Now on a new course towards contention, the front office wasted little time making win-now moves in the offseason. Washington's offense went through a big change last season as former No. 2 pick Jayden Daniels took the reins at quarterback. He quickly took the league by storm, drastically improving the Commanders' play on the side of the ball with his combination of speed and throwing ability. Daniels' presence resulted in Washington winning double-digit games and punching their ticket to the postseason. The Commanders' run didn't end there, as Daniels was able to carry his positive momentum into the postseason. He helped Washington get within arm's reach of a Super Bowl appearance before getting eliminated at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles. Their biggest swing in the offseason was trading for wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Paired with Terry McLaurin (whenever his holdout comes to an end), he will provide Daniels with a pair of wideouts capable of ripping off a big play at any moment. Still in the early stages of their time together, Daniels seems to approve of the Commanders' latest offensive addition. While at "Fanatic Fest" last week, the rising star gave his thoughts on Samuel entering the fold. Daniels jokingly said he can't wait for veteran WR to inflate his passing numbers with his dynamic skill set. "I'm excited to throw him a little screen and hopefully on the stat sheet it says a touchdown for 80 yards and I didn't have to do any of the work," Daniels said with a grin. Across 15 appearances, he racked totaled 670 yards and three touchdowns. Both are the third-lowest marks for any given season in his career. Now with a chance of scenery, Samuel has a chance to get back in the conversation with the league's best wideouts. He is flanked by a young QB who is looking to make a name for himself and isn't scared to let the ball fly. Also, with McLaurin drawing attention from opposing secondary, lanes should open up for Samuel to impact games on a weekly basis. After being part of a handful of deep runs in San Francisco, Samuel will now attempt to help his new team rise to contender status in the NFC. Commanders Trade Terry McLaurin to AFC in Longshot Proposal
Commanders Trade Terry McLaurin to AFC in Longshot Proposal originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Washington Commanders have done too much - and come too far - to not keep star receiver Terry McLaurin. Advertisement Strike while the iron is hot, they say. And with ascending quarterback Jayden Daniels on his rookie contract, the Commanders' front office is making moves for the here and now. Washington shocked the NFL last season with a 12-5 record, two road playoff wins and a run to the NFC Championship Game. This offseason they built on that momentum, trading for receiver Deebo Samuel and Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil. Losing McLaurin - one of the team's best and most beloved players - would stunt the growth. It's not going to happen. But just in case ... McLaurin wants a new contract and may not show up to next month's training camp without one. If the Commanders ultimately can't find a common ground, what could they do with the Pro Bowl target? Advertisement FOX sports sees one of the options being a trade to the Las Vegas Raiders. "To be clear: I'm incredibly confident Terry McLaurin will remain a Commander," writes FOX's David Helman. "He's been loyal to that franchise, even when times weren't so good. He's done nothing but produce, even when he didn't have a star quarterback. He's even held out before, as he used this strategy to secure his current extension back in 2022. I really don't think Washington will let him walk when it finally has a chance to contend." McLaurin had 13 touchdowns last season, second-most in the league and more than twice as many as the entire Raiders' receiving corps. So what would a possible deal look like? "The Raiders are already in decent shape for Geno Smith's first season," FOX continues. "Brock Bowers is a star, and Ashton Jeanty should be one soon. Jakobi Meyers is a solid receiver, but Vegas still needs to upgrade its receiver room. Rather than take your chances in the draft, why not ship a pick or two to Washington and lock in McLaurin for the rest of his prime?" Advertisement Most experts believe McLaurin will stay in Washington. But the longer the issue lingers, the more trade scenarios will begin popping up. Commanders Fans Wonder Why ‘Final' Offseason Move Isn't Done
Commanders Fans Wonder Why 'Final' Offseason Move Isn't Done originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Washington Commanders, since Dan Quinn and Adam Peters took over at the start of last offseason, have had nothing but positive vibes and things going smoothly. Advertisement This offseason, that has been shattered, as Terry McLaurin has been seeking a new contract and, as of now, has yet to receive it. And he's reportedly not thrilled. After already holding out of mandatory minicamp, many wonder if "Scary Terry" will do the same when training camp rolls around next month, and in truth, fans hope that the contract situation is fixed by then. If it isn't, things might get sticky. … and it's all leaving fans wondering why it's not done. For ESPN's Aaron Schatz, Washington's final offseason move is an easy one: extend its star receiver. "McLaurin has been one of the league's best receivers for years, but he never reached his highest potential because of poor quarterback play prior to 2024," Schatz writes. "That's not a problem now with Jayden Daniels in town, and McLaurin ranked fifth in DYAR (defense-adjusted yards above replacement) last season. Advertisement "However, McLaurin's current contract voids after the 2025 season, and the Commanders need to fix that. He skipped a recent mandatory minicamp in hopes that it would prod