Rare 50p coin listed for £10k on eBay and there are 9m of them out there
A rare 50p Paddington Bear coin has been spotted on eBay for a staggering £10,000 - but a coin expert has urged people to be wary of purchasing 'rare' coins online A 50p coin has been put up for sale for an eyewatering £10,000 - despite there being 9million in circulation. The Paddington Bear 50p coin was issued by the Royal Mint in 2018 in commemoration of the iconic character. The coin has an image of Paddington Bear standing outside St Paul's Cathedral as he tips his hat, as part of the Paddington series. The eBay seller from Woodbridge has listed the 'rare' coin for a staggering £10K. The design was issued by the Royal Mint to continue the celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of the British Bear - and features a design of Paddington based on the CGI-live action movie. The coins shows Paddington continuing his adventures at the ornate St. Paul's Cathedral as well as others showing him at the Tower of London, his namesake train station and with the guards outside Buckingham Palace. It was designed by David Knapton and the intricate engraving of Paddington in his famous hat outside the London landmark is one of the iconic 5p designs. On the reverse is Jody Clark's 5th Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, reports Plymouth Live. According to The Westminster Collection, the 2018 Paddington 50p coin releases proved to be some of the "most popular 50p coins of the year". More than 35 million books in the Paddington series have been sold worldwide, with plays, musicals, and animated series also being created of the famous bear as well as the coins which are being listed for a huge mark-up. The Coincollectingwizard - a rare coins expert said: "A Paddington Bear 50p selling for thousands - is this coin secretly worth a fortune People are listing these for £20,000 to £30,000 - what is going on here? Let's break it down before you start digging through your change. "The Paddington Bear 50p was released in 2018 and 2019 to celebrate 60 years of Paddington. There are four different designs featuring everyone's favourite, marmalade-loving bear. There were over 5million minted and sent out into the wild for people to find in their change. "So, how much is this coin really worth? Well, brace yourselves - it's just 50p. Yep, despite the crazy eBay prices, these are common coins with no hidden treasure value. And here's the truth - people can list them for any price, but that doesn't mean they're selling for that much. Always check sold listings for the real value. If you see a listing asking for thousands, it's just someone hoping for a clueless buyer to fall for the trap. Don't be that buyer."

Rare 10 cent coin worth up to 70 times more: 'Keep your eyes out for this'
Australians rifling through their spare change have been urged to "keep their eyes out" for a 10 cent coin that can be worth a decent amount of money. Coins can fetch a pretty price at auction if they're particularly rare or if there was an error during the minting process. This is the case for the 2019 10c coin, as it had a rare deviation from the normal portrait used for Queen Elizabeth II. Coin expert Michael McCauley said they can be tricky to find due to its low mintage rate. "They didn't make many of these coins and for that reason, coin collectors pay more than 10 cents... in fact, they pay between $1.30 and $7 currently for them," he said. 'Extremely rare' 10 cent coin worth up to $3,300 Gen Z worker reveals $4,732 cost-of-living drain facing millions FIFO worker on $250,000 reveals how Aussies can get into mining industry Paying up to 70 times more than face value is due to only two million of these coins being minted in 2019. While that might sound like a lot, it pales in comparison to mintage rates of other years. The Royal Australian Mint produced a whopping 22.8 million 10 cent coins in 2021 alone, along with 23.2 million the year revealed the 10 cent coin very rarely deviates in its design for the obverse side showing the reigning monarch. However, in 2019, Jody Clark redesigned the portrait of Her Majesty to have the Victorian Coronation Necklace. You can also see a tiny JC imprinted onto the side of the portrait on the coin to honour Clark's work. According to collection website Numista, this version of the 10 cent coin was issued in bags of 20 at Royal Australian Mint pop-up shops across the country in 2019. It was also available in regular coins and Aussies might have stumbled across it in their spare change. Getting $7 off a 10 cent coin might sound like a huge win, but you can get even more money out of some 10c coins. There were only 1.7 million standard-issue 10 cent coins minted in 2011, and they can fetch upwards of $50 at auction. 'Don't sleep on the 10 cent coins. One of the best ones to look for are the 2011 standard issue 10 cent coins,' McCauley said. "[It's] the lowest mintage 10 cent coin that was produced for circulation.' Other low-mintage 10 cent coins include 1985 coins, which had a mintage of 2 million. Aside from that, Downies Collectables said it can be worth looking out for collector coins from 1976, 1987, 1995, 1996 and 2003. The Royal Mint did not issue standard 10 cent coins during these years so any coins you find with those dates would be from mint sets. There's an extremely rare 10 cent piece known as the 'double lyrebird' because it doesn't have a portrait of the Queen on it due to a mintage error. That can fetch up to $3,300 if you are lucky enough to get your hands on in retrieving data Sign in to access your portfolio Error in retrieving data

Rare 50p coin of Queen Elizabeth is selling at over £100,000 on eBay as collectors scramble to buy it
A rare 50p coin featuring Queen Elizabeth II and Benjamin Bunny has been listed on eBay for £100,000. The item, which was listed on the online marketplace last week by a seller in Leicester, was described as a 'coveted piece' from the Beatrix Potter collection. It dates back to 2017 and is part of the second series of coins commemorating the British author's 150th anniversary. Designed by engraver Emma Noble, the coin features the mischievous fictional bunny, who can be seen wearing the 'Tam O' Shanter' hat borrowed from Mr. McGregor's scarecrow. On the reverse is Queen Elizabeth, with Jody Clark the last engraver to create a coinage portrait of the late monarch. The seller's description reads: 'Delve into the enchanting world of Beatrix Potter with the Benjamin Bunny 2017 50 pence coin, a coveted piece from the beloved author's collectable series. 'Minted in the United Kingdom during the era of Elizabeth II, this rare coin is a treasure for both numismatists and Potter enthusiasts. 'Its intricate design and its significance as a part of a much-celebrated collection make it a noteworthy addition to any collection. 'Struck in Great Britain, this coin not only represents a piece of British heritage but also serves as a charming tribute to the enduring tales of Beatrix Potter. 'The coin's denomination is 50p, a testament to its value and the careful craftsmanship that went into its creation. 'Collectors and fans alike will appreciate the detail and the historical context that this piece offers.' It is listed for £100,086.72, but the nearest offer will be considered. The hefty sum also ensures no delivery fee will be required as the seller says posting costs will be covered. Elsewhere, Britain's official maker of coins, The Royal Mint, are selling the coin for £8 with the guarantee of a certificate of authenticity. They say the coin serves as a 'meaningful gift' or as the 'perfect gateway into coin collecting'. The first iteration of the Beatrix Potter series entered circulation in 2016, marking 150 years since her birth. The original collection features household favourites such as Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and Squirrel Nutkin. A coin solely commemorating the author was also released, which Britannia Coin Company are selling for £195.
