Rockets readying for first state title game in 25 years
ROBINSON, Texas (FOX 44) — Nothing comes easy to Robinson softball in the postseason but with a 'Rockets never quit' mentality, Robinson continues their launch to the top of the 4A scene as the Rockets prepare for their first state title game appearance since 1999 on Friday. 'That was kind of our goal and we're here,' Robinson head softball coach Jimmy Eby said. 'They've been getting ready for it. Now, when we get to Austin and we get in front of 2,000 people, it's going to be a little overwhelming. So, when we met yesterday, I told them, be ready for that.' The Rockets continue to battle in the postseason. After a 27-game win streak came to a close against Ingleside in game one of the 4A DII State Semifinal last week, the Rockets rallied to take down the Lady Mustangs in the next two games to book their spot in the championship game. 'They fight but the other thing is we've really been playing as a team and as a cohesive unit,' Eby said. Battling back to take down the Lady Mustangs and hopefully make history for Rockets softball in front of a Robinson crowd that's shown support through the entire run. 'It means the world to us,' Robinson junior center fielder Reese Tate said. 'We have such a great community behind us at our games. It means a lot to us and helped us get to this point.' 'I think it's going to be crazy,' Robinson junior catcher Isabelle Mathis said. 'Our fans are going to come out and they're going support, they're going to be loud and it's going to be fun.' Robinson faces Aubrey in the 4A DII State Softball Championship on Friday, May 29th at 10:00 a.m. at Red & Carline McCombs Field in Austin. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
