Ex-NFL star Jay Cutler slammed for 'blood-soaked' hunting trip to Africa

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler has been slammed by PETA in response to his hunting trip in South Africa. The ex-Bears passer has been proudly sharing updates from his trip to social media, as he's posed with dead animals such as a Sable Antelope. And the animal rights organization PETA took Cutler to task in a recent post as they branded Cutler a 'coward.' 'Former NFL quarterback, now full-time coward, Jay Cutler, traded his jersey for a rifle and went on a blood-soaked ego trip to Africa,' the organization wrote on Instagram. 'These animals had families, lives, and a right to live freely until Cutler decided they'd look better as trophies. This isn't a 'sport,' this is shameful.' In the comments of another post, in which Cutler posed with a dead animal in the wilderness, PETA chastised Cutler once again. View this post on Instagram A post shared by PETA (@peta) 'How grotesquely cruel and weak,' they wrote. 'If you're desperate to feel powerful again, lift some weights. Don't terrorize and murder animals peacefully living in their own homes.' PETA were not the only ones outraged at Cutler's hunting, as several fans criticized his post posing with a Sable Antelope. 'Wow, Jay. You killed a wild animal in a place it's rarely hunted and it had zero idea you were a threat. Suppeeerrrr impressive buddy,' one wrote. 'I went to Africa on a safari and saw the most incredible wildlife and never once thought about murdering them,' said a third. 'What a cruel 'hobby' Jay. Shame on you for killing this beautiful animal. It breaks my heart,' wrote a fourth.' Cutler was best known for his time in Chicago, where he holds the franchise record for touchdowns and passing yards. In eight seasons there, he accrued a 51-51 record and made the NFC Championship Game in the 2010 season. He began his NFL career with the Denver Broncos after being drafted eleventh overall by the team and played in the Mile High City for three seasons before being traded to the Bears. The ex-Vanderbilt star also played one season with the Miami Dolphins in 2017 before retiring from the sport.

Kristin Cavallari reveals what type of man she'd like to date as ex Jay Cutler comes under fire for 'cruel' act

Kristin Cavallari described the type of man she'd like to date next on the latest episode of her Let's Be Honest podcast. On Tuesday's installment the 38-year-old former MTV personality chatted all things dating with matchmaker Patti Stanger. The women were discussing NFL players when Cavallari suddenly had the idea: 'You know what would be great is like, a coach.' Kristin — whose former NFL star ex-husband Jay Cutler just came under fire — said she's 'too old for athletes now.' She then asked rhetorically: 'Where are the hot coaches?' 'Some of them are hot,' she gushed. 'You'll see a photo and you're like, excuse me, who is that man?' Patti agreed, 'They're always in their 40s and really sexy, and they have scruff and nice hair.' Weighing the downside, Kristin added, 'The problem is they work a lot.' Stanger, who used to host the Bravo reality show Millionaire Matchmaker, suggested Kristin reach out to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce to introduce her to his single colleagues. The blonde bombshell mentioned that she's 'seen a couple coaches' on the exclusive dating app Raya, adding, 'Maybe I should start scrolling again, actually.' Cavallari's love life has played out publicly since she was a teen starring on MTV's hit show Laguna Beach, about the lives of high school students in Southern California. She was initially linked to classmate Stephen Colletti, and later went on to have high-profile romances with Brody Jenner, Justin Bobby, and Morgan Wallen, as well as other lesser known flings. Last year she dated TikTok star Mark Estes for seven months, making headlines for their 13-year age gap. And the Uncommon James founder was married to ex-husband Jay from 2013 until she filed for divorce in 2020. It was finalized in 2022. They share sons Camden, 12, Jaxon, 11, and daughter Saylor, nine. Cutler drew fierce criticism online this week after he posed alongside a wild animal he killed on a hunting trip in South Africa. The retired athlete, who was arrested for driving under the influence and gun possession following a car crash last year, headed to the Eastern Cape city of Tyityaba to go hunting with a group of friends last week. On Sunday night the ex-Chicago Bears star, 42, sparked fury when he shared a photo on Instagram of a Sable Antelope he shot dead while out in the wilderness. 'Kicked off the Africa hunt with a beauty. Sable down,' he wrote as the caption. A number of his followers were outraged by the sight of him smiling alongside the murdered animal, with one replying in the comments: 'This is nothing to brag about.' Another put: 'Wow, Jay. You killed a wild animal in a place it's rarely hunted and it had zero idea you were a threat. Suppeeerrrr impressive buddy.' 'I went to Africa on a safari and saw the most incredible wildlife and never once thought about murdering them,' said a third. 'What a cruel 'hobby' Jay. Shame on you for killing this beautiful animal. It breaks my heart,' wrote a fourth. While one user simply asked: 'Why is this necessary'.

Ex-NFL QB Jay Cutler sparks outrage during South Africa hunting trip

Ex-NFL star Jay Cutler sparked outrage after posting photos on Instagram of an endangered animal that he'd killed. The photos show a smiling Cutler crouching over a dead giant sable antelope — a massive hoofed mammal known for its large, curved horns. 'Kicked off the Africa hunt with a beauty. Sable down,' the first post reads. Another post included a video montage of the hunt and Cutler shooting the animal. Cutler uploaded more pictures of a seemingly dead antelope on Monday with the caption 'Another great day.' While some commenters congratulated Cutler, and noted the meat from the animals tends to be donated to locals, the trophy hunting got some criticism too. 'Wow, Jay you killed a wild animal in a place it's rarely hunted and it had zero idea you were a threat,' one Instagram user commented on the first post. 'Super impressive.' 'I went to Africa on a safari and saw the most incredible wildlife and never once thought about murdering them,' another wrote. The giant sable antelope, which is considered critically endangered and nearly extinct, was considered 'rare and impressive animal' in its native Angola, according to the Carnegie Museum of Natural history. 'Never numerous, today the Giant Sable is critically endangered, threatened by habitat loss, civil war, and poachers. Active conservation efforts continue, but population estimates indicate there are less than a hundred mature individuals,' the museum's website reads. However, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources' Red List, which tracks species, classifies the giant sable antelope as 'stable' overall. While Cutler's hunting appears perfectly legal, he's run into trouble in the past. He was arrested for DUI and gun possession in Tennessee last October. Cutler, 42, played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins.
