Joel Dahmen Bids Emotional Farewell to 'Best Friend,' Longtime Caddie
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. It hasn't been a good year for iconic player-caddie duos. Collin Morikawa recently fired his caddie JJ Jakovac after working with him his entire professional career, while Max Homa also parted ways with Joe Greiner, who had been his caddie for six years. However, the most recent split has cut even deeper into the emotions of the golf world. Joel Dahmen of the United States and caddie Geno Bonnalie walk down the 14th fairway during the final round of the Corales Puntacana Championship 2025 at Puntacana Resort & Club, Corales Golf Course on April 20, 2025 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. MoreFan favorites Joel Dahmen and Geno Bonnalie have ended their relationship as player and caddie after 10 years of arguably being the most beloved couple at every tournament they attended. Reacting to the moment, Dahmen assured in a heartfelt message that their new professional situation in no way affects their status as best friends. "We're still the best of friends and that will never change," Dahmen posted on X. "But we both know that a fresh perspective is sometimes needed and it's been a great run. I couldn't be more proud of what we have achieved together as guys from a small town in the middle of nowhere." Dahmen is in the Barracuda Championship field, which will be his first start without Bonnalie at his side in more than 10 years. So far, there's no information on who will handle his bag at the Tahoe Mountain Club in Reno, Nevada. We're still the best of friends and that will never change. I am going to keep… — Joel Dahmen (@Joel_Dahmen) July 15, 2025 Joel Dahmen and Geno Bonnalie's Run at a Glance Dahmen and Bonnalie have a long-standing friendship dating back to their childhood in Clarkston, Washington. However, it wasn't until 2015, five years after Dahmen began his professional career, that Bonnalie started working as his full-time caddie. At the time, Dahmen was playing on the Korn Ferry Tour, trying to reach the next level, which he achieved a season later. In 2016-2017, the player had his first big run on the PGA Tour, playing in 16 tournaments and finishing in the top 10 once. Always with Bonnalie taking care of his bag, Dahmen secured his PGA Tour card for the following season, becoming a regular at the highest level of professional golf. Together, they accumulated 228 starts on the PGA Tour between 2016 and 2025, with the victory in the 2021 Corales Puntacana Championship as the main highlight. Dahmen has finished in 25 other top 10s and earned $13.4 million for his inside-the-rope performances. However, his results have been declining over the past two seasons. Last year, he nearly lost his PGA Tour card and only retained it after a nail-biting battle in the FedEx Cup Fall, while in 2025, he is ranked 96th in the FedEx Cup rankings (the top 100 retain their card) with only seven cuts made in 19 starts. Joel Dahmen announces split from caddie Geno Bonnalie
Joel Dahmen announced Tuesday that he was splitting from longtime caddie Geno Bonnaile. The news was first reported Monday by Matt Gannon. Dahmen and Bonnaile have worked together for more than a decade, beginning on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2015. Their relationship, which began as childhood friends in Washington state, was popularized over two seasons on Netflix's "Full Swing" show. Advertisement "We're still the best of friends and that will never change," Dahmen said in an X post. "But we both know that a fresh perspective is sometimes needed and it's been a great run. I couldn't be more proud of what we have achieved together as guys from a small town in the middle of nowhere." Earlier this year, Max Homa and longtime friend/caddie Joe Greiner parted ways amid Homa's on-course struggles. Dahmen is currently 98th on the FedExCup points list, with the top 100 securing full status in 2026. He finished 124th last year — when the top 125 earned cards. Dahmen's lone Tour win came in the 2021 Corales Puntacana Championship. He had a chance to win that event again this year but bogeyed his final three holes to lose by one. Netflix's 'Full Swing' Star Hit With Unfortunate News
