Eagles 'Dream Team' QB Earns All-Time Worst Label

Eagles 'Dream Team' QB Earns All-Time Worst Label originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Eagles have had plenty of star quarterbacks on their roster over the last 25 years, but have also had their share of duds. Advertisement For every Donovan McNabb or Jalen Hurts, there has been a Mike McMahon or Kevin Kolb. (Actually, the ratio is worse than that, but we're being kind.) While there seems to be a legitimate debate about which signal-caller gets the top spot on the franchise's list of best quarterbacks since 2000, Eagles fans can engage in a similarly heated debate regarding who is the worst QB during this stretch. Yes, it's still NFL Listicle Season, and as we're 25 years into the century, it's also "All-Quarter-Century" time. What an honor. Unless ... PhillyVoice's Jimmy Kempski went upside-down and ranked an "Eagles Anti-All Quarter Century team" list and chose quarterback Vince Young as the signal-caller. Advertisement The logic? "Young only started three games for the Eagles, all in 2011. He went 1-2, with 4 TDs and 9 INTs. But he was also the player who called the Eagles a "Dream Team" during 2011 training camp," Kempski said. "In those days, Eagles training camps were still in Lehigh, and the media had a trailer where we wrote up our camp stories. "I can remember reporters hustling to the trailer to write up Young's 'Dream Team' comments before his presser had even ended." Young not productive as a Philadelphia QB, but Kempski is right about how he foolishly went out of his way to put a target on the back of the 2011 Eagles, who never came close to living up to that billing. Advertisement The Texas Longhorns legend and Heisman Trophy winner was once one of the best young quarterbacks in the game; he won Offensive Rookie of the Year in Tennessee. After that, though, Young struggled. And the Eagles were just one of the teams that suffered because of that — both due to his words and his inactions. NFC East Hopes One Stat Dooms Commanders As 'Dumpster Fire'

NFC East Hopes One Stat Dooms Commanders As 'Dumpster Fire' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Few teams in NFL history enjoyed the kind of turnaround that the Washington Commanders engineered for themselves in 2024. Advertisement After a four-win season in 2023, a new coach and quarterback jumpstarted the team capped by their first trip to the conference title game in over three decades. As good as they were, though, the Commanders' brief run with success could be so their foes in the NFC East might wish. Jimmy Kempski, a Philadelphia Eagles beat reporter for PhillyVoice, is publishing his annual "Why (Team X) will be a dumpster fire this season" series as he examines his way through each team in the NFC East. The top identified problem for the Commanders? It's that most few teams that enjoyed that sort of one-year jump struggled mightily to maintain that success the following season. Advertisement "Only the 1996-1998 Jets had an improvement once again after their initial breakout season," Kempski said. "On average, the above teams experienced a decrease of 3.9 wins the following season.'' "And let's be real about those 12 regular-season wins last season, Commanders fans,'' he wrote. "A lot of those were lucky. I mean, we can all admit that, right?" That's a hard opinion. NFC East fans can engage in a barroom brawl argument all offseason about about whether Washington's run was lucky last season. But they can't deny that of the 14 teams that previously enjoyed an eight-win swing from one year to the next, 13 of them saw an average drop in win total of over three games in the ensuing year. Advertisement Now, in fairness to what counts as "good,'' even that dip would still leave Washington with nine wins and a possible playoff berth. But it would undoubtedly make things more difficult for the franchise this season. In the end, the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and the hopeful Dallas Cowboys sure hope Washington becomes a victim of history. Eagles Analyst Predicts Breakout Season From Standout Tackle

Milton Williams was one of the biggest success stories for the Philadelphia Eagles and their recent draft history in recent years. The former third-round pick out of Louisiana Tech became one of the best interior defenders in the league in recent years. Williams' four-year run with the Eagles was so strong that he received the third-largest free agent deal in league history this offseason with the New England Patriots. Advertisement That's ok, though. While Williams is certainly an important loss, the Eagles were prepared for his departure. And the rise of a former seventh-round pick shows just how comfortable Philly was in letting Williams walk. Moro Ojomo wasn't the top tackle taken by the Eagles in the 2022 draft. But the work he has done over the last three years has shown that the team feels he is ready for a significant increase in snaps this season. And PhillyVoice's Jimmy Kempski believes that Ojomo's development shows the Eagles won't miss a beat with the Texas product. "Fangio said that he liked what he saw from Ojomo in 2024 both as a pass rusher and run defender, and Fangio doesn't give BS praise to the media like most coaches do," Kempski said. "He's already a three-down lineman, and yeah, certainly playing next to Carter won't hurt. Advertisement "I think he's got a chance to prove that he can do a lot of the things that Milton could do." A big reason why the Eagles have been consistently great over the last few years is that they have been able to draft top young talent, and replace aging veterans who leave in free agency. Ojomo might just be the next example of that moving forward. Related: Eagles Make Irreplaceable Move Toward Super Bowl Repeat Related: Eagles Preaching Patience With Disappointing Edge Rusher
