Elite Young Quarterback Jayce Johnson Heavily Considering Texas A&M football for Far Future NCAA Career
Elite Young Quarterback Jayce Johnson Heavily Considering Texas A&M football for Far Future NCAA Career originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's never certain where recruits will land, even after giving verbal commitments. However, it doesn't hurt to be a top five consideration for a class' No. 2 overall quarterback. Advertisement Right now, Texas A&M football has a chance to take its class of 2026 recent recruitment success and start plucking rising juniors out of the masses. The Aggies already have tight end George Lamons Jr. committed from the class of 2027, and an elite quarterback might be next. Texas A&M football head coach Mike Lysaker/Imagn Images. Jayce Johnson has already received 29 offers in his inbox. The four-star recruit is a Valdosta, Ga. native that's ranked No. 32 overall from his class. He's also the second highest rated quarterback and fourth most rated recruit from Georgia. With a slew of schools to choose from (and likely more coming in the future) and no deadline pressuring Johnson, an Aug. 3 announcement date for his commitment may seem a bit premature. Advertisement From now until recruits start signing, any school can manage a flip. Regardless of which team is announced on that Sunday, it will be necessary to try and buckle Johnson in as coaches continue to apply pressure. 247Sports' Cooper Petagna wrote in Johnson's scouting report: "Imposing frame for a prospect who is still 15 years of age. Physically advanced for his age . . . Displays above average athleticism avoiding and escaping pressure in the pocket . . . adequate mobility as a runner. Flashes excellent arm strength with a tight, abbreviated motion, showing the ability to get the ball out quickly. Flashes some touch on his deep ball but will need to continue to learn how to play with touch and change velocity . . . Shows a natural gamer demeanor, along with the ability to play within the structure of the offense . . . Still needs some technical and athletic development, but one of the most physically talented QB prospects in the class at this early stage." Being in the top five consideration now, though, is always a good feeling. After his decision, it'll be likely that the remaining four schools have a higher chance to flip Johnson's decision later on. Texas A&M is in that position one way or another. Advertisement Johnson's other four schools of his top five finalists are Florida State, Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Tennessee. At the time, it's very uncertain if the rising junior is leaning one way or another. With the thrilling trajectory of head coach Mike Elko's current recruitment, an early commitment can determine a bright future for his class of 2027. Tennessee Gets News From Highly Touted Quarterback on Tuesday
Tennessee Gets News From Highly Touted Quarterback on Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jayce Johnson, the No. 2 quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class, released his top five schools list on Tuesday, and Tennessee Volunteers made the cut. Advertisement 'Tennessee is a priority for me and my family, and they are most definitely making me feel like a priority," Johnson told Volquest. Besides the Volunteers, the four-star quarterback narrowed his selections to the Texas A&M Aggies, Mississippi State Bulldogs, South Carolina Gamecocks and Florida State Seminoles, according to On3's Hayes Fawcett. "Elite 2027 QB Jayce Johnson is down to 5 schools and will announce his commitment on August 3," wrote Fawcett on X. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound signal-caller will make his final decision during the first week of August. The 247Sports Composite rankings also have Johnson, from Valdosta, GA, placed as the No. 2 quarterback in the class. The 247Sports Composite rankings placed Johnson at No. 32 overall among all the recruits in his class. Advertisement In Georgia, the same rankings have Johnson at No. 4. With Johnson, the Volunteers have an opportunity to land one of the top quarterbacks in back-to-back classes. For 2026, Tennessee received a commitment from No. 1 North Carolina prospect Faizon Brandon. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Brandon is the No. 2 quarterback and sixth overall recruit in the 2026 class. The Volunteers have landed just one commit in the 2027 class so far — three-star linebacker JP Peace. He is the grandson of legendary Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer. But it's still rather early for 2027 recruits to be pledging. Tennessee could land a huge early one, though, in a few weeks if Johnson chooses to come to Knoxville. Elite 2027 4-star QB places Texas A&M in his Top 5 program list