Netflix's 'Full Swing' Star Hit With Unfortunate News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It hurts more when it feels personal. Especially when the bond seemed unbreakable, on and off the golf course. Advertisement This week, Joel Dahmen and Geno Bonnalie, perhaps the most adored player-caddie duo on the PGA Tour, decided to part ways. Fans first learned of the news through Matt Gannon. Soon after, Skratch's Dan Rapaport confirmed it with a direct quote from Dahmen himself: 'It was time. We had a great run.' That 'run' wasn't just about golf. These two weren't just teammates; they were best friends. Their bromance became the emotional heart of Full Swing on Netflix. Season 2 even showed them tearing up mid-flight when Dahmen told Geno, 'I love the f--- out of you.' Now, it's over. The split adds to a growing list of big-name shake-ups this season. Max Homa and Joe Greiner? Gone. Collin Morikawa and J.J. Jakovac? Done. Even Tom Kim and Paul Tesori broke up this week. This isn't just a trend, it's a full-blown caddie carousel. Advertisement Dahmen, meanwhile, is having a rough patch. He's winless since 2021 and ranked No. 172 in the world. He's hanging onto his PGA Tour card by a thread, finishing No. 124 in last year's FedExCup standings. This year, only the top 100 will get full status for 2026, and he's sitting at 96th. For now, he's more visible off the course, doing commentary and making appearances. But after 10 years together, it's clear this wasn't an easy decision for either of them. Dahmen tees it up this week at the Barracuda Championship. A new caddie will be there. But for fans, something will be missing. Joel Dahmen Reveals Key Metric for LPGA Star to Contend at PGA Tour Event
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A debate that resurfaces from time to time in the golf world is the likelihood of LPGA Tour stars versus their male counterparts. Opinions vary widely, especially when the PGA Tour is included in the analysis. Fan favorite Joel Dahmen weighed in on the issue recently and, probably surprising many, didn't rule out the possibility of a female star finishing in the PGA Tour's top 10. Dahmen was asked about this via X and mentioned the factor he considers key to such a feat: "Course is a big factor. Nelly is the obvious answer, but going to need speed. The shortest hitter on pga is still longer than the longest on the lpga." Naturally, off-the-tee performance is crucial in this analysis. However, The Golfing Gazette journalist Anthony Martin, who generated Dahmen's analysis, put together some data that allows for a different perspective on the matter: 5 longest LPGA Tour drivers 5 shortest PGA Tour drivers Polly Mack 289.17 Brian Campbell 276.6 Julia Lopez Ramirez 287.16 Paul Peterson 280.0 Auston Kim 285.10 Andrew Putnam 282.0 Emily Kristine Pedersen 283.66 Matt Kuchar 284.7 Weiwei Zhang 280.53 Brandt Snedeker 285.5 Can an LPGA Tour Player be Competitive on the PGA Tour? At first glance, it would seem that some, if not all, female players could become competitive on the PGA Tour. However, it's noteworthy that none of the players included on the list above have won on the LPGA Tour, while four of the five players (except Paul Peterson) included do have at least one PGA Tour title. The bottom line is that driving distance is an important factor, but not the only one to be taken into account in the analysis. It's not for nothing that only one of the seven LPGA Tour stars who have competed on the PGA Tour has made the cut, and that was more than 80 years ago (Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Los Angeles Open, 1938). More Douglas P. DeFelice/Getty Images Another scenario would be to include stars like Nelly Korda and Lydia Ko, playing at the top of their game. As recent as 2023, Lexi Thompson came within inches of making a cut at the Shriners Children's Open. But that is still a ways from a top 10 finish. A completely different analysis is the chances LPGA Tour players have against scratch golfers, a debate that also resurfaced a few days ago. Fan opinion is divided on the matter, although the vast majority believe that professional female players would have a significant advantage over scratch golfers. However, there are those who think exactly the opposite. Where there is a virtually unanimous consensus in favor of LPGA Tour players is among experts. Analysts like Lou Stagner, journalists like Sam "Riggs" Bozoian of Barstool Sports, professional players like Byeong Hun An, and renowned coaches like Jon Sherman cast their votes in favor of professional female stars regardless of their name or pedigree. Logic is on their side. More Golf: John Deere Classic: Max Homa comes painfully close to snapping drought
