Al-Ahly Benghazi crowned Libyan Basketball League champion for 4th time in its history
Al-Ahly Benghazi secured the Libyan Basketball League title for the fourth time in its history after defeating Al-Ahly Tripoli 101–98 on Friday evening in the third and final match of the championship playoffs in Tripoli.
Al-Ahly Benghazi had already won the first two games of the finals, taking the opener 82–80, and then the second match 80–68. Friday's game was a thrilling and fiercely contested showdown, going into overtime after regular time ended in a draw.
Al-Ahly Tripoli dominated early, controlling the pace and clinching the first quarter 28–21, then maintaining the lead to close the first half ahead 52–44. Their dominance continued into the third quarter, extending the advantage to 71–60.
However, the final quarter was a drama. Despite trailing by 15 points, Al-Ahly Benghazi launched a stunning comeback to tie the game at 84–84, pushing it into a five-minute overtime. The first extra period ended with the teams still level at 91–91.
In the second overtime, Al-Ahly Benghazi, led by their Lebanese coach Joe Ghattas, surged ahead by three points, sealing the match with a dramatic 101–98 victory and clinching the national title. Tags: Libyan Basketball League Ahli Benghazi
