finals
Bhubaneswar, Apr 25 (UNI) Jamshedpur FC continued their strong run of form with a commanding 2-0 win over Hyderabad FC in their Round of 16 encounter of the 2025 Kalinga Super Cup, held at the Kalinga Stadium here. Goals from Javier Siverio (39' p) and Stephen Eze (64') ensured a comfortable passage for the Men of Steel on Thursday night, who will now face NorthEast United in the quarter-finals. Having finished fifth in the Indian Super League (ISL) table and narrowly missing out on the final after a semi-final loss to Mohun Bagan SG, Jamshedpur entered the tournament with high expectations and looked the more composed and purposeful side throughout the match. In contrast, Hyderabad FC, who endured a torrid ISL campaign and finishing 12th, came into the game as clear underdogs. The game began on a quiet note, with both sides tentative in the opening exchanges. Hyderabad were content to sit deep, while Jamshedpur tried to establish control. As the minutes ticked by, the trio of Jordan Murray, Javier Hernandez, and Javier Siverio began to combine effectively, steadily putting pressure on the Hyderabad backline. Despite enjoying the lion's share of possession, Jamshedpur initially struggled to create clear openings, with Hyderabad defending in numbers and closing down space effectively. However, the deadlock was finally broken in the 39th minute following a well-constructed move. Eze sent a pinpoint ball into the box for Ashutosh Mehta, who made a surging run down the right. As Mehta attempted to control the ball, he was brought down by Manoj Mohammad, prompting the referee to award a penalty. Siverio stepped up and calmly slotted the ball past Arshdeep Singh, sending the Hyderabad keeper the wrong way to give Jamshedpur a deserved lead heading into the break. Just before half-time, Jamshedpur nearly added a second from a free-kick, but Hyderabad's defenders held firm with some brave last-ditch defending. Hyderabad made a few changes in the second half in an attempt to wrest back control, but the momentum remained firmly with Jamshedpur. The Men of Steel continued to control the midfield and showed great discipline in defence, rarely allowing Hyderabad a chance to get into dangerous areas. The result was sealed in the 64th minute when Jordan Murray, who had been a constant menace, charged into the box and laid the ball off for Stephen Eze. The towering defender made no mistake from close range, tapping home to double Jamshedpur's lead. From then on, it was smooth sailing for Jamshedpur, who managed the game effectively and kept Hyderabad at bay with relative ease. Hyderabad's attempts to create a late spark were snuffed out by a well-organised Jamshedpur defence, and the match ended in a comfortable 2-0 win for Khalid Jamil's men. Javier Hernandez was presented the Kalinga Player of the Match award by Asish Kumar Rout, Officer on Special Duty, Sports and Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha. UNI BM
