Group of EU Nations Holds Talks on Relaxing Gas Storage Targets
By , John Ainger, and Petra Sorge Save A group of European countries that hold the biggest reserves in the region have held early stage and informal talks about softening refilling targets after 2025 amid concerns that high prices are making it unprofitable to store gas. European Union rules requiring storage to be 90% full by Nov. 1 expire at the end of this year. The European Commission has made clear that it would like to continue the requirement but a there are discussions among a group of countries including Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands to support a relaxation of the target.