We've reached the point in the summer where the 2027 recruiting class has become a high priority, as next summer, this cycle will likely dominate the headlines. For Texas A&M, the 2026 cycle now includes 19 commitments, following the addition of five commitments last week, but one of the top 2027 signal-callers has placed the Aggies in his Top 5 program list. 2027 four-star quarterback Jayce Johnson has announced that Tennessee, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Florida State, and Texas A&M are the final programs he will focus on ahead of his commitment on August 3. Johnson is considered elite due to his impressive size and arm strength at this point in his young career. Texas A&M offered Johnson back in January, but has yet to host the QB. Set to enter his all-important junior season at Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia, Johnson made his mark during his 2024 sophomore season after throwing for 1,799 yards, 16 touchdowns, and three interceptions, paired with over 300 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Texas A&M OC Collin Klein has already proven to be one of the top quarterback recruiters in the country after landing 2026 four-star Helaman Casuga, who was considered one of the top passers during On3's Elite 11 camp this summer. Johnson has yet to reach his full potential, as he needs to work on several areas of his game, including touch and vision. However, it appears that he'll be considered a five-star prospect sooner rather than later. According to 247Sports Composite, Johnson is currently positioned as the 32nd-ranked prospect in the class, the 2nd-ranked quarterback, and the 4th-ranked prospect in Georgia. Rivals Camp Series: Position MVPs from Atlanta
RIVERDALE, Ga. -- The Rivals Camp Series made its annual stop in Atlanta on Sunday and many top prospects put together impressive performances. Here is a breakdown of the MVPs from the event: MORE FROM ATLANTA: Top performers from Saturday's Rivals Combine Series event CLASS OF 2025 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2026 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2027 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State TRANSFER PORTAL: Full coverage | Player ranking | Team ranking | Transfer search | Transfer Tracker QUARTERBACK: Jayce Johnson Johnson captured MVP honors in a stacked field of passers from the Southeast competing in Atlanta. Johnson throws with torque and is extremely accurate -- throwing short and intermediate passes and also attacking downfield. The four-star prospect layered throws and was able to balance his touch with his fastball, and was consistently placing the ball anywhere he wanted on the field Sunday. RUNNING BACK: Andrew Beard Beard upped his stock in a big way by earning MVP honors on Sunday. Beard was exceptional catching the football out of the backfield and was routing up opposing linebackers, who struggled to keep pace with speed and quick cuts. The four-star prospect is a three-down playmaker and proved as much in Sunday's camp setting. RECEIVER/TIGHT END: Kaiden Prothro Prothro was nearly unguardable and won MVP in a highly-competitive field of pass-catchers. The four-star standout has elite hands and is a mismatch working outside the numbers and also in the middle of the field. We love his catch radius, his ability to play above the rim and the competitiveness to win on contested balls and dominate in the red zone. OFFENSIVE LINE: Gabriel Osenda Osenda saw reps on both the left and right tackle spots and was equally as dynamic in both spots. At 330 pounds, the Tennessee verbal played with excellent bend and feet, used leverage and finished at the end of reps. Osenda has made drastic leaps and bounds with his technique, and it showed with a statement performance against a strong field of defensive linemen on Sunday. He's a stock-up prospect as a premium position. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH TENNESSEE FANS AT DEFENSIVE LINE: JaReylan McCoy McCoy gave opposing tackles fits all day rushing from a two-point stance and also with a hand in the dirt. The Mississippi blue-chipper has length and can win with either speed or power, and continues to build up an array of pass-rush moves to keep tackles off-balance. McCoy had some of the best reps of Sunday's camp at the DL position. LINEBACKER: Duyon Forkpa Jr. Forkpa was a talented hybrid rush linebacker that won reps with speed, then made his money working out at linebacker in the skill-position session in the afternoon. The four-star prospect is a three-down player that can drop back into coverage, is a stout run defender, and showed his ability to put pressure on the QB on third downs. We loved his traits and instincts in coverage -- with rare ability to keep pace and cover backs in space. DEFENSIVE BACK: Jayden Aparicio-Bailey Aparicio-Bailey won reps playing in press and playing off. He was sound rotating and flipping his hips, sticky in coverage and aggressive making plays on the football in the air. Our first live eval of Aparicio-Bailey was through the roof -- as a defensive back capable of playing cornerback, safety or nickel. He was consistently great in coverage all of Sunday.