the Commanders into coming closer to the number he wants on the next contract." Jan 26, 2025; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin (17) reacts after a play against the Philadelphia Eagles during the first half in the NFC Championship game at Lincoln Financial Streicher-Imagn Images With Terry expected to fetch a contract that will at least start at $30 million per annum, it is unclear whether the Commanders are willing to invest that sort of money. However, given their approach this offseason with the trades for Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil, that is the definition of all-in. So, why would the franchise not keep its best offensive player, not named Jayden Daniels? Advertisement It is confusing, but this is the NFL landscape, and there aren't many who don't think Terry and Washington won't agree on a new deal. But the longer it goes, the more skeptical and confused we become. Frankie Luvu Sends Perfectly Clear Message To Commanders Teammates
Frankie Luvu Sends Perfectly Clear Message To Commanders Teammates originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It has been some time since the Washington Commanders were considered a title threat around the NFL. An upstart bunch last season, they shocked the league after knocking off two division champions to reach the NFC Championship Game. Advertisement Washington ultimately fell short on that stage, but there is a belief now that this group can still square up with the best around the league and make another deep playoff run. Evidenced in their activity through the offseason, the Commanders are not just hoping to participate in the postseason. They have made the moves to best position themselves for the next step in 2025. Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu is leading the charge, calling his teammates to action. Luvu wants the team mentally prepared to leave last season in the rearview. "I know it's unfinished business. We left a lot out there last year, but last year was last year," Luvu said via the team website. "This year is a new beginning, new start. We just gotta do the work now so when the time does come, we can celebrate." Advertisement Others within the locker room have reflected the same mindset. Jayden Daniels has poured in extra preparation this offseason, hoping to avoid any slump in his second season. It's no surprise that such ambitions are trickling down to other areas of the team. Trades to add talents like Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil are also reflective of this. Despite having many of the same key players from the 2024 squad, this is a new team embracing a greater challenge this time around. The rigor of an NFL schedule and the gauntlet of opponents looking to accomplish the same goal means there's no guarantee that everything will work out in Washington's favor. But there is an abundance of focus and a readiness to leave everything out on the field once again. Florida State Football Preview 2025: The Seminoles Hit the Refresh Button
What happened to Florida State? This isn't actually all that program got caught in an all-time bad break perfect storm at the end of 2023 to miss out on the CFP, made worse by a 63-3 Orange Bowl loss to a Georgia team that could've put up 80+ if it tried, and …Because there wasn't enough horrible luck for that Seminole team, it was the last year of the four-team the hits just kept onnnnnnnn coming. X CFN, Fiu | CFN Facebook | Bluesky Fiu, CFN Florida State Offense BreakdownFlorida State Defense BreakdownSeason Prediction, Win Total, Keys to SeasonAfter suffering the most brutal of gut punches, Florida State seemingly had a good enough team returning to quickly get back on track. Fully motivated, it all instantly fell apart after a last-second loss to Georgia Tech in Ireland. From there, the bad vibes never went away. Oh, and 2024 Florida State played a way harder schedule than it did the year 2023 team was great, starting with a dominant win over Jayden Daniels and a strong LSU team in the opener, but lost in history was how FSU slipped by Clemson because Dabo's 19th-string kicker biffed the game-winning field goal try in regulation. Also forgotten was that the LSU win and the ACC Championship victory over Louisville were the two victories over teams that won ten games. In all, the 2023 team played seven games in the regular season against teams that went bowling. The 2024 team played 11 - Charleston Southern was the lone outlier - including five that won ten games or more. Three of those were against CFP teams, and one was against a Notre Dame squad that played for the national doesn't mean Florida State should've lost to Boston College by 15, or to North Carolina by 24, or to Florida 20, all at home. And now this becomes a wildly interesting experiment. From 12-1, to 1-11, to almost completely starting over, at least with the starters, FSU is loaded with upperclassmen, it's totally reliant on new guys, and that might be exactly what the program should be between 11 to 15 new starters for the opener against Alabama who weren't part of the 2023 fun or the 2024 pity party. Getting Gus Malzahn as the offensive coordinator was a coup, there's a new defensive coordinator, and overall, the refresh should get everything going again. It might be one of those Mike Tyson "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth" things with Alabama to kick things off, but there's talent, along with decent depth on the way to a bowl. Remember, FSU has only been to three or those since there's an expanded playoff this time around, just in case head coach Mike Norvell makes it three double-digit winning seasons in four years. But that only happens if he gets a lot more out of his … Florida State Offense BreakdownFlorida State Defense BreakdownSeason Prediction, Win Total, Keys to Season © 2025 The Arena Group Holdings, Inc.
