Oklahoma farmer killed by water buffalo he bought at auction just a day prior

Two "aggressive" water buffaloes fatally attacked an Oklahoma man before confronting — and delaying — police and firefighters who responded to care for the victim, authorities said Monday. Brad McMichael, 45, died on Friday from injuries he sustained from the large animals he had purchased at auction a day prior, his family and police said. The emergency call for help came at about 8:35 p.m. local time in the small town of Jones, about 20 miles outside of Oklahoma City, Jones Police Chief Bryan Farrington said in a statement. First responders, however, were "initially unable to reach the victim due to the aggressive behavior of the animals." "Briefly, maybe 3 (minutes)," Jones Deputy Police Chief Sony Nohmer told NBC News when describing the delay in care. First responders killed one water buffalo, allowing them to get to McMichael, who 'had sustained multiple deep lacerations that proved to be fatal,' Farrington said. McMichael's fiancée, Jennifer Green, said that the delay was inconsequential. He was pronounced dead at the scene. "I was there," Green said. As first responders continued their work, a second water buffalo "became increasingly agitated and posed a threat to emergency personnel" and those on site that were also dispatched, according to the police statement. Green said that she believes McMichael was preparing water for the animals when they attacked, and he would have never carelessly put himself in a dangerous position. "He wouldn't have been casual and, like I said, he was very experienced," Green said. "So we don't know how he got in that situation. But the stock tanks were not full of water yet. So we're not sure if he was dumping them out to fill them with fresh water before he left. But that's when it happened." Running the farm had been a "dream" come true for McMichael. "Most are aware by now we lost Bradley on Friday in a tragic accident," Green said in a statement she posted on the McMichael Farms Facebook page. "His farm was his dream, and I had the privilege of helping him with it for a little while." McMichael was survived by his 21-year-old son Rylan, his ex-wife Amy Smith, a sister, a mother, and a grandmother. The land where McMichael was raising cattle, lamb, and goats has been in the family for at least three generations, Smith and Green said. Smith explained that the farm "was everything to him, it's what he lived for." "Farming, our son and the community of Jones meant everything to him," she added. "He was a man that was brought up in that town and was never ever going to leave." Green said she's been overwhelmed by the well wishes coming from Jones residents. "I don't know if [McMichael] knew that people loved him as much as they do," she said. This article was originally published on

Oklahoma farmer killed by water buffaloes he bought at auction the day before, police say

A farmer in Oklahoma was killed by two water buffaloes that he purchased at a livestock auction the day before, police said Monday. Police and fire personnel were called to a farm in Jones, Oklahoma, about 20 miles northeast of Oklahoma City, on Friday around 8:35 p.m. local time about an individual who had been attacked by the animals, a police news release said. "Upon arrival, first responders were initially unable to reach the victim due to the aggressive behavior of the animals," the release said. The first responders put down one of the buffaloes to get to the victim, who was identified as Bradley McMichael. He had "multiple deep lacerations that proved to be fatal," police said. The second buffalo was later put down after it "became increasingly agitated and posed a threat to emergency personnel" as the scene was being processed, the news release said. McMichael had bought the animals at a livestock auction on Thursday. "It is believed that while tending to the animals, he became trapped inside their enclosure," police said. McMichael's family told KFOR, an NBC affiliate, that purchasing livestock was a passion for him. "He was at the auction Thursday night and he loved to be there, he was in good spirits. The best mood I've seen him in a while," his girlfriend, Jennifer Green, told the station. "His farm was his dream," the post says.

