Not (just) like Jennie: ‘KPop Demon Hunters' director/writer clarifies Blackpink's Jennie only one of many references
SEOUL, June 28 —There has been a lot of online speculation as to which K-pop idol specifically inspired the K-pop idol groups Huntrix and Saja Boys in Netflix's KPop Demon Hunters. The show has proven to be quite a hit, with a very warm reception from K-pop fans. Unfortunately, if there's one thing fans are a little too good at is starting conflicts between fandoms, so it's not surprising that writer and director of the show Maggie Kang decided to clear the air in a post on X. 'Rumi was inspired by many leading ladies, some not even K-Pop. Names are going around (individual idols + groups) bc we only said 'yes' as they were mentioned by interviewer to us but list of inspo for both Huntr/x & Saja Boys is endless. This has been clarified by us to press,' Kang said. She said it in a post quoting an X account stating that the character Rumi of Huntrix was reportedly inspired by Blackpink's Jennie. Rumi was inspired by many leading ladies, some not even K-Pop. Hopefully the online vitriol doesn't scare off Kang from making more stories from the Kpop Demon Hunters universe. Right now Netflix is already selling merchandise from the show and has even opened preorders for a plush version of the blue tiger Derpy.

BLACKPINK's fans send protest truck to YG Entertainment a week before DEADLINE World Tour, know why
BLACKPINK is set to be back as a full-group next month. As part of their 2025 DEADLINE World Tour, the group will perform at the Goyang Sports Complex Main Stadium on June 5 and 6, where they will also unveil a new single. However, with the tour just around the corner, Korean BLINKs (BLACKPINK's fandom) sent a protest truck to the agency's offices, citing grievances over alleged mismanagement. A protest truck stationed outside YG Entertainment featured an LED banner containing several demands from the BLACKPINK Fan Union in, written in Korean language. They included– ' BLINKs demand a new song release on July 4th'", 'We're sick of YG's incompetence,' 'This isn't a hiatus, this is unfair treatment." Other messages included– 'Stop using BLINKs,' 'Stop delaying and making excuses and get to work now,' and 'We demand an official BLACKPINK comeback, not a leaked video or fancam. What is BLACKPINK's fandom protesting against? The video message included the fans' grievances and called for specific actions from the agency. Through the truck, the fandom listed their four central grievances, with the first being better treatment of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa by YG Entertainment. Another included fans' frustration over the lengthy wait of almost 3 years for BLACKPINK's comeback, only to be underwhelmed by the preparation. The fact that the group will only release a single, rather than a full album, made them unhappy. They demanded at least a release of a music video for the single on July 4, a day ahead of the tour's commencement. The further put forward their request for a group new album with 15-20 new songs, proper promotion, production of BLACKPINK Diary 2, and better communication with fans, rallying under the hashtag #YG_Blink_July_4th_BLACKPINK_Comeback_Demand. The fans further criticised YGE for lack of group activities for BLACKPINK since their 2023 contract renewal. They also alleged them of not supporting members' solo careers and limiting their musical potential. The current situation is tense, and all eyes will be on whether the management label will meet the fans' demands, and if not, how it may affect the artists.

G Dragon, Jennie make NME's top albums of year so far
British music publication NME published list of 'The best albums of 2025 … so far!' on Thursday in the UK which included two albums of K-pop artists: G Dragon and Jennie. G Dragon's 'Ubermensch' is a 'commanding, compelling comeback' that 'proves the K-pop star's still got it,' wrote the magazine which previously commented that it 'is firmly on par with G Dragon's best work and yet more proof of his unwavering greatness.' The album is his third solo LP that marked his solo comeback after eight years away. Jennie's first solo LP 'Ruby' was touted as 'a showcase of bold creative vision that goes beyond being Blackpink's 'It Girl.'' Upon the release of the album, it wrote, 'After years of being scrutinized, Jennie flips the lens back onto herself and seizes control of her own mythos with staggering clarity.'
