Coimbatore Islamic Federation alleges NIA framed individuals in car blast case

The Coimbatore District Federation of All Jamaaths and allied Islamic organisations have condemned the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for arresting four individuals, alleging that they have been framed in connection with the Tamil Nadu ISIS radicalisation and recruitment case, an offshoot of the 2022 Coimbatore car blast. The federation alleged that the recent arrests made on June 19, 2025 were politically motivated and based on false charges. The four men, Ahmed Ali, Jawahar Sathik, Raja Abdullah alias 'Mac' Raja, and Sheik Dawood, were accused by the NIA of being radicalised by Jameel Basha, founder of Madras Arabic College, and of promoting extremist ideologies under the guise of Arabic instruction. Rejecting these claims, the federation accused the NIA of defaming Arabic colleges and madrasas and misusing investigative powers to intimidate the Muslim community. On Tuesday, Sultan Amir, a coordinator of the federation, told reporters the agency had pressured individuals to turn approvers and deliberately delayed bail proceedings. He alleged that the NIA was functioning in line with the interests of the BJP and that the recent arrests were part of a broader effort to stamp the Muslim community as hubs of terrorism and to target Arabic colleges operating across Tamil Nadu. The federation urged the Tamil Nadu government and secular political parties to break their silence and demand accountability. It also announced legal support for those arrested and efforts to raise public awareness about the issue.

NIA arrests four more for links with IS in 2022 Coimbatore car blast case

CHENNAI/COIMBATORE: In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the 2022 car blast case in Coimbatore, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested four more accused on Wednesday, for recruitment to the banned terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS). This takes the total arrests in the case across the state to eight. The arrested have been identified as Ahmed Ali, Jawahar Sathik, Raja Abdullah alias MAC Raja and Sheik Dawood. They had been allegedly radicalised by Jameel Basha, founder of Madras Arabic College who, along with his associates, were involved in recruiting youth and subtly infusing Salafi-Jihadi ideology, under the guise of imparting Arabic classes in the state, the NIA said. The arrests followed an investigation into the car explosion on October 23, 2022 near Sangameswarar Temple. Jameesha Mubin, who died in the blast, was found to be an IS sympathiser. NIA had earlier arrested Basha and his associates Irshath, Syed Abdur Rahman and Mohammed Hussain who were using classrooms and social media for their radicalisation activities, NIA said.

NIA arrests four more in Tamil Nadu ISIS radicalisation, recruitment case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested four more persons in the Tamil Nadu ISIS radicalisation and recruitment case involving Coimbatore-based Kovai Arabic College. With this, NIA has made eight arrests in the case, which is an off-shoot of the Coimbatore car bomb blast case. The arrested have been identified as Ahmed Ali of Thirumarai Nagar at Podanur, Jawahar Sathik of Pullukkadu housing unit near Ukkadam, Raja Abdullah alias 'Mac' Raja, and Sheik Dawood. According to the NIA, the four men had been radicalised by Jameel Basha, the founder of Madras Arabic College, who, along with his associates, was involved in recruiting gullible youth and subtly infusing Salafi -Jihadi ideology into them, in the guise of imparting Arabic language classes in Tamil Nadu. NIA had earlier arrested and charge-sheeted Basha, his associates Irshath, Syed Abdur Rahman and Mohammed Hussain, who had been using the classrooms and social platforms to carry out their anti-national radicalisation and recruitment activities, the agency stated in a release. NIA investigations revealed that the accused had promoted Khilafat ideology and martyrdom through jihad, advocating violence and armed struggle to establish an Islamic state, after removing the democratically-elected government, it stated. According to the agency, the radicalisation and recruitment activities had led to the Coimbatore car bomb blast in October 2022, in which the suicide bomber Jamesha Mubeen carried out a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack in front of Sangameswarar temple in Coimbatore. The agency added that it was continuing with its investigation in the Tamil Nadu ISIS radicalisation and recruitment case as part of its efforts to check radical terror activities against the nation.
