Jeremiah Trotter Jr views pressure as a route to new opportunities with the Eagles
New responsibilities and Eagles injuries could crack the door for Jeremiah Trotter. We're entering year two of our discussions about nepotism and the Philadelphia Eagles' roster. Earlier this offseason, it was reported that there might be team interest in Asante Samuel Jr., but so far, the rumors have not led to any real action. That said, it seems more constructive to discuss a franchise legend's son who is already on the roster. It feels damn good to see the number 54 jersey on defense and know it belongs to Jeremiah Trotter Jr. This is Junior Axe Man. To most, he needs no introduction. His father was a big deal in midnight green. How fitting is it that his young lad was a proud member of Philadelphia's 2024 NFL Draft class? Some of us met him when we saw Dad holding him in his arms. The rest of the contingent may have met him during a successful run with the Clemson Tigers. Trotter Jr. enters his second Eagles training camp. Things seem to be going well. He appears to be making progress and has taken on a new responsibility that should provide him with more experience. That should benefit him as he walks into another regular season. There is also the injury to Nakobe Dean. He opens camp on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list. After spending most of his rookie season contributing primarily on special teams, Trotter could see more meaningful snaps during games that count, but no one knows what that may look like at this point. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. adds to his palette at Eagles practice Jeremiah Trotter Sr. never won a Super Bowl with the Birds, though he did secure preferred seating at both victory parades. The younger Jeremiah Trotter won football's biggest game during his inaugural NFL season. He played primarily on special teams. One of the questions now is whether he will do so again this season. Most expected that, when he was drafted, 'Junior' would back up Nakobe Dean. No one expected, at that time, that Zack Baun would morph into a First-Team All-Pro. Thank Heaven that he did. It's always great to have as many great players on the roster as possible, but that shoved Trot Jr. further down the depth chart. Then came the selection of Jihaad Campbell during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. That seemingly clouded Trotter's picture even further. It would have seen that he would have tumbled down the depth chart had it not been for injury concerns surrounding Campbell and Dean entering Eagles training camp. Everyone has been in the mix. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has added to the mix of first- and second-year stars. Campbell has gotten snaps with the defense's first team. Trotter has been splitting play-calling duties with Zack Baun during training camp. Both may see significant roles. No one is 100% certain of what those roles are yet, not even Vic Fangio. Thankfully, none of us has to perform the balancing acts.

Eagles' Jeremiah Trotter 'Is On The Trade Block' Per Report
Eagles' Jeremiah Trotter 'Is On The Trade Block' Per Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There are obviously two very distinct concepts co-existing - but destined to clash - when it comes to Jeremiah Trotter Jr. Advertisement First, there is this ... When offseason workouts began, it became quite clear that the Philadelphia Eagles had a major conundrum at linebacker. All-Pro Zack Baun is ready for his second season with the team, but the question of who plays beside him continued to be a mystery. Last year's starter, Nakobe Dean, is still recovering from a torn patellar tendon. He suffered the injury in Philadelphia's 22-10 win in the wild card round of the playoffs. Philadelphia drafted linebacker Jihaad Campbell with the 31st overall pick in the 2025 draft, and he is a down-the-road answer, but he's not there yet. The issue with Campbell? He is dealing with shoulder and knee injuries that will keep him out until the middle of August. Advertisement That left 2024 late-round pick Trotter to take first team reps with Baun at linebacker. Trotter is a name brand in Philadelphia. The son of the former Eagles legend of the same name, Trotter was a key special-teams player in his first season with the organization last year. The fact that both father and son were able to celebrate a Super Bowl title together made the decision to draft him out of Clemson last year all the sweeter. So ... the job is his? Wait a moment. One Eagles site is suggesting that Trotter is "still on the trade block,'' and is painting an unflattering picture of the situation. They write ... Advertisement "Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is one player whom the Eagles could look to trade this summer. ... If the Eagles don't want Trotter to get lost in the logjam, a trade might be the best solution to this issue. Philadelphia could potentially get a fifth- or sixth-round pick. ...'' So he's a borderline starter? Or he's playing solely on special teams? We're not sure the media has this quite figured out yet. We trust that defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has a plan on the field and that GM Howie Roseman has the same upstairs. Rookie Linebacker Already Earning Comparisons to Eagles Legends
Rookie Linebacker Already Earning Comparisons to Eagles Legends originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Eagles have a rich tradition of producing defensive legends, and rookie linebacker Jihaad Campbell is already being mentioned alongside some of the franchise's greatest players before even stepping foot on an NFL field. When you're getting compared to Eagles icons before your first practice, that's when you know expectations are sky-high. Advertisement FOX Sports NFL Draft analyst Rob Rang drew a compelling comparison between Campbell and former Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, noting that until Zack Baun's breakout season, Trotter was the last Eagles off-ball linebacker to earn Pro Bowl honors. The comparison makes perfect sense when you consider Campbell's versatility and athleticism. What makes this comparison particularly fitting is how both players bring that multi-dimensional skill set that defensive coordinators love. Trotter accumulated 12.5 sacks, 