Community support workers among NZ's lowest paid
They are among New Zealand's lowest paid employees. The wages of home and community support workers, who look after the country's elderly, typically max out about $29 an hour. They also use their own vehicles to travel between jobs and, while they're reimbursed for that, it's at an amount significantly less than IRD recommends for personal vehicle use. The issue was part of a pay equity claim by the female dominated workforce, who consider themselves underpaid in comparison to those dominated by men. That's now off the table after the government changed the law last month. Jimmy Ellingham reports. To embed this content on your own webpage, cut and paste the following: See terms of use.

'Levin invasion' reaction to government's tough talk on boyracers
A crowd of 1000 people and 200 cars filled the Horowhenua town of Levin just over three weeks ago, doing burnouts and other anti-social activity that caused a public outcry and large police response. Meanwhile, the mother of a woman killed during illegal street racing has a simple plea for those involved in such activities: stop, now. Jimmy Ellingham reports. Concern Mark Lundy parole board condition impinges
Mark Lundy hasn't been able to speak a word publicly since he was released from prison early last month. That's because the man twice convicted of murdering his wife and daughter in Palmerston North over 20 years ago cannot speak to the media, post on social media or even blog about his case. Given he proclaims his innocence, some experts are concerned that this Parole Board condition impinges on his right to freedom of speech. Jimmy Ellingham reports. Staff rallying to save mental health facility
A mental health facility for some of our most difficult to treat patients has been given a last-minute reprieve ahead of its pending closure. Health NZ has proposed shutting Segar House, a publicly funded intensive programme for people with long-standing or chronic mental health problems. But staff have been rallying to save it, and now more voices are joining those calls, including a former patient. Jimmy Ellingham reports.
