Asia's 50 Best Bars 2025: 5 Singapore bars make the list, a drop from last year's 11, Lifestyle News

The results of Asia's 50 Best Bars 2025 are out, and while several of our local bars have done us proud once again, the number of Singapore-based establishments on the list this year has dropped compared to last year's. In 2024, Singapore had 11 bars listed while this year saw five making the cut. During the awards ceremony in Macau on Tuesday (July 15), it was announced that Jigger & Pony, located in Amara Singapore, had retained its position at No. 3 on the list for the second year running. The other four bars that made the top 50 are Offtrack at No. 23, which moved up from No. 25 last year; Nutmeg & Clove at No. 24, which dropped from No. 6; Cat Bite Club at No. 44, which moved up from No. 77; and finally, Native at No. 45, a drop from No. 31. Five of the bars that were on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2024 list have dropped to the extended 51 to 100 list. These are Sago House at No. 56 (from No. 15), Origin Bar at No. 60 (from No. 32), Night Hawk at No. 77 (from No. 16), Employees Only at No. 89 (from No. 38) and Fura at No. 95 (from No. 42). Atlas, which was ranked No. 49 last year, was not on the top 50 or extended 51 to 100 list. The remaining Singapore bar on the extended 51 to 100 list is Side Door at No. 53. Last year, Singapore had eight bars on the extended 51 to 100 list, and this year, we have six. Hong Kong's Bar Leone at No. 1 Topping the Asia's 50 Best Bars 2025 list is Bar Leone, which hails from Hong Kong. Other bars at in the top five are Zest from Seoul (No. 2), Bar Us from Bangkok (No. 4) and Dry Wave Cocktail Studio (No. 5), which also is from Bangkok. With seven bars listed, Bangkok has the most bars in the top 50. Hong Kong follows closely with six bars on the list. The Asia's 50 Best Bars list is organised by UK-based media group William Reed and is the regional edition of The World's 50 Best Bars. The annual rankings are decided by votes from the Asia's 50 Best Bars Academy. The full list can be seen on The World's 50 Best website. Next up is The World's 50 Best Bars awards, which will take place in Hong Kong on Oct 8.

Asia's 50 Best Bars 2025: Five Singapore bars are in the top 50 this year

The verdict is in, and five Singapore bars have done the city proud in last night's announcement of Asia's 50 Best Bars in Wynn Palace, Macau. That's six down from last year, where we saw 11 bars in Singapore sweep the scoreboard. This year, we're overtaken by Bangkok and Hong Kong, which have seven and six bars on the list, respectively. The Singapore bars on this year's ranking are, in order: Jigger & Pony at No. 3 Offtrack at No. 23 Nutmeg & Clove at No. 24 Cat Bite Club at No. 44 Native at No. 45 Once again, industry giant Jigger & Pony is crowned The Best Bar in Singapore and third in Asia – that's seven years straight of appearing in Asia's 50 Best Bars' top 10 ranking. Most recently, it released its latest menu, Embrace, which is all about embracing change, tradition, and oneself. Meanwhile, Offtrack (a new entrant in 2024) steadies its reign with a modest climb from No. 25 to No. 23. The vinyl-friendly bar is known for its solid music programming, fun, laidback atmosphere and pan-Asian grub. There's also hidden agave powerhouse Cat Bite Club, which crawls up a whopping 34 spots from No. 77 last year to No. 44 this year. Some sobering news for bar industry veterans Nutmeg & Clove and Native: Nutmeg & Clove slips from its cushy No. 6 spot to No. 24 this year, while Native falls from No. 31 to No. 45 this year – both still respectable rankings that secure their spots among the world's best. Now, you may be curious about the top spots. Earning cheers all around last night, Bar Leone retains its No. 1 title for the second year in a row. The Hong Kong neighbourhood bar slings classic Italian cocktails that are as understated as they are delish. Next comes Seoul's trendy Zest, holding steady at No. 2. More excitingly, Bangkok's Bar Us leaps 17 spots to No. 4, surpassing BKK Social Club, which was the city's best bar last year. Despite some major reshuffles for Singapore, our city still fared well overall in this round of Asia's 50 Best Bars. Earlier this month, we saw six bars enter the 51-100 ranking, making us the Asian city with the most bars on the extended list. All in, Singapore clocks out with 11 bars across the full 1-100 list – a feat definitely worth raising a glass to. Check out the full Asia's 50 Best Bars list below:

PHOTO: ROSEMEAD/INSTAGRAM SINGAPORE – American grill restaurant Rosemead and rum bar Sugarhall, both of which are owned by Jigger & Pony Group, will close their doors on July 26. The two establishments are located in the same heritage building at 19 Cecil Street, and opened in December 2021 and March 2022 respectively. The announcements were made on their respective Instagram accounts. Sugarhall will be making way for a new concept that is still under development, the group's deputy marketing director Emily Seow told The Straits Times. Meanwhile, an offer had come in to take over the ground floor space currently taken up by Rosemead, 'The rest of our venues are doing well, and we are looking to expand with another new concept,' added Ms Seow. The group also owns Jigger & Pony at Amara Hotel in Tanjong Pagar and Live Twice in Bukit Pasoh. Jigger & Pony has consistently been Singapore's top-ranked bar in the Asia's Best Bars and World's Best Bars rankings in the last five years. The closures of Rosemead and Sugarhall follow a flurry of closures in the bar scene over the last few months. These include Ballroom by Barbary Coast in North Canal Road and Junior The Pocket Bar in Ann Siang Hill, and multi-concept restaurant bar 1939 in Keong Saik Road. Private members' club 1880 suddenly closed its doors on June 17. Then on June 26, The Dragon Chamber in Circular Road announced it will end operations on Aug 2 'as we hunt for a new lair'. Wine bar RVLT will serve its last glass on July 12. Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.
