A former Democratic staffer and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) official has been released on bond after recently being arrested and charged with abduction with the use of force, sexual battery, and assault and battery. In a press release that was published earlier this month, the City of Alexandria announced, 'The Alexandria Police Department (APD), in collaboration with the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD), has arrested 35-year-old Jeffrey Gary, a resident of Fairfax County, in connection with assaulting a woman on Friday evening near the Braddock Metro Station.' According to the press release, Gary approached a female from behind at 9:41 p.m. on a Friday night before grabbing her, wrestling her to the ground, and trying to restrain her. 'The victim bravely resisted, shoved the suspect away, and ran to safety before calling 911,' the press release stated. 'No weapon was used in the assault.' ABC 13 News reported that prior to the incident at 9:41, Gary assaulted another woman who was with her four-year-old child at the Potomac Yard Metro station at 8:45 p.m. The City of Alexandria confirmed that Gary has been charged with one count of assault and battery, one count of sexual battery, and two counts of abduction with force. According to ALXnow, Gary worked as an assistant division chief for the FCC until he was arrested on June 1. In a statement to The Daily Caller, the FCC said, 'Upon hearing of this disturbing incident we took immediate action against this employee. His employment with the agency has been terminated.' Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) in 2015 and as a law clerk for Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) in 2017 and 2018. Court records obtained by ALXnow show that the former Democrat staffer was released on four bonds totaling $14,000 on June 13. The outlet noted that Gary is currently expected to appear in court on July 7. Following Gary's release on bail, Alexandria Commonwealth Attorney Bryan Porter told ALXnow that the city 'disagrees' with his release. 'The Commonwealth disagrees with the bail decision and is appealing the matter to the Court of Appeals,' Porter said. 'The defendant is presumed to be innocent, and the fact that he has been charged should not be taken as evidence that he is guilty. Given that the matter is pending, the Commonwealth cannot make further comment about the case.' A picture of the former Democratic staffer has been shared on X, formerly Twitter. Fairfax County man denied bond for attempted abductions in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) — A Fairfax County man remains in custody, accused of two attempted abductions, including one at a Metrorail station. The Alexandria County Police Department released video from one of their cameras, caught on Friday night. It's said to show Jeffrey Gary, 35, as he tried to abduct a woman along Braddock Road, not far from the Metro station. The woman managed to get free and call the police. Investigation underway after suspects fire shots at tow truck driver in Montgomery Village, police say The attack happened about an hour after Metro Transit Police said Gary tried to abduct another woman, this time at the Potomac Yard Station, while with her four-year-old child. 'Another passenger was exiting the system, and it distracted the arrestee,' said Metro Transit Deputy Chief Dan Alvarez. She escaped and also called for help, police say. 'He was targeting females while riding on the Metro,' said Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire. Alexandria Police, Metro Transit Police, and Fairfax County Police found Gary early Sunday morning and arrested him. 'Your actions were [cowardly],' McGuire said. 'The pursuit of justice will be relentless until this case completely comes to a close.' The attempted abduction surprised Metro passengers, but they're glad to hear a suspect is in custody. 'That's good, police doing their jobs,' said Leo Martinez of Raleigh, N.C. 'That's what we expect.' Investigators said Gary does not have any prior arrests. They ask the public to contact them if they believe they're a victim. 'This department stands firmly behind the principle that no one, no woman, should ever have to live in fear of violence,' said McGuire. Gary remains held without bond, charged with assault and battery, and abduction. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