Tavern Talk Thursday: July Kickstarters to Keep An Eye On

Welcome to Tavern Talk Thursday! We are expanding! What started as a column dedicated to chatting with members of the TTRPG community is growing to talk about all things TTRPG. We aim to continue sharing all the things we love about the community and all the content within. So, consider this a little peek into our favorite worlds and creators as we explore everything we love. There is never a lack of tabletop games to dive into, but that doesn't stop us from scrolling Kickstarter to find our next obsession. And July's showing up in style. From fast-paced card games to much-needed dungeon master support, we have four Kickstarters you need to keep your eyes on. RELATED: Board Game Review – Fallout Factions: Battle for Nuka-World Starter Set Hide the Body Kicking off our list is Tray and Jennifer Green's Hide the Body . Every player at the table is a villain with one goal: to hide the bodies. The card game features fast-paced play as everyone attempts to dispose of the body cards in their hand and avoid the attention of the inspector and cadaver dog. We love bringing card games to family get-togethers and vacations, and the faster the gameplay, the better. Learn more about Hide the Body on the official Kickstarter page. Riddles & Mysteries No tabletop RPG playthrough is complete without a good riddle to challenge your table. But sometimes coming up with one is more challenging than solving it. This is why we love Riccardo Pancani's Riddles & Mysteries: 100 Enigmas for D&D Adventurers . This takes all the creation stress off the dungeon master by equipping them with not only the riddle and answer, but also fun ways to incorporate them into the story itself. Learn more about Riddles & Mysteries: 100 Enigmas for D&D Adventurers on the official Kickstarter page. RELATED: July's Most Anticipated Video Games Charred Heaven Next is Harvestfall Studios' Charred Heaven . We love mech tabletop RPGs, and we love horror stories. So why wouldn't we love something that merged them? The Kickstarter is to help finalize the core rulebook, commission the game's art and bring this incredible vision to life. This is the debut project from creator Andrew Freeman, and we are excited to see the spectacular game come to life. Learn more about Charred Heaven on the official Kickstarter page. Kryptothera Our final tabletop Kickstarter to keep an eye on for July is Noctilux Games' Kryptothera . In this world, folklore legends are real, and their energy is harnessed to power cities, airships, machines, and much more. But they don't give this energy willingly. Players take on the role of hunters who must brave the wild and outsmart their rivals to bring the energy home. We love how unique this game feels and can't wait to explore this world. Learn more about Kryptothera on the official Kickstarter page. Tavern Talk Thursday: Must Play Board Games To Bring the Summer Vibes

US Homeland Security knew in 2020 Pakistani firm illegally sold satellite images to Pak govt

Colorado is the hub of satellite and geospatial companies. The two major firms from this US state with 'eyes in the sky' that sell their images are Maxar Technologies and Albedo Space. It is important to note that Maxar had later declared BSI Pakistan as a partner. Incidentally, Albedo was founded in 2020 when the criminal case against BSI was already underway in the US courts. Syed's connection to Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and the National Development Complex (NDC), the aerospace and defence agency of Pakistan's Ministry of Defence, was uncovered by the US government's Homeland Security Investigation (HIS). ThePrint has access to the complaint filed by HSI before US Magistrate Judge M David Weisman on 15 September 2020. These agencies are responsible for 'weaponizing nuclear technology through missile development and other means,' read the complaint. New Delhi: Pakistani geospatial firm Business System International Pvt Ltd, purchased satellite images from a Colorado-based company and sold them illegally to the Pakistan government. The firm and its owner, Obaidullah Syed, also made financial dealings and exchanged emails with top officials and agencies directly involved in Pakistan's nuclear weapons programme. 'BSI purchases satellite images from a Colorado-based company and then sells those images to an unspecified arm of the Pakistan government,' read a complaint filed by HSI special agent Jennifer Green. Though Syed was sentenced to a year in federal prison in 2022 for exporting goods and services from the US to the PAEC, his company became a partner with Maxar in 2023. A few months later, orders for satellite images of Pahalgam started appearing on its portal. ThePrint had exclusively reported that there was an unprecedented spike in orders for Pahalgam in February this year, just two months before the terrorist attack that killed 26 civilians. Maxar Technologies spokesperson denied that the orders for the satellite images were placed by BSI. However, hours after ThePrint report was published, the firm was removed from Maxar's partner page. Also read: How Maxar partner fooled US manufactures into aiding Pakistan's nuclear programme Links with Pakistan's nuclear weapons programme A Pakistani-American businessman from Northbrook, a suburb in Illinois, Syed had dealings not just with PAEC but with top government bodies and officials in Pakistan. Between 2006 and 2020, he sent multiple emails to the principal scientific officer of Pakistan's Directorate of Science Division. Employees of BSI Pakistan were also found to be connected with this unnamed officer on social media accounts. During her investigation, Jennifer Green's team found multiple email exchanges between Syed, BSI, and Pakistani officials, the HSI agent wrote in her complaint. The report cited emails confirming monetary exchange with the director of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, the agency that designs and tests high explosives and nuclear weapon parts, and develops solid-fuelled ballistic missiles. It also confirmed BSI's dealings with the National Development Complex (NDC), an aerospace and defence agency of Pakistan's Ministry of Defence responsible for the country's programmes aimed at 'weaponizing nuclear technology through missile development and other means'. 'On or about April 28, 2015, a BSI-Pakistan employee emailed his colleagues a copy of a bank check received from the NDC, which special agents obtained pursuant to a warrant to search another BSI-Pakistan employee email account,' the complaint read. It went on to note that the cheque was made payable to BSI-Pakistan and signed by 'NDC Employee A in his capacity as 'Director General (C&S), National Development Complex, Islamabad'. Maxar Technologies has yet to respond to ThePrint's queries on whether it had conducted any background check on BSI before enrolling a company with a history of federal crime as a partner. The firm has not confirmed whether BSI Pakistan has been officially removed as a partner. (Edited by Ratan Priya)
