Suzuki Jimny facelift incoming: Here are all the key features and upgrades expected

The updated Suzuki Jimny is expected to get ADAS tech along with other feature enhacements Check Offers The globally loved Suzuki Jimny is set to receive a mid-cycle update this August — but instead of cosmetic makeovers or powertrain revisions, the focus this time is squarely on advanced safety technology. The update will first launch in Japan, but many of the improvements have already made their way to the India-spec five-door Jimny Nomade, hinting at what local buyers can expect in future model years. ADAS tech takes centre stage According to reports from Japan, Suzuki will introduce its latest Safety Support suite to both the Jimny and Jimny Sierra variants. This includes the dual-camera autonomous emergency braking system that debuted in India earlier this year, along with enhancements like traffic sign recognition with pause, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Reverse Brake Support for automatic variants. The safety improvements represent a big step forward for the pint-sized off-roader, which has long depended more on mechanical ruggedness than on contemporary electronics. In India, the five-door Jimny already comes equipped with some of those features, and the update may result in more extensive availability or standardization across trims. With demand soaring across global markets, especially for the longer five-door model made in India, Suzuki is prioritising production stability over cosmetic tweaks. In fact, the Jimny Nomade racked up over 50,000 bookings within four days in Japan, equivalent to more than three years of planned output. This decision means the updated Jimny won't feature any new trims, special editions, or styling changes — at least for now. India's role in global Jimny strategy India is an important market for Suzuki's Jimny strategy. The five-door model that is sold in the country is also sold to places like Latin America, Africa, and Australia. With Japan importing the model that's aligned with Indian safety specifications, this is further evidence of the growing importance of Maruti Suzuki India in the company's global supply chain. Company chief Toshihiro Suzuki recently said the model will continue with non-electrified petrol engines, though hybrid technology could be explored for emission-sensitive markets like Europe. The India-spec Jimny will continue with the 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine, paired with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. With this upcoming tech upgrade, the Jimny continues to evolve — carefully, and without compromising its go-anywhere DNA. And as the global lineup updates, Maruti Suzuki could bring similar refinements to the Indian market in the near future. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2025, Best SUVs in India. Suzuki Jimny Nomad (5-Door) Races Past Mercedes-Benz In Japan, But There's A Catch

The Suzuki Jimny is a product of great folklore, ever since its inception. The 4x4 off-roader is celebrated across the world for its off-roading prowess. Thanks to its cult following, it helped the Suzuki Motor Corp to become the top car importer in the country, beating Japan, in June. Interestingly, the Jimny Nomade (5-Door) had the highest demand, with Suzuki importing 4,780 units of the India-built compact SUV to Japan, posting a 230-fold YoY increase, reports Bloomberg. Interestingly, Suzuki managed to overtake Mercedes-Benz's import figures in Japan. Another mind-fascinating fact it - Suzuki got over 50,000 orders within the first few days of the launch. The demand surpasses Suzuki's expectations of selling only a dozen hundred units a month. Resultantly, they had to stop taking orders on the fourth day itself. Coming down to mechanical specifications of the Jimny Nomade, it gets the same 1.5L, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine, belting out a peak power output of 105 Hp and 134 Nm of max torque. It can be paired to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Furthermore, the Jimny comes equipped with solid axles on both ends. There is a low-ratio transfer case part of the pack, along with brake locking axles, amplifying the off-road credentials.

So Many People Want A Four-Door Jimny That Suzuki Had To Close Order Books After Just Four Days

The rugged little Suzuki Jimny, briefly sold in the U.S. as the Suzuki Samurai, was strictly offered as a two door since its introduction in 1970. Suzuki introduced a four-door in some markets like India, South Africa, and Australia in 2023, and Suzuki finally opened the order books for Japanese-market four-door Jimnys on January 30. It was an instant hit, and the company received so many orders that it had to suspend all further orders after being open for just four days. There were around 50,000 orders placed, but the sole manufacturing plant that produces four-door Jimnys can only produce 1,200 units per month so those 50,000 orders back up production for the next 3.5 years. When the Suzuki Jimny was redesigned in 2018 to look like the adorably rugged offspring of a Jeep Wrangler and a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen, the internet went berserk for it. It managed to combine a cute and likeable face with enough off-road machismo to draw affection from all types of people – CarWow video presenter Matt Watson, who has driven hundreds of incredible cars, even bought one for himself. The three-door Jimny is a tiny little truck that has compromised ergonomics, but adding two more doors makes it significantly more appealing to a wider audience, much like the Wrangler's trajectory once Jeep started selling four-door Wranglers. Suzuki Japan issued an apology and explanation on its website, roughly saying, 'The Jimny Nomad has been very well received by many customers and orders have been placed significantly more than the production capacity. Therefore we will suspend orders for the time being.' The sole plant that produces the four-door Jimny Nomade is Suzuki's Gurugram plant in India, and this plant produces all the Jimny Nomades that get exported to countries including Latin America, South Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and now Japan. The Jimny Nomade comes standard with part-time four-wheel-drive with a low-speed transfer case, and it's powered by the same 1.5-liter I4 that produces 103 horsepower and 99 pound-feet of torque as the two-door. It's offered with your choice between either a five-speed manual transmission or, shockingly, a four-speed automatic, and its base price in Japan is 2,651,000 Japanese yen, which converts to about $17,200. The four-door Jimny Nomade costs about $4,500 more than the cheapest two-door Jimny Sierra in Japan. Autocar India clocked a four-door Jimny's 0-to-62 mph time at a pretty friggin' slow 14.59 seconds. Don't worry about how slow it will be on U.S. roads, though, since there are no plans to bring it to the U.S. market. The Jimny Nomade is an adorable, capable, cheap, and now practical little truck that has proven to be very desirable. If Suzuki can increase production and federalize the Jimny Nomade, it would sell like proverbial hotcakes. Until then, I will be busy drooling over Mexican market Jimnys that I occasionally spot on LA roads. For the latest news, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
