Jazwell Brown's victim talks to BBC about 'traumatising' attack
Bradley Latter's fiancé Teohna Grant was murdered, along with another woman, in a brutal attack by drug-fuelled Jazwell Brown on Christmas Day in Milton Keynes. Mr Latter has spoken with the BBC about the "traumatising" events of that day and the effect it has had on his life. It was early evening in a block of flats when Bradley Latter saw Jazwell Brown walking down the hall with a baseball bat in his did not think anything of it as his neighbour would regularly walk into their home in Santa Cruz Avenue, Bletchley, in Milton Keynes. But then he heard a scream from his fiancée Teohna Grant and was pushed back into the living room as Brown began to stab him repeatedly with a knife. It was a brutal attack in which his partner died, along with their neighbour Joanne Pearson. Recalling the events of that evening the 30-year-old said that "it felt like an eternity but it couldn't have been longer than a second before I realised what was happening"."I did not know I was being stabbed at the time. I could just feel a pressure and a sort of cold feeling up towards my shoulder."He said his "objective was Teohna" as he did not know where she was and he hoped she had got out of their flat. "I just wanted to keep him [Brown] there as long as possible so she could get away."Ms Grant managed to crawl to the balcony of their flat and attempted to get help, but was attacked again by Brown. The 24-year-old died at the scene, having been repeated stabbed. Brown, who had been smoking crack cocaine, was given a life sentence with a minimum of 39 years for the murders of his partner Joanne Pearson, 38, and Ms Grant on December 25, 2024. The 49-year-old also admitted attempting to murder his son, Jake Brown, 18, and Mr Latter. During the attack Mr Latter said he kept asking, "Why are you doing this? What have I done?"Brown was staring directly at him but there was no expression – "Just a blank stare."Mr Latter told the BBC how he remembered feeling weaker due to the blood loss. "I did the only thing I could think at the time and I fell to the floor and played dead," he added. He then noticed Brown walking out and he ran to the door and through the keyhole he saw his neighbour, Ms Pearson, face Latter picked his phone up he was surprised it unlocked as it was covered in blood but he managed to call 999. After making his way downstairs "one officer came running in and that image haunts me. She saw me and froze".He told the BBC he had suffered 20 stab wounds to the neck during the onslaught but it is the emotional consequences that he is still struggling to deal with. "It is the nightmares which are the worst – replaying the events over and over again... and I do not think they are going to stop," he said. He added that still living in the flat where his partner was murdered "is just traumatising by itself, especially being alone most days"."Nothing I can do can bring Teohna back but I have to live for her," Mr Latter said. Mr Latter is now calling for police need to be given powers to deal with knife crime more robustly, along with additional funding for more rehabilitation centres. "People need to understand it is not cool [to carry a knife], it is not protection. "It is just not worth someone's life. Police are there for a reason whether people like it or not."Mr Latter said he loved to work but now he feels "useless" and that his "entire independence has been taken away".He added: "The moment I lay down and become depressed, in a way he [Brown] has won." Bletchley community helps convict Christmas Day double murderer
On Christmas Day police received a call not realising at the time it was made by a teenager who had just nearly been killed by his crack cocaine-fuelled Brown was given a life sentence with a minimum of 39 years for the murders of Joanne Pearson, 38, and Teohna Grant, 24, at a block of flats in Santa Cruz Avenue, Bletchley, in Milton 49, also admitted attempting to murder his son Jake Brown, 18, and his 29-year-old neighbour Bradley Ch Insp Stuart Brangwin, from Thames Valley Police, said both Mr Latter and Jake, who was 17 at the time, "gave us a really clear account of what happened – we don't normally get that". Jake Brown described the events as they unfolded in the flat where Joanne lived with Jazwell Brown who was her Tuesday during sentencing, Luton Crown Court heard Ms Pearson and her killer had been smoking crack cocaine on Christmas Day and the attack happened after Joanne refused to hand over the crack pipe in front of the Brown's was found by police just inside the doorway to her Latter, who lived with his partner Teohna in the flat across the communal landing, was found semi-conscious at the bottom of the stairs as police told the police Brown came across the landing and walked into their flat, which was unlocked, and then started his attack with a baseball bat and a found Teohna on the balcony. Mr Latter "himself suffered something like 20 knife injuries to his neck alone and somehow survived" said the detective."We have two crystal clear accounts of exactly what has happened" and "after that it was all about making sure every little bit of that corroborated"."We had forensic examinations of the scene, we had lots of members of the public living in nearby properties phoning us as well – each of them had heard little bits of the attack," said Det Ch Insp Brangwin."One of them (members of the public) even gave us a description and told us his name and told us the registration number of the car Brown got into and used to get away."As it happened: Live updates from Tuesday's sentencingMr Brangwin said: "We were very fortunate in that an unmarked car managed to identify Brown's car as he made off and then we managed to co-ordinate a number of armed response vehicles and he was arrested within half an hour."We were well supported by the community and they did everything to help us build that picture around the two initial accounts we were given." When Brown was interviewed by police he answered no comment gave some unsolicited comments outside of the formal interview in which he simply said he went "loopy", "lost the plot" and "lost his cool" said Det Ch Insp Brangwin."He made some other comments about it not being self-defence but we do not really know much other than that about what prompted him to behave the way he did. It almost seems to have come out of nowhere," said the suggested his relationship with Joanne was volatile at times but there was no clear evidence that it was violent."What is clear from the evidence presented by other witnesses is that drugs featured in both his and Jo's life and their lives did involve the use of cocaine and cannabis," added the senior officer."We know he was likely under the influence of cocaine but really there is nothing that seems to have prompted it or started it on Christmas Day."A number of the families have said the sentencing is just the beginning of the healing process and I hope it does provide them with an opportunity to start moving forward." Man murdered partner and neighbour in ‘cocaine-fuelled attack' on Christmas Day
