Designer Effie Kats shares her fashion favourites
This story is part of the June 29 edition of Sunday Life. Each week, we quiz a prominent person about their style and the inspiration behind it. Ahead, designer Effie Kats. The designer's signature scent is 'Jazz Club' by Maison Margiela Replic. How would you describe your style? There's a duality. During the day I keep it simple with clean silhouettes and some subtle structure; at night my look becomes softer and more intuitive with a hint of drama. I predominantly wear my own labels. Effie Kats is evening wear and Bayse Brand is more casual, so I'm covered. What's the oldest thing in your wardrobe? A Chanel belt – the classic gold chain with black leather woven through it and a gold medallion – from the 1980s. And the most recent addition? The 'Boat' bag from Korean label OSOI. I like supporting smaller independent brands, it feels more personal, less about trends and more about unique design.

Jessie J wows in mesh outfit in last red carpet before undergoing cancer surgery
Pop star Jessie J made a stunning return to the red carper for Capital's Summertime Ball as she rocked a mesh bodysuit paired with a black mini dress before her performance Jessie J looked sensational as she made a return to the red carpet for Capital's Summertime Ball. The pop star, 37, decided to share her cancer diagnosis earlier this month and spoke of her plans to have surgery after her performance tonight. She revealed she has been diagnosed with "early breast cancer" and that she has spent a lot of her recent time "in and out of tests". Jessie made a stunning entrance on the red carpet this evening as she stepped out in a mesh bodysuit paired with black mini dress. The Pricetag hitmaker added a pair of chunky black heels as well as a silver broach on her chest of a hand pinching part of her dress. Jessie added a smokey eye paired with a nude lipstick and had her dark locks slicked back into a bun. She beamed as she posed for photos ahead of taking to the stage later. Speaking just last week, the mum-of-one told her fans: "I was diagnosed with early breast cancer." "Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding on to the word 'early'. It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job. I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive t**s and more music," Jessie, whose full name is Jessica Cornish, shared. After making the announcement, the much-loved singer shared a video on Instagram from her performance at London's Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, explaining that she was in a lot of discomfort but she didn't want to cancel the show and let her fans down. In the video, Jessie admitted: "I had 5 breast biopsies the night before this show. I was in some discomfort but so hyped to do it and I didn't want to cancel. "The more I watch this show back I can see my brain working in complete overdrive trying not to blurt it all out. Laughing and making jokes in hard times [handshake emoji] me. And I am in-fact under your bed.' Nearing the end of her set, the singer said that she was in a lot of pain, but that she wasn't going to let it get in the way of doing what she loves most. She joked: "I don't know why I'm w**king off the mic. Okay, it's time for me to end this set because I'm getting too wild.' Jessie revealed she wanted to share her diagnosis with the public to help her process the news, and to show solidarity with others who are going through a similar experience. "I just wanted to be open and share it, " she expressed. "One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I'm not processing it because I'm working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. "I'm an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse-that's the bit that kills me." She continued: "The timing of it has been mad but also beautiful and given me this incredible perspective in this time. "But honestly I need to process it and talk about it and, I need a hug. You have loved me through all my good and hard times. And I don't want this to be any different," she concluded.
