'Extreme' storyline Emmerdale fans want to end as it's 'mind-numbingly tedious'
Emmerdale fans are calling for one of its ongoing storylines to end, with it being labelled "mind-numbingly tedious". Those who watch the ITV soap have been discussing the plot surrounding Joe Tate and the recently returned Dr Crowley. The pair has a previous history together as part of Joe's previous kidney transplant story. Now, the doctor, played by James Hillier, has returned to seek revenge. James Hillier's character last appeared on the ITV soap back in March. Joe was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and hired the shady doctor to treat him and secure him a kidney transplant. After Joe's paternal half-uncle, Caleb Miligan, was found to be a donor match, his kidney was taken after he was stabbed. Following this, Dr Crowley transplanted it into Joe before fleeing the country, and that was the last heard from him... until now. Having returned to the soap this week, Joe was knocked unconscious and woke up in a makeshift hospital room to find Crowley. He revealed that he gave Joe an epidural and "numbed the lower spine, along with the upper, near the base of the skull", meaning Joe was left paralysed. It was revealed that Shaun, who arrived with Joe's laptop, had been secretly working for Crowley. Despite originally refusing, following the threat of torture, Joe reveals the passwords and Shaun transfers £105,000 to Crowley's account. Following Dr Crowley's return on the ITV show, fans have been discussing the ongoing storyline, and some are not impressed. Good news as Emmerdale returns to ITV with new episode after nearly a week
Good news if you are a fan of Emmerdale, as the ITV soap will return to our screens this evening after being off air for almost a week. It's been a confusing time for us soap lovers, as coverage of Wimbledon and the UEFA Women's Euros have turned the usual schedules for EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale upside down. One minute you're sitting down ready for your usual trip to the Dales and the next, you learn that drama in the village is being put on hold for a week. Honestly, it's a lot to keep up with – and it sadly isn't over yet. There is some positivity on the horizon though, as Emmerdale will air on ITV1 tonight at 7:30pm. The episode, which can be viewed on ITVX right now, is a half-hour instalment. Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) returns home after her hysterectomy and struggles with what her operation has cost her. She tries to distract herself by helping Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), who is busy trying to make some posters for Nate's memorial. Elsewhere in the village, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) is faced with an angry Ross Barton (Michael Parr), who accuses him of stealing the weed that disappeared from the barn last week. At Home Farm, Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) remains paranoid about his blackmailer. He attempts to do something about it, but he ends up putting himself in huge danger, ahead of Doctor Crowley's (James Hillier) return. For the rest of this week, the schedule is as follows: More Trending Wednesday, July 9 – No episodeThursday, July 10 – 7:30-8:30pm Friday, July 11 – 7:30-8pm With Crowley busy planning revenge, Joe discovers the lengths the dodgy surgeon is prepared to go to. A "weird" Emmerdale villain is set for a return to the ITV soap to seek revenge on one character. Dr Crowley, played by James Hillier, last appeared on the show in March. Now, he is coming back to the show to seek revenge on Joe Tate (Ned Porteous). The villain was at the centre of many theories during his previous storyline with Joe. Joe Tate hired the shady doctor to treat him and secure him a kidney transplant after being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Joe and Dr Crowley spiked Joe's half-brother, Noah Dingle, but he proved not to be a match. Joe's paternal half-uncle, Caleb Miligan, was later found to be a match, so Joe took his kidney after Caleb was stabbed. Dr Crowley transplanted it into Joe before fleeing the country, with it later revealed that he may have told Joe a fake name. At the time of the storyline, Emmerdale viewers were full of theories surrounding the dodgy doctor. A post was made on the r/Emmerdale Reddit page, one fan said: "I just find Dr Crowley such a weird addition to the show and Joe's storyline. "Something is telling me that either he isn't really a doctor, or he has ties to the Tates. "Why would he help Joe and go to so much length and secrecy to do so? How comes only Joe has seen him, and no one's seen him sneaking into home farm?" They also questioned why the relationship between Joe and Crowley appeared to be "a bit closer than doctor and patient". Another said: "He's probably just some dodgy private doctor willing to go to lengths as Joe is willing to pay." However, others questioned whether he was a real doctor at all. Now, the villain is on his way back to Emmerdale to exact revenge on Joe. Spoilers for this week reveal that Joe wakes up in a makeshift hospital after being knocked out. Dr Crowley is revealed to be watching over Joe, with the exact nature of his revenge unknown. Some fans believe he has a connection to a character already on the show. One said: "Omg it's the doctor that Kim's dating." Another added: "I think Crowley is Kim's new interest." Teasing the situation to The Sun, actor Ned Porteous, who plays Joe, spoke about the moment his character wakes up to see the doctor looking on. He said: "[Joe's] very confused, very scared. A very powerless situation for Joe to be in." On working with James again, he added: "He's a really, really lovely guy. Joe actor Ned Porteous has opened up about the moment Joe finds himself knocked out and coming to in a makeshift operating theatre while the bad doctor looks on. "[Joe's] very confused, very scared,' he said. 'A very powerless situation for Joe to be in." And talking about working with James again, Ned said: "He's a really, really lovely guy. "I enjoy working with him, and the character that he built is fun, it's got more dimensions than just a helper, and it serves as a very interesting character going forward. Watch the moment Emmerdale's Caleb tries to KILL Joe after discovering the truth about his stolen kidney "Hopefully the audience likes what we do with it, because it all gets a bit crazy." He added of Joe: "I like to believe that he's just doing what he has to do to survive, and I think if you were to hold that mirror up to everyone and say, 'What would you do if your life really depended on it?' Could you really ask yourself... you wouldn't do that? "People say that they wouldn't want to, and it's not the right thing to do. Of course it's the wrong thing to do, it's completely unethical, it's completely immoral, but he was fighting for his life and now he's just having to pick up the scraps, I guess."