A man murdered his partner and neighbour and tried to kill his son in an unprovoked and 'frenzied' attack after taking cocaine on Christmas Day, a court has heard. Jazwell Brown, 49, fatally stabbed Joanne Pearson, 38, with a kitchen knife and beat her with a baseball bat in their flat in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, before doing the same to 18-year-old Jake Brown, who survived the incident, Luton Crown Court heard. He then entered his neighbour's flat where he stabbed Teohna Grant, 24, and tried to murder her boyfriend Bradley Latter, 29, by stabbing him multiple times. Ms Pearson was stabbed 31 times in the attack, while Ms Grant suffered five sharp force injuries, including a deep stab wound to the neck, and Jake Brown was left with a life-threatening wound to his chest, a sentencing hearing was told on Tuesday. Prosecutor Deanna Heer KC told the court: 'The evidence suggests that the assaults were wholly unprovoked, committed by the defendant whilst he was under the influence of cocaine.' The court heard the defendant lived on the second floor of a communal housing block in Santa Cruz Avenue, Bletchley at the time of the events. Brown and Ms Pearson had been in an 'unhealthy' relationship for several years, with both taking Class A drugs and the pair regularly heard arguing by neighbours, Ms Heer said. Jake Brown visited their flat on the evening of December 25 last year and Ms Pearson told him they had both been smoking crack cocaine. After Ms Pearson was reluctant to smoke the same drug in front of Jake, the defendant 'seemed to become suspicious' and sat quietly, Ms Heer said. 'The defendant then picked up a screwdriver and a kitchen knife from the table in the living room and approached Pearson, who asked him what he was doing and tried to walk away,' the prosecutor said. 'Without saying a word, he began to stab her with the knife repeatedly in a frenzied attack. 'Jake Brown tried to pull his father away from her, only for the defendant to turn to him and stab him in the chest.' Jake Brown describes his father as being 'completely expressionless' as he attacked them, the court heard. The teenage boy called the police as he hid in the bathroom before Brown breached the room, holding the baseball bat. Jake told officers there had been no argument and nothing to justify the defendant's actions, and that the attack was like 'watching a horror film', the prosecutor said. Brown then made his way across the communal landing to the flat next door, where Mr Latter and Ms Grant, who had left their door unlocked, were sitting in the living room enjoying a quiet Christmas day, the court heard. The defendant then stabbed both victims multiple times with a 'blank' face, Ms Heer said. The prosecutor added: 'He stared Mr Latter dead in the eyes and continued to stab him, without saying a word.' Soon afterwards, a witness living opposite the flat saw Ms Grant come out onto the balcony of the flat holding the front of her throat with her hands, shouting 'Help! I can't breathe.' After leaving the second flat, Brown then walked 'in a manner described as casual with his hands in his pockets' towards the car park where he got into his car, the prosecutor said. Police officers, who had arrived at the scene and were standing in the road, attempted to stop him but the defendant instead drove directly towards them, forcing them to move out of the way, before driving off without switching his headlights on. Brown's vehicle was located by the police driving erratically at speeds of up to 50mph, eventually being brought to a halt by armed police in Milton Keynes, the court heard. The prosecutor said officers described the defendant as 'spaced out' and he appeared to have blood on his hands as they were placed in handcuffs. A bloodstained knife was found on the passenger seat of his car, with the defendant's fingerprint in blood on the knife, while spots of Ms Pearson's and Mr Latter's blood were found on his trainers. Whilst in a cell following his arrest, Brown made the unsolicited comment: 'Oh Jesus, what happened tonight What happened tonight, boy? Pure f****** madness. Pure madness. 'I've gone f****** crazy guys. Just gone crazy.' He went on to say 'I've gone bloody looney', before later saying: 'Not self-defence. Murder. It's plain murder, not self-defence. Murder'. In a victim impact statement read in court, Mr Latter said: 'We both thought of you as our neighbour and close friend for a number of years. 'The impact your crimes have had on me are never-ending. My whole world and future was heinously taken away by you.' He added: 'The world will now and forever go on without you here.' Parris Grant, Teohna's sister, said in her own statement that Teohna was 'a pure and kind soul' and described her as 'irreplaceable'. She said she now found herself becoming anxious in public, and addressed the defendant as she added: 'I have an irrational fear now that anyone I come across will be like you. 'I don't see Christmas as Christmas anymore – I see it as the day you stole my sister.' Susan Pearson, Joanne's mother, said in her statement, read out by Ms Heer in court: 'We can only imagine how horrific her final moments were at the hands of Jazwell Brown. 'Our own wellbeing has also been seriously compromised. Our faith in humanity has been seriously rocked. We don't think we will ever understand.' Brown pleaded guilty to two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, possession of a knife in a public place and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal on April 15. The court heard he had 10 previous convictions for 15 separate offences, including an offence of battery against a former partner for which he was convicted in 2009. Appearing in the dock, the defendant spoke only to confirm his identity during the sentencing and looked down with his head held in his head as the victim impact statements were read out. Brown will be sentenced later on Tuesday.