50 pass deflections, and nine interceptions during his 11-season career, showcasing exactly the type of well-rounded production the Eagles hope to see from Campbell. General manager Howie Roseman clearly fell in love with Campbell's ability to impact the game in multiple ways. The Alabama product can stop the run, rush the passer, and cover tight ends—making him an ideal fit for Vic Fangio's defensive scheme. It's reminiscent of how former defensive coordinator Jim Johnson utilized Trotter in his aggressive, blitz-heavy system. Campbell has also drawn comparisons to former Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier from other analysts, with both players sharing similar athleticism and playmaking ability. At 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, Campbell posted impressive combine numbers, finishing in the 89th percentile or better among linebackers in key athletic categories. Advertisement The personal connection Campbell has to the Eagles franchise adds another layer to this story. Growing up in South Jersey as an Eagles fan, Campbell idolized Brian Dawkins and appreciates the intensity and aggression the Hall of Fame safety brought to the game. Campbell has said he tries to bring that same "tenacity" and "competitive nature" to his own play. There's even some family irony in the Trotter comparison. Jeremiah Trotter Jr., the son of the Eagles legend, is also on the roster as an inside linebacker and has been getting first-team reps while Campbell recovers from shoulder surgery. The two could end up competing for playing time or potentially playing together in certain packages. Campbell was rated as a top-10 player on the Eagles' draft board, which explains why they were willing to trade up with Kansas City to secure him at pick 31. The organization clearly sees him as a cornerstone piece for their defense moving forward. The real test will come when the pads go on, but having analysts already drawing parallels to franchise legends before Campbell has played a single snap speaks volumes about the impact he's expected to make in Philadelphia. Chiefs coach Andy Reid 'grateful' for Super success
February 4 - NEW ORLEANS -- Andy Reid recognizes longevity as a running mate in his sustained success with the Kansas City Chiefs as he prepares the team for a third consecutive Super Bowl. And he admits he can't hide from it given the evidence on the opponent's roster on Sunday. Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is the son of one of Reid's former players in Philadelphia, linebacker Jeremiah Trotter. "It just means I'm old," Reid said with a chuckle Tuesday morning at the Marriott to open media availability for the Chiefs. "Jeremiah Trotter was one of my favorite players. Jeremiah Jr. is wearing the same number (54) and has done a good job taking his success from Clemson and transferring it to the Eagles." Reid and the Chiefs will practice Wednesday through Friday as the buildup to Sunday night and Super Bowl LIX. Reid is facing his former employer for the second time on the NFL's brightest stage. "I have a ton of respect for the people over there and how they run things, city of Philadelphia, but at the same time I'm very happy to be in Kansas City," Reid said, adding he's "grateful" for the opportunity he received from the Chiefs. "It's unique for sure, really unique to have it gone on twice here. I can tell you from my standpoint, I feel very lucky, honored, privileged. I feel very luck to be in this position." The Chiefs have distanced themselves from the gravity of discussions around a history-making, dynasty-defining three-peat. Reid continued his message focused on the task in front of the team this week, saying, "We're not done. We're going to have our hands full with a really good Eagles team." Reid and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes are a combined 17-3 in the playoffs. While Reid credited locker room leaders and continuity with the coaching staff for Kansas City avoiding complacency and climbing back to the NFL mountaintop three years in a row, players pointed to Reid. "To me, it starts with Coach Reid, he sets the tone," Mahomes said. "It's awesome to be in the Super Bowl, but we have to put in the work every single day."

Eagles great Jeremiah Trotter 'extremely proud' of son heading to Super Bowl LIX with 'same number, same team'
Super Bowl LIX will be a family affair for former Philadelphia Eagles great Jeremiah Trotter, who will get to watch as his son Jeremiah Trotter Jr. takes the field in his rookie season against the Kansas City Chiefs, sporting the same number for the same team in his first big game. "I'm extremely proud of him, just living out his dreams and being able to go to the Super Bowl his rookie season is just exciting," the former All-Pro linebacker told "Good Morning America" on Wednesday. "Wearing the same number I wore for the same team, it's truly a blessing to see him out there doing his thing," he added. Trotter Sr., also known as the "Axe Man," holds the Eagles' record for most career tackles by a linebacker with 371 before he was enshrined in the team's Hall of Fame in 2016. In addition to the obvious familial similarities on and off the field, Trotter Jr.'s inaugural Super Bowl matchup is not dissimilar from that of his dad's. The Eagles will once again face a dynasty team with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, much like Trotter Sr. did in Super Bowl XXXIX against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, who at the time were defending champs on the heels of consecutive Super Bowl wins. "It's gonna be a tough challenge. But they're built for this type of football. They run the football real well, playing great defense, and they don't turn the football over," Trotter Sr. told "GMA." "They're playing really good football. I like our chances." The former player reflected on a now-viral photo of post-game celebrations holding his son on the field after winning the NFC Championship title in 2005. "I can't pick him up [anymore] -- I think I could still set him on my knee," Trotter Sr. said with a laugh. "Time flies. It's just great to see those guys out there. It's gonna be a fun weekend for sure." Eagles great Jeremiah Trotter 'extremely proud' of son heading to Super Bowl LIX with 'same number, same team' originally appeared on
