Rockets Make Major Roster Decisions on 3 Crucial Players

Rockets Make Major Roster Decisions on 3 Crucial Players originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Houston Rockets have been very active this offseason. Free agency hasn't technically started just yet, but Houston has kept most of its current team around. Advertisement The Rockets also traded for star forward Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns, giving themselves even more firepower. But Houston understands that having a well-rounded team is how teams win in this current era. According to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN, the Rockets are planning to keep Aaron Holiday, Jeff Green, and Jae'Sean Tate around. This is a solid move for the Rockets and helps the team keep some continuity for next season. Houston was the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference this past season, and they will be looking to improve on that next year. By adding Durant to the mix, the Rockets now have a legitimate "go-to" type of player on the roster. Houston needed the scoring punch from a player like Durant in the postseason against the Golden State Warriors. Houston has been building a nice culture in the building, and it seems that they want to keep it growing. Advertisement Many around the NBA see the Rockets as a sleeping giant due to the players on the roster and assets that the front office can use in potential deals down the line. The Rockets' front office has been very active in recent years, and they have completely turned this team around. Houston will be a force to deal with next season again, and they will have room to make more moves once free agency opens. Houston Rockets shock fans by bringing back Jae'Sean Tate, Aaron Holiday and Jeff Green for 2025 NBA Season

Instead of chasing new stars, they're choosing to reunite with three players already familiar with the team. That's what has fans buzzing this week after a new update made the rounds online. Houston Rockets plan return for Jae'Sean Tate , Aaron Holiday and Jeff Green On June 27, NBA insider Shams Charania reported on X that the Houston Rockets are planning to bring back Jae'Sean Tate, Aaron Holiday, and Jeff Green for the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season. The news was first picked up by ClutchPoints, and fans were quick to react. All three players suited up for the Houston Rockets last season. Jae'Sean Tate, aged 29, has been part of the team since 2020. He is known for his energy and defense, and often guarded several positions. 27 years old Aaron Holiday gave solid minutes as a backup guard. And Jeff Green, the 38-year-old veteran and former NBA champion, brought calm leadership to a young roaster. The move shows that Houston prioritizes chemistry and knowledge rather than flashy changes. While Rockets has not yet shared contract details, the re-signs will be expected when the free agency opens on July 1. Houston Rockets focus on experience and stability over big moves There's been no formal statement from general manager Rafael Stone or head coach Ime Udoka so far. But insiders suggest the front office sees value in keeping a core group that already knows the system. With young talent like Amen Thompson and Jabari Smith Jr. developing fast, bringing back veterans could help strike a healthy balance on the court. Jeff Green's voice in the locker room was reportedly one of the reasons the Rockets want him back. Aaron Holiday's Steady Guard Play was also valued in a backcourt full of youth. Although Jae'Sen Tate has fought injuries, he is still one of the team's most reliable and tough-minded defenders. Although the Houston Rockets may not steal headlines this week, their constant approach can pay off in the long term. In a league full of change, Rockets seems to say, "Stick to what works." Arizona Republic: Rockets ‘ideal trade destination' for Kevin Durant

The Houston Rockets are the 'ideal landing spot' in a trade for Phoenix star Kevin Durant, an NBA source told Suns beat writer Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic. 'A league source informed The Republic the Rockets would be the ideal landing spot for Durant, saying they need a 'go-to guy' in the fourth quarter and have draft picks and young players to offer the Suns in return,' Rankin writes. Advertisement The story continues: Rockets coach Ime Udoka has a relationship with Durant. Udoka was an assistant in Brooklyn in the 2020-21 season when Durant was with the Nets. Durant is also close friends with Rockets assistant Royal Ivey. They both played at the University of Texas and were teammates at Oklahoma City. Confirming recent reports, Rankin notes that a Durant trade is expected to take place in the coming days. Among many ties to Houston and the state of Texas, Durant is also linked to Jeff Green, who played with the Rockets in each of the previous two seasons. For four seasons at the start of their NBA careers, Durant and Green were teammates in Seattle and Oklahoma City. As a result of the Fed's rate hikes in 2022 and 2023, inflation has come down from frothy levels post-pandemic. The general rise in the price of goods and services is trending towards the Fed's 2% goal as of late, which is good news. The higher rates that fought inflation also didn't slow economic activity enough to catalyze a recession. So far, soft landing. This, combined with recent rate cuts (half a percent in September 2024 and a quarter percent in November 2024) have led to strong stock market performance in 2024. The icing on the cake for 2024 returns was Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. Presidential Election in early November, sending major indices to all-time highs in the week following the election. Still, debates around the health of the economy and the impact of potential tariffs and corporate tax cuts remain, leaving much uncertainty around 2025. Report: Rockets could need pay cuts to retain Jeff Green, Jae'Sean Tate, Aaron Holiday

Report: Rockets could need pay cuts to retain Jeff Green, Jae'Sean Tate, Aaron Holiday Veterans Jeff Green, Jae'Sean Tate, and Aaron Holiday might need to take paycuts in order to return to the Rockets in 2025-26, per Kelly Iko of The Athletic. The Rockets will be a much more expensive team in the NBA's 2025-26 season, owing largely to salary increases for Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green. Depending on moves this offseason, Houston could be in luxury tax territory. The Rockets also have at least two younger prospects — Reed Sheppard and Cam Whitmore — that they would like to find more minutes for. With those types of considerations in mind, the 2025-26 Rockets might not have as much room in the budget for veteran players near the end of the bench. In 2024-25, Jeff Green, Jae'Sean Tate, and Aaron Holiday made $8.0 million, $7.6 million, and $4.7 million, respectively. While Houston seems to have some level of interest in retaining each of them, it might require a paycut for those players to stick around. Per Kelly Iko of The Athletic: A larger chunk of playing time for Sheppard would diminish veteran Aaron Holiday's role. Holiday emerged as a trusted option under Udoka over the past two seasons. He has a $4.9 million team option for next season, but the Rockets, who have expressed a desire to retain him, would likely wait and see how the rest of the roster pans out, along with the market, before circling back. Jeff Green and Tate, both of whom Houston is fond of, fall into a similar category. There's a possibility that only veteran minimum contracts would be available. Green recently expressed interest in a return, and Tate is a five-year NBA veteran who has only played for the Rockets over that time. All three are beloved in Houston's locker room and looked upon fondly as veteran leaders and mentors. Green was a consistent rotation player as recently as 2023-24, and Tate and Holiday had rotation stints in 2024-25. The latter two are accomplished defensively, where Houston ranked in the NBA's top five last season. So, there is definitely appeal to having them around as insurance options for head coach Ime Udoka. However, because of the changing composition of the roster around them, each might need to take a paycut in order to stick around. Time will tell if they choose to do so. The Rockets are allowed to negotiate with their own free agents as soon as the 2025 NBA Finals conclude, and negotiations with other teams and players across the league can begin on June 30. Minimum salaries are slotted according to NBA experience, though even the highest (for a player with 10+ years of experience, such as Green) is still below $4 million annually. For Green and Tate, a minimum deal would be less than half of their 2024-25 salary. More: As free agency looms, Jeff Green hopeful of re-signing with Rockets