Bletchley Christmas Day killer gets 39-year jail term
A paranoid father who stabbed two women to death on Christmas Day while high on drugs has been jailed at least 39 Brown, 49, smoked crack cocaine before murdering his partner Joanne Pearson, 38, and neighbour Teohna Grant, 24, at a block of flats in Bletchley, near Milton admitted the two murders and also attempting to murder his son, Jake, who was 17, and his neighbour Bradley Latter, Justice Kerr sentenced Brown to a life in jail and told him he would serve a minimum of 39 before being considered as eligible for parole. Luton Crown Court heard Ms Pearson and Ms Grant died at the scene after being repeatedly Pearson lived with Brown in a block of flats where they had been smoking crack cocaine. Brown's son Jake, now 18, arrived and he was also attacked, but Grant lived in a neighbouring flat and was murdered, while her partner Mr Latter was also attacked, but Pearson's dog, Tilly, also suffered stab wounds, but survived. Brown fled the scene but was spotted by eyewitnesses and captured on updates from the sentencing hearing as they happenedHe was arrested shortly afterwards and told officers: "I lost my cool tonight" adding it was "not self-defence... plain murder, it's plain murder, not self-defence'."Family members were in court and heard how Brown's behaviour on the day was triggered by drug use. Deanne Heer KC, prosecuting, said Brown, his son Jake and Ms Pearson had been in the living room smoking crack cocaine before Brown "began attacking" his partner after she refused to hand over the crack told the court that the teenager had described the scene as "like watching a horror film".Ms Heer described how Jake was attacked after he attempted to save Ms suffered a stab wound before grabbing his phone and shutting himself in a bathroom to call Pearson could be heard on the emergency call screaming: "Jaz, no, you're killing me, tell my children I love them."She suffered 31 stab wounds to her face, neck, chest, abdomen and arms as well scratches that were believed to have been inflicted after her then made his way next door and attacked Ms Grant and her partner Mr Latter. "Watching people you love being stabbed is heart-breaking... I heard Jo screaming for her life, begging him to stop," Jake said."Every night I hear Jo screaming for her life, and see Jo being stabbed." The families of Ms Pearson and Ms Grant released statements following Brown's Pearson family said they would "never understand why" he killed her."Jo always cared for everyone around her, which was evident even in her last moments of her life," they said. "She was inseparable from her dog Tilly who she told us was her rock."Ms Grant's family added that the "pain will never go away"."The heartbreak is intensified by the realisation that we lost her due to the senseless, cruel actions of someone else," they said. "Our world is emptier, full of sadness and holds a lot less laughter now that she has gone." Brown, who the court heard had 10 previous convictions, had entered guilty pleas at a hearing in Luton Crown Court in April. 'Healing journey' Det Ch Insp Stuart Brangwin of Thames Valley Police said after sentencing that the scenes in the flats were "indescribable" to witness."The surviving victims and the families of Teohna and Jo have suffered enormously," he said."Family members have described today's sentencing as part of the healing journey."We know there is a long way to go but I hope that after today they can at least start that process."Celia Mardon, of the Crown Prosecution Service, added: "Our thoughts today are with Jo and Teohna's families and loved ones who have suffered such unimaginable loss."We worked closely with Thames Valley Police to build a case to secure justice for all of those affected by Jazwell Brown's inexplicable and violent actions." He told the defendant: 'The terrible crimes you committed that day have torn apart the lives of many people.' The judge said he accepted a psychiatric report that 'the use of illegal drugs was the immediate trigger of the attacks', adding: 'That intoxication was voluntary.' He said that Brown's assault on his son Jake was 'a terrible betrayal of a son's natural trust in his father'.
