District judge Sonal Patil to participate in Pune's 13th LGBTIQA Pride Walk
On Sunday, Sonal Patil, District Judge and Secretary of Pune District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Dr Sanvi Jethwani, Co-Vice President of Maharashtra State Board for Protection of Transgender Rights and Welfare, will walk along with thousands at the 13th edition of LGBTIQA Pride March in Pune. This year, the march is being jointly organised by the District Legal Services Authority and Yutak Charitable Trust. Anil Ukaranade, founder director of Yutak Charitable Trust, said the presence of dignitaries such as Dr Jethwani and Patil is to bring the legal rights of the community to the mainstream. 'Of late, we have seen increased attacks on members of the community. Be it blackmailing of gay men, or transgenders not being given their rights, there is an uptick in such cases,' he said. Ukarande said the District Legal Services Authority provides legal aid to people who are not able to afford the legal costs. 'However, many in the community do not know of this,' he said. Yutak's collaboration with the DLSA is aimed at spreading awareness and urging the community to seek legal aid if necessary. Ukarande highlighted the numerous cases they had handled previously involving the transgender community. 'It's very important that the community gets to know of this resource,' he said. 'At the end of the day, it is the government that has to implement the schemes and formulate the same. We have seen if we work in silos there are gaps. When Dr Jethwani walks with us it is more than symbolic – it's is important that the community keeps all channels open for formulation of policies for them,' he said. Sonal Patil said DLSA Pune is organising the Pride Walk to promote awareness, acceptance, and legal rights. 'As the Secretary of District Legal Services Authority, Pune, proudly support the LGBTQA community's quest for equality and inclusivity,' she said. Protyush Borgohain, director of Digital Enterprise Platforms at Kohler Co, would also be the co-grand marshal. Previously, the Chief Election Commissioner of Maharashtra had led the march and was also a joint organizer. Dr Jethwani told The Indian Express that Pride is not just a celebration but a strong assertion of visibility, dignity, and the demand for equality for the community. 'Such events are essential to highlight the presence, struggles, and contribution of queer individuals from all walks of life,' she said. Last week, during the Thane Pride, members of a political party had tried to disrupt the event, which, Dr Jethwani said, was due to a lack of awareness and acceptance. 'One should look into the heart of people. They should rise beyond caste, creed, religion, etc,' she said. The Pride this year will start from Abhinav Chowk on Bajirao Road at 4.30 pm. This would be the first time since its inception the march has changed its route. Ukarande said this was done to ensure more visibility in the core city areas as well as to avoid traffic issues on FC and JM Road. IPS officers get relief in actress Jethwani's case
Vijayawada: Two IPS officers - Kanti Rana Tata and Vishal Gunni, and former ACP K Hanumantha Rao got some relief in the film actress Kadambari Jethwani's forgery document case. The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday gave orders not to take further action on these suspended police officers in the forgery case of the Jethwani. These officers are facing charges that they illegally arrested actress Jethwani. She lodged a complaint to the Vijayawada police that she was illegally arrested and harassed by the Vijayawada police including some IPS officers in 2023. Later, the NDA government took action against the former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu, two IPS officers Kanta Rana Tata, the former commissioner of police, Vijayawada, and Vishal Gunni the former DCP of Vijayawada. Kanti Rana, Vishal Gunni, former ACP K Hanumantha Rao and Circle Inspector M Satyanarayana filed a petition in the High Court alleging that their suspension was illegal and filed a petition for anticipatory bail. Counsel on behalf of the suspended police officers told the AP High Court that the police officers had performed their duty on the instructions of the higher authorities. They said investigation of the accused is not a crime and the IPS officers should get anticipatory bail. The AP High Court on Thursday continued the hearing and issued interim orders not to take further action against these police officers and posted the petition for further hearing for June 30. Senior advocates S Sriram, Vemulapati Pattabhi and Vinod Kumar Pandey argued on behalf of the police officers. They said performing the duties as per the instructions of the higher officers is not a crime. Jethwani had alleged that the Vijayawada police illegally detained and harassed her in a forgery case. It may be recalled that former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu was arrested by the CID and sent to judicial remand. He has been under suspension for the past few months.

Andhra Home Minister slams Jagan Reddy's party after senior officer's arrest
Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha launched a scathing attack on the Opposition YSRCP, asserting that the TDP-led alliance government was unwavering in its commitment to uphold the law. She said the government would ensure that those who violated the law are brought to justice, regardless of their status or comments came after the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested suspended senior police officer and former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu from Hyderabad on Tuesday over his alleged role in harassing Mumbai-based actor-model Kadambari Jethwani. advertisementAnjaneyulu is one of three IPS officers—alongside Vishal Gunni and Kanthi Ratan Tata—who were suspended for allegedly 'hastily arresting' and 'harassing' Jethwani during the previous YSRCP regime without proper investigation. While top police officials remained tight-lipped, sections of the media and the ruling TDP stated that Anjaneyulu had been arrested. The TDP, in a post on X, said: 'IPS officer PSR Anjaneyulu has been arrested for harassing a woman (Jethwani) under the directions of (former CM and YSRCP chief) Jagan Reddy, mobilising the entire government machinery.'The party accused Anjaneyulu of aligning with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy while serving as the intelligence chief, and added that the harassment of the model was a 'known fact'. According to the TDP, the previous government used all its might to subdue Jethwani and compel her to 'submit', while the current government was 'doing justice' to her. An inquiry into the matter had earlier led to the suspension of the three officials, and the arrest of YSRCP leader Kukkala Vidyasagar. With Anjaneyulu's reported arrest, the TDP reiterated its commitment to Anitha, responding to YSRCP's criticism over the arrest, strongly criticised the Opposition for what she termed as 'hypocrisy and double standards', stating, 'Those who broke the law during the previous regime are now facing the consequences. We're not arresting anyone without evidence. This government works transparently.'She further challenged the YSRCP to engage in self-reflection and examine why officials who served under their administration are currently facing action. Drawing comparisons with the past, she added, 'Even honest officers like Sri Lakshmi were jailed during Jagan's rule. TDP leaders were hounded with fake cases then. Today, not a single official has been arrested due to our pressure—that alone proves our integrity."With inputs from PTITrending Reel IN THIS STORY#Andhra Pradesh
