Fiber to Future: India's Digital Leap

NewsVoir New Delhi [India], July 18: Bharat Exhibitions proudly concluded the 3rd edition of the Broadband India Summit 2025 today at Hotel Shangri-La, New Delhi, marking a significant milestone in India's digital transformation journey. Held under the compelling theme, "Connecting the Unconnected: Bridging the Gaps with Wireline, Wireless, and Satellite Solutions," the summit brought together the country's most influential policymakers, leading telecom operators, infrastructure enablers, and tech pioneers. With India's broadband landscape rapidly advancing through technologies like Wi-Fi 6/7, Passive Optical Networking (PON), and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, the summit spotlighted the innovations driving ultra-fast connectivity for immersive experiences such as 8K streaming, VR, cloud gaming, and smart homes. More than just a conference, the summit became a dynamic platform to shape policy direction, showcase transformative technologies, ignite partnerships, and power the inclusive vision of Digital India. Chief Guest of the Summit, Shri Vivek Banzal, Director (CFA), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. said in his speech, "BSNL is more than a telecom provider--it's a digital enabler. As India moves toward Broadband for All, BSNL's infrastructure, affordability, and rural reach make it indispensable. Convergence of all technologies is the mantra ahead, we need to reach every nook and corner of the country. This is the only way ahead for our country, India. Indian connectivity, penetrating all geographical boundaries is something that we as operators focus on. When the whole of India is connected, it is connected in the truest sense." Guest of Honour of the Summit, Shri Sanjay Agrawal, Director, Directorate of Coordination Police Wireless (DCPW), Ministry of Home Affairs spoke during his speech, "The Ministry of Home Affairs is embracing this transformation. From digital identity verification to online passport services, broadband is revolutionizing how we deliver public services. Initiatives like PM-WANI and Digital Bharat Nidhi are helping bridge the urban-rural divide by funding infrastructure in underserved areas. As we expand digital access, we must also ensure cybersecurity, data protection, and digital literacy. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 is a step in the right direction. But laws must be matched with awareness and infrastructure." Mr. Puneet Garg, President and Group Wireline CTO, Reliance Jio in his operator keynote address was heard quoting, "In the digital age, connectivity is the cornerstone of progress. Fast, reliable internet is no longer a luxury--it's a necessity. At Jio Fiber, we're proud to be at the forefront of this transformation. Our mission is simple: to deliver world-class broadband to every corner of India. With Jio Fiber and now Jio AirFiber, we're extending our reach to areas where traditional infrastructure cannot, helping bridge the digital divide. Prioritizing health and enabling government-led services, our solutions ensure connectivity even in the most remote parts of the country." Mr. Rahul Vatts, Director - OneWeb India and Chief Regulatory Officer, Bharti Airtel in his operator address was heard quoting, "Satellite broadband is rapidly emerging as a transformative solution for internet connectivity in India, especially in remote and underserved regions. Bharti Airtel is making significant moves in the satellite broadband space in India, positioning itself as a key player through strategic partnerships and joint ventures." Prof. Kiran Kuchi, Founder of WiSig Networks and Professor at IIT Hyderabad, said during the summit, "We are witnessing a convergence of multiple technologies, especially in the infrastructure sector. 5G and Wi-Fi have converged at the network site, which is quite mind-boggling. BharatNet, along with complementary technologies and fiber-to-the-home initiatives, are key to achieving last-mile connectivity." Another speaker, Mr. Sachin Deshpande, CTO, Tata Play Fiber shared in his special address, "Tata Play Fiber is more than a service--it's a commitment to digital empowerment. We're expanding across cities and towns, ensuring that every household, every business, and every learner has access to world-class internet. In today's digital-first world, connectivity is no longer a convenience--it's a necessity. Whether it's a student attending online classes, a professional working remotely, or a family streaming their favorite shows, fast and reliable internet is the backbone of modern life, as network is hygiene. Customer experience is the imperative, so that service capabilities are enhanced, for example incorporation of AI." Shri Manoj Tandon, Director (Project, Operations & Maintenance), RailTel Corporation of India Ltd in his special address said, "What makes broadband connectivity truly impactful is its reach. Over 50% of our RailWire subscribers are from semi-urban and rural areas--regions where traditional broadband often fails to penetrate. We're not just connecting individuals; we're empowering entire communities. Telecom growth fuels national progress--let's work together towards a meaningful broadband mission." "RANext is at the forefront of building digital infrastructure and enabling future-ready connectivity. As smart cities and buildings become the need of the hour in India and globally, what RANext is doing in this context is not just business, but providing connectivity solutions that are paving the way forward for the industry. Netflix may get pricey in 2025! 4 tricks to cut costs on subscription

