Winger Jeremy Sarmiento set to leave Brighton on permanent deal before end of transfer window
Jeremy Sarmiento is set to leave Brighton & Hove Albion on a permanent deal before the summer transfer window closes at the start of September. The Ecuador winger has attracted interest from clubs in South America, but he wants to stay in Europe. His current contract with Brighton runs until June 2027, with an option for the club for a further year. Advertisement Sarmiento has been loaned out to Championship clubs in the past two seasons. The 23-year-old helped Ipswich to promotion to the Premier League in the second half of 2023-24 with three goals in 20 appearances, repeating the feat on a season-long loan with Burnley in the 2024-25 campaign (four goals in 35 league games). He also had a spell at West Bromwich Albion in the second tier in the first part of 2023-24, scoring twice in 20 league outings. Sarmiento has not been able to establish himself as a first team regular since joining Brighton from Charlton Athletic four years ago. The former England youth international, born in Spain, made the last of 21 senior appearances for the south-coast club as a substitute in August 2024, before departing for Burnley. He featured as a second half substitute under Fabian Hurzeler in a 2-0 win against Championship side Coventry City behind closed doors at the training centre in Lancing on Saturday. Sarmiento's proposed exit will sever Brighton's ties with players from Ecuador. They had three members of the Ecuador squad that reached the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, including Sarmiento. Moises Caicedo was sold to Chelsea in August 2023 and Pervis Estupinan moved to AC Milan on Thursday. Sarmiento has made 24 appearances for Ecuador.

'Players must brush off heavy defeats and focus on Saints showdown'
The run-in starts here. There are 15 games to go - 15 games for Ipswich to secure their Premier League status for another weekend's game against Southampton is the club's biggest of the season to date. Many will look at the table and believe a win is a foregone conclusion, but that is not how the Premier League April produced one of the most dramatic and memorable matches at Portman Road for decades as Ipswich ran out 3-2 winners over the Saints with a 97th-minute winner from Jeremy Sarmiento - a young South American loanee from year's young South American loanee from Brighton gave a moment of optimism on a difficult afternoon at Anfield as Julio Enciso curled an inswinging corner onto the head of Jacob Greaves for a 90th-minute games against Manchester City and Liverpool have knocked confidence but the players must brush off these two heavy defeats and focus on the task in hand. Southampton will not be easy, no games at this level be only one point from safety after facing City and Liverpool is a positive, but with Everton picking up successive wins under David Moyes, Town now find themselves in a four-team mini-league. Leicester's victory at Tottenham was unhelpful, but there will be plenty more twists and average of 34 points has been enough for survival across the past 10 seasons. Ipswich will need to find 18 from the remaining games to secure this total. This will mean a points-per-game improvement from 0.69 to this is why next Saturday looks so critical - a chance to reset, get three points on the board and find some confidence with a more from Seb Brown at the Blue Monday Podcast, external
