The new river cruises from Southend Pier taking passengers to 'Dickens country'
NEW day-trip cruises are setting sail from Southend Pier this summer taking passengers back in time to "Dickens country". New for 2025, Jetstream Tours is offering trips to Rochester in Kent, allowing daytrippers to walk in the cobbled street of historic Rochester, visit the best kept example of Norman architecture at Rochester's historic castle, pop into Rochester's Cathedral or have a spot of lunch. "This day out visiting Rochester will allow you to discover the historic relevance of the River Medway, sailing past Chatham Dockyard and Upnor Castle," the boat tour company explains. "Our commentary along the way will point out more than just what you can see but allow you uncover relics of the deep, stories of battles and rebuilding. "Hop into history with one of our most exciting tours yet." This month, cruises are setting of from the end of the pier on Sunday, July 13, and Sunday, July 27. Cruises are scheduled next month on Sunday, August 10, and Sunday, August 24, as well as the first Sunday of September. For tickets, visit Ticket prices include access on to the pier and use of the pier train. Onboard facilities include a bar, selling soft drinks and light snacks. The duration of the cruise totals five hours, at a cost of £28 per adult, £26 for OAPs, and £22 for a child ticket. It also offers family tickets for £85. Children under three can board for free but must have a ticket.

Popular summer cruises return to Southend Pier with new trip to historic town
MORE sightseeing cruises are coming to Southend Pier as a river tour operator has added new summer dates to its calendar. Jetstream Tours, which offers river cruises from the landmark pleasure pier, has announced new dates for its exciting sightseeing adventures. This includes trips to the historic Redsand army forts in the estuary, and quaint fishing village Queenborough. Also new for 2025 is a Rochester day-trip, where visitors can enjoy the town's Dickensian high streets, have a spot of lunch and have a browse in the shops. This day out also allows daytrippers to discover the historic relevance of the River Medway, sailing past Chatham Dockyard and Upnor Castle. Commentary along the way will point out more than just what you can see but allow you uncover relics of the deep, stories of battles and rebuilding. A Jetstream Tours spokesman said: "New dates have now been added to our website for July and August. Limited September also available. Here are all of the river cruises setting off from Southend Pier this year
With the weather warming up and sights to be seen, the Echo have compiled a list of all the river cruises setting off from Southend Pier this year. Plenty of cruises will be on offer from operators Waverley Excursions and Jetstream Tours to explore the River Thames. Residents will be able to enjoy day trips on the historic Waverley ship along the River Blackwater, River Medway, and the Thames. The Waverley trips will return on September 24 and last until October 12. Meanwhile, Jetstream Tours will offer a variety of different experiences to enjoy. Rochester Day Trip With this trip, you will be able to walk the cobbled street of historic Rochester, and see Rochester's historic Castle, and Cathedral. You will also be able to explore the River Medway, sailing past Chatham Dockyard and Upnor Castle. Redsand Towers Tour This cruise will see you go from Southend Pier to the Eerie World War 2 Maunsel Forts, called the Red Sand Towers. It will take about an hour to reach the Towers, with the boat passing by the Mulbury Harbour (Pheonix unit) and Shoebury Boom before crossing the shipping channel towards the Isle of Sheppey. Upon return, it will pass via the SS. Richard Montgomery before crossing back towards Southend Pier. Lunch in Kent You will be able to venture out to Queenborough to explore Kent and enjoy some lunch. Those taking off on the cruise will be treated to a fully commentated with information about the history of the Thames, Medway, and Swale.