Netflix Premium plan now costs a steep ₹649/month in India, but you don't need to pay that much to keep up with your favourite shows. If Netflix is part of your daily routine, it's time to rethink how you're paying for it. Streaming Netflix in 2025 doesn't have to drain your wallet, check out these hacks.(Pexels) From smarter subscriptions to sneaky savings tricks, here are 4 ways to cut your Netflix bill in 2025, without cutting down your screen time. 1. Split the subscription price Paying ₹649 a month for Netflix Premium alone? You could be spending more than you need to. The Premium plan allows streaming on up to four devices simultaneously which is perfect for households with multiple users. If you're living with family or roommates, split the cost. Each person pays just a fraction, and everyone still gets full access to their own profile and screen. Just remember: Netflix's rules now require account holders to live in the same household if they're sharing a plan. 2. Cancel during low-usage months Think about how often you use Netflix. If there are dry months with nothing exciting to watch, don't keep the subscription running. Cancel, save the money, and come back when something new drops. Since Netflix doesn't bind you to long-term plans, you can jump in and out whenever you like. This flexibility can easily save you hundreds over the year. 3. Downgrade to a cheaper subscription Still paying ₹649 per month for Netflix Premium? You might be over-subscribed. Netflix offers four plans in India, and each caters to different usage needs. If you're not watching on multiple devices or don't need 4K + HDR, it's time to reconsider what you're paying for. Here's the current lineup: Mobile Plan ( ₹149/month): 480p quality, one device (phone/tablet) Basic Plan ( ₹199/month): 720p HD, one device (any type) Standard Plan ( ₹499/month): Full HD (1080p), two devices Premium Plan ( ₹649/month): 4K + HDR, four devices, spatial audio For solo users or casual watchers, the Basic or even Mobile plan can get the job done at a fraction of the cost. Dropping from Premium to Basic saves ₹450 per month, that's more than ₹5,000 a year. Even downgrading one level from Premium to Standard puts ₹150 back in your pocket monthly without sacrificing Full HD resolution. Netflix subscription prices in India.(Netflix) To switch plans, log into your Netflix account, go to your profile icon > Account > Change Plan. The update usually kicks in from your next billing cycle. 4. Check for streaming bundles with your internet or mobile provider While Netflix isn't bundled as widely in India as it is in the U.S., a few telecom and broadband providers do offer it as part of their premium plans. JioFiber, Airtel Xstream, and Tata Play Binge are known to include Netflix access in select high-end packages, often alongside other OTT platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, and Sony LIV. These bundles are typically offered with top-tier postpaid mobile plans or fibre broadband connections, giving you access to multiple streaming services at a combined price that's cheaper than paying for each separately. If you're already using one of these providers, check your plan details, you might be eligible for Netflix without even realising it.

Mukesh Ambani's JioPC turns your TV into an AI computer, here's how

India's largest telecom company, Jio, is taking another big step in tech innovation. This time around, the company has introduced JioPC — a cloud-based virtual desktop service that runs through its set-top box. The idea is simple: turn any TV connected to a Jio set-top box into a full-fledged personal computer. With millions of households across the country owning a TV but not a PC, this could be a pretty big deal. All it takes is a keyboard and mouse plugged into the set-top box, and once your invite is approved, you can access a complete desktop interface right on your television. Since it works through the cloud, it can also power basic AI features in future — like smart document tools, virtual learning apps, and more. This service is currently in a free trial and available via offers a desktop experience designed for day-to-day computing tasks — be it browsing the web, attending online classes, or using office apps. The set-top box itself comes bundled free with JioFiber broadband plans or can be bought separately for Rs 5,499. The service includes LibreOffice, an open-source alternative to Microsoft Office. While native support for Microsoft apps isn't built-in, users can access them via the browser. It's still early days, and there are limitations for now. Devices like cameras and printers are not yet supported, but for basic use cases, the system seems to a report by TechCrunch, Jio is aiming to increase its already massive user base of 488 million by offering PC functionality at minimal cost. Tarun Pathak from Counterpoint Research notes that this could be an effective way to reach under-penetrated markets. Around 70 per cent of Indian homes have a TV, but only about 15 per cent own a computer. With internet connectivity improving, JioPC could find traction in rural and lower-income households where affordability has always been a concern. Of course, there's promise, but also a few things to fix. The lack of support for external peripherals and the need to rely on web apps for full productivity tools could limit the experience. However, as a first big move into the AI PC space for regular users — not just enterprises — JioPC is definitely a big step as we the success of JioPC will depend on how well Jio communicates its value to people who may not be familiar with the idea of a cloud PC. As per government data, there are currently close to 57 million active pay-TV users in India. However, the DTH market is slowly shrinking due to the rise of streaming platforms, so this could also be Jio's way of keeping users on its platform.- Ends
