Kashmiri man's death in Delhi: Parties seek probe
Amid allegations of foul play, the mysterious death of a Kashmir youth in Delhi earlier this week has triggered anger in the Valley with increasing demands from political parties for an impartial probe. Zubair Ahmad Bhat, 30, a resident of Ali Kadal in Srinagar, died in New Delhi under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday. His family has alleged that he had gone to Delhi for work and was assaulted in Delhi. People's Democratic Party leader Iltija Mufti alleged that Bhat was subjected to custodial torture by Delhi Police. 'Zubair Ahmed Bhat didn't die under mysterious circumstances. Let me bite the bullet & state the unpleasant truth. His family claims he was picked up by Delhi Police, questioned & thrashed with rods. This 30 year old man was the sole breadwinner for his mother & siblings. When will this pattern of snuffing out the lives of innocent Kashmiris purely on suspicion end? She said: 'They showed me his last message, which said the police caught him and took his Aadhaar card. He messaged his sister and wrote, 'The police caught me because I am Kashmiri. They took my Aadhaar card, and then they beat me with sticks. I am in a hotel. May God have mercy. His family says he left Jammu for Delhi. After reaching Delhi, the police at one of the stations, I think it was Lajpat Nagar, caught Zubair, took his Aadhaar card, and beat him. The next day, when he went back to collect his Aadhaar card, they beat him again. And when he returned home, he died' is what happened to Zubair.' Congress leader and AICC chairman of media and publicity, Pawan Khera sought response of Delhi Police regarding Bhat's death. 'In the capital city, a young Kashmiri dies under mysterious circumstances and not a word of it gets discussed in mainstream media? Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari said that the J&K administration should take up the matter with Delhi authorities. 'It is now the responsibility of the J&K administration to take up this matter with the authorities in Delhi to ensure that the truth behind his tragic death is fully uncovered,' Bukhari said.

J&K Encounter: Gunfight Breaks Out Between Security Forces And Terrorists In Awantipora
J&K Encounter: A fresh encounter erupted between the police forces and terrorists in the Nader, Tral area of Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning. The confirmation of the identification of two out of three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)-affiliated terrorists has been made, sources told ANI. Three of the terrorists were killed in the Shukroo forest area of Keller in the Shopian district. According to ANI sources, one of the terrorists was identified as Shahid Kuttay, son of Mohd Yousuf Kuttay and a resident of Chotipora Heerpora in Shopian. He was a Category A, LeT operative who was involved in the firing incident at the Danish Resort in Srinagar on April 8, 2024, in which two German tourists and one driver were injured. He joined the terror outfit on March 8, 2023. Kuttay was involved in the killing of a BJP Sarpanch at Heerpora on May 18, 2024 and was suspect involved in the killing of Territorial Army Personnel at Behibagh in Kulgam on February 3, 2025. The other identified terrorist was Adnan Shafi Dar, son of Mohd Shafi Dar, who was a resident of Wanduna Melhora in Shopian. He joined the terror outfit on October 18, 2024 and was a category C LeT operative. He was involved in the killing of non-local labourers at Wachi in Shopian on October 18, 2024. However, the identity of the last terrorist is yet to be confirmed.

Encounter breaks out in Awantipora, second clash in Kashmir in 48 hours

Earlier, on 13 May, three terrorists were killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district. Operation Keller was carried out based on intelligence input. Taking to X, the Indian Army wrote, "On 13 May 2025, based on specific intelligence of a #RashtriyasRifles Unit, about the presence of terrorists in the general area of Shoekal Keller, #Shopian, #IndianArmy launched a search and destroy Operation. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire, and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in the elimination of three hardcore terrorists (sic)." The encounters in the Valley come just days after both India and Pakistan agreed on an"understanding to stop all firing and military action", following the unrest which ensued after India's 'Operation Sindoor', launched on 7 May in response to the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists. On 13 May, Jammu and Kashmir Police also released images of the three terror suspects for their alleged involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack and announced a reward of ₹20 lakh. 11 military personnel killed, claims Pakistan On 13 May, Pakistan claimed that 11 of its military personnel were killed and 78 others were injured during the recent military confrontation, news agency PTI reported. The Pakistani military, in a statement, also claimed that as many as 40 civilians were killed and 121 were injured when India launched Operation Sindoor. Operation Sindoor On the intervening night of 6 and 7 May, Indian armed forces launched coordinated missile strikes on terrorist infrastructure at nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Following the missile strikes, tensions escalated between the two nuclear-armed neighbours as diplomatic ties between the two were also worsening. Pakistan also resorted to heavy shelling in border areas across the Line of Control (LoC), resulting in the death of at least 16 civilians. The fiery exchange continued for at least four days before the two neighbours agreed to an understanding and stopped all firing and military action.
