Lions training camp medical preview: Tight ends

Tight end may be the least medically-concerning position on the team. Last season, the Lions kept three TE's on the initial 53-man roster (Sam LaPorta, Brock Wright, Parker Hesse). Here is the list of TE's starting with the players with the biggest medical question marks entering the season. Ages are at the start of the season. #1: Kenny Yeboah - 26yo Last season with the Jets, he only played nine games due to a possible core muscle injury. In previous seasons, he's had hamstring and calf issues. He was limited at June OTA which raises eyebrows as core muscle injuries sometimes end up needing surgery. In good news, Yeboah was not placed on PUP at the start of camp which means he's healthy. Projection: There is a chance he starts on PUP if there's a disturbance in his health this offseason. If he stays off PUP, he has a good chance to make 53-man roster, as the Lions gave him $482k in guaranteed money for this year. #2: Sam LaPorta - 24yo LaPorta recently revealed that he had ankle surgery in the 2024 offseason. The 2025 offseason has been better as he got married and was blessed by the new Pope. Medically, the 2025 offseason has been surgery-free despite some minor injuries over the course of last season. He had a hamstring in camp, a right low ankle sprain in Week 3, and a left AC joint in Week 10. The AC cost him his only missed game of the season. Projection: LaPorta hits the ground running and solidifies himself as an elite TE. #3: Brock Wright - 26yo Last year was a fully healthy one for Wright with no missed games. The year prior, he had a forearm fracture and a hip injury which don't seem to be a concern now. Projection: Wright has been a solid player for the Lions the past four years and continues to be that. #4: Shane Zylstra - 28yo Zylstra had a possible neck issue last season which ended up being nothing serious. Otherwise, he was healthy throughout the year. He does have a history of an MCL sprain and patella fracture, but those aren't concerns now. Projection: If it comes down to Yeboah vs Zylstra for the third spot, Zylstra may lose out due to the lack of guarantees in his contract. #5: Zach Horton - 22yo Horton is an undrafted rookie from Indiana who started every game in his final college season. Projection: Practice squad would be an excellent outcome. #6: Luke Deal - 24yo Deal is an undrafted rookie who was reliable throughout his Auburn college career. Projection: Maybe Deal can surprise and earn himself a roster spot.

Should the Jets consider trade for Bengals' Trey Hendrickson?

Long-term extension talks between the #Bengals and star Trey Hendrickson broke down over guaranteed money before camp… and Hendrickson has now indicated he left the just posted this on Instagram. Cincinnati Bengals superstar pass rusher Trey Hendrickson is officially holding out from training camp. The Bengals, like most teams, reported to camp on Tuesday. Hendrickson decided to stay away, leaving the state of Ohio for Jacksonville, Florida. The two sides are at an impasse over guaranteed money, per reports. If the Bengals can't satisfy Hendrickson, trading him is the alternative. Should the New York Jets have interest in the former FAU standout, who led the NFL in sacks last season with 17.5 takedowns? He's been among the premier pass rushers in the NFL. Hendrickson has recorded a haunting 35 sacks over the previous two campaigns. The Jets have question marks at EDGE. Third-year pro Will McDonald IV is attempting to build on a sophomore breakout season that saw him amass 10.5 sacks in 2024. Meanwhile Jermaine Johnson II is beginning camp on the PUP after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 2 last year. The Jets have little depth there, with Micheal Clemons and fifth-round rookie Tyler Baron being relied on to provide quality rotational snaps. Hendrickson would immediately become the Jets' best pass rusher, but their timelines ultimately don't align. Jets GM Darren Mougey remains in the early stages of what could be a lengthy roster rebuild. Meanwhile Hendrickson is a soon-to-be-31-year-old pass rusher looking for an extremely lucrative long-term deal. Mougey has the money and capital to make it work, but it wouldn't make sense for a multi-year project.

Jamal Adams signs with Raiders to reunite with Pete Carroll

Former Jets defensive back Jamal Adams has found a new NFL home. The three-time Pro Bowl safety is reuniting with former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll on the Raiders, the team announced Tuesday. Adams played with Carroll for four years after being traded to the Seahawks in 2020. 4 Jamal Adams in 2019. Getty Images It's been a winding pro journey since the safety began his NFL career with the Jets in 2017 after he was selected sixth overall in that year's draft. While in New York, Adams was an integral part of Gang Green's secondary, recording 273 tackles, 12 sacks, and two interceptions over three seasons, getting an All-Pro nod in 2019. Nevertheless, in the 2019 offseason, he requested a trade away from the organization as he sought an extension that the Jets were not willing to give. On top of that, he became frustrated with the team and called out Jets leadership — from ownership to the front office. Last year, Adams said he matured and realized he did not handle his Jets exit in the best way when he reflected on his New York experience. '[Jets] fans, I didn't know I hurt 'em like that,' he said. 'I didn't realize I had that much impact. And then obviously the older I got, I started to realize, 'Bro, you had it all. You had it all besides the winning. Everything else, you had it all. Anything a player could ask for.' But it didn't work out for me. I asked for the trade out. And if I look back on it now, I would tell myself, 'Don't make an emotional decision.' Bill Kostroun/New York Post The Jets finally granted Adams a move away from the organization in July 2020 with a deal to the Seahawks in return for two first-round picks. Unfortunately for Adams, this is when injuries began to hamper his career. During his time in Seattle, he never played more than 12 games in a season. In 2022, things hit a low point when Adams had to leave the first game of the season in the second quarter after a quad injury. It held him out of the rest of the season. 4 Jamal Adams while with the Seahawks. Getty Images And after one more season in 2023, Adams was then let go by the Seahawks in March 2024. Jets' journey back to football heaven begins with big-ticket trio

All three were top 10 draft picks, all three joined the Jets with wide-eyed optimism, all three have earned their big-ticket contracts. But all three have been trapped inside the football hell of a franchise engulfed in a 14-year playoff drought, the wasted Zach Wilson Years, the Aaron Rodgers Super Bowl Hail Mary, the untimely firing of Robert Saleh … All three are desperate to experience football heaven, and for Aaron Glenn and Justin Fields to pilot the Jets to long-lost stratospheric heights, they will need all three to be the brightest of shining stars. To whom much is given, much is expected.
