ITV drama hailed as 'brilliant' watch for Dept Q fans as it storms Netflix chart

Netflix viewers have been binging a 'brilliant' ITV detective drama after the six-parter arrived on Netflix after originally airing on the terrestrial channel back in January While the heatwave may be raging on in the UK, it hasn't stopped TV fans from binging Netflix 's latest releases - including one particular show that was made by ITV. Netflix viewers can't get enough of ITV drama North Shore, which has finally arrived on the streamer after making its debut on Paramount+ back in 2023. The six-part detective drama stars Game of Thrones' John Bradley as Max Drummond - a British detective sent over to Australia to investigate the murder of trade minister Abigail Crawford's (Joanne Froggatt) daughter. After the body of Abigail's daughter Sophie is discovered in Sydney Harbour, Max is forced to work with Australian detective Meg Driscoll (Kirsty Sturgess) to discover the truth behind the complex case. ‌ ‌ The mystery crime thriller arrived on ITVX at the end of last year in the UK and premiered on Network 10 the year before in Australia. However, many new fans are binging their way through North Shore, written by Cold Feet writer Michael J. Bullen. "#northshore on @netflix is brilliant! When is the next series please??" one fan wrote on X. Another said: "Have you seen North Shore on Netflix? Aussie crime series. Just starting ep 2 but like it very much so far." A third wrote: "North shore on Netflix well worth a watch!!" The series is making its way up the Netflix Top 10 streaming charts in the UK, placing at number nine. Meanwhile, some even compared the series to Netflix hit Dept Q - recommending that fans of the Matthew Goode series give North Shore a watch. "For anyone missing Dept Q, you might want to look at North Shore on Netflix. Brilliant." Another said: "If you're looking for good British crime shows on Netflix, watch Dept Q and North Shore." When the series aired on ITV earlier this year, many fans b egan to remember Joanne Froggatt's early role in Coronation Street as Zoe Tattersall. She appeared on the ITV soap from 1997 until 1998, before which she appeared in an episode of The Bill. If you're looking for something else to watch, Netflix users have just seven days to watch the highest rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes - Leave No Trace. The film follows a father and daughter as they return to the real world after living in the forest for years. Ben Foster and Thomasin McKenzie star in the film, which details the twist and turns of their journey after their off-the-grid life is discovered by the authorities.

Victoria's Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action boss John Bradley abruptly quits amid green shift woes

Victoria's top energy and climate official has abruptly called it quits as pressure builds on the state's energy transition that has been riddled with issues over recent years. John Bradley, the secretary of Victoria's Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action since September 2017, sent an internal note stating he had informed Premier Jacinta Allan of his resignation. 'I've offered to remain in my role until the end of September, but will work with the Premier and secretary of DPC to confirm the transition arrangements,' Mr Bradley said in a note, per The Australian. 'Our DEECA staff tend to be on the 'front line' of big challenges. I know your work may often feel rewarding but it will not often feel 'easy'.' His resignation sparked an attack from Victoria's shadow energy minister David Davis who slammed Labor's energy policies. 'Prices have surged for gas and electricity with another gas price surge of almost seven per cent due on Tuesday next week, and electricity prices far higher than just a few years ago," Mr Davis told "Security of supply for both gas and electricity is also a serious challenge for Victoria after Labor's stint in government. 'The offshore wind debacle, and Labor's ideological commitment to a war on gas, have all contributed to serious looming challenges. 'The shoddy costing of the Victorian Transmission Plan, and the draconian and undemocratic approach to enforcing the Allan Labor Government's Transmission Plan, would give rise to concern by any wise, experienced, and independent senior public servant." Mr Bradley's resignation comes as the state attempts to reach 40 per cent renewables in its energy mix this year, 65 per cent by 2030 and 95 per cent by 2035. The ambitious targets are complicated by the state's plans to wind back gas - which were reversed this week following widespread backlash. The policy was part of a wider push to install electric heating models into homes. Additional strain on the state's energy mix may come from its plans to shut down its major coal power stations, including Yallourn, over the coming years. Mr Bradley said he would facilitate a smooth transition while the DEECA team continues on the state's net-zero path. 'I know this change comes at a busy time when our DEECA team members are working hard on delivery priorities, our big work program for 2025/26 and the drought response,' he said. 'I look forward to the chance to see you before I finish up.' While Victoria flip-flops on gas, the state continues to have the highest use of residential gas in Australia, with an estimated 80 per cent of homes still connected to the gas network. It was recently criticised by the bosses of two major Australian energy companies, with the boss of Santos likening Victoria's handling of gas development and its attitude towards investment to North Korea. Meanwhile, Beach Energy CEO Brett Woods said getting gas projects approved in Victoria had 'been a challenge'. 'Victoria still have had quite a negative policy in terms of what the role of gas is in the state,' Mr Woods said on Sky News' Business Weekend. 'I think the recognition now, with industry shutting down and foreclosures and other things, (is) that they need more gas. 'We're ready to help, we just want to get after our projects so we can move them forward.' has reached out to DEECA for comment.

Council agrees new commemoration to UDR soldiers killed in 1990

On April 9, 1990, on the Ballydugan Road near Downpatrick, four UDR soldiers – John Bradley (25), John Birch (28), Stephen Smart (23) and Michael Adams (23) were killed in a 1,000lb IRA landmine attack. At a June meeting of the Ards and North Down Borough Council's Corporate Services Committee, a motion was unanimously agreed, forwarded by independent unionist Steven Irvine and DUP councillor Stephen McIlveen. The motion states the local authority 'recognises the pain and sacrifice felt by their families, comrades, and the wider community, and acknowledges the bravery of these young men who served their country during a difficult period in our history'. It proposes the council 'supports the installation of a fitting and permanent tribute at the Newtownards cenotaph, either through an upgrade to the existing memorial or the addition of a dedicated memorial bench, in memory of these four brave young men'. It requests the council 'engage with the families of the fallen, veteran organisations, and local stakeholders to develop appropriate wording and design for the memorial addition, and to ensure the tribute is carried out with the dignity and sensitivity it deserves – and asks officers to bring a report back with options and costs.' The four men were part of a two-vehicle patrol from Ballykinlar to Downpatrick. A command wire detonated the landmine bomb hidden in a culvert beneath the road. The four men were killed instantly. The force of the explosion was so powerful that it launched the vehicle over a hedge and 30 yards into a field, leaving a crater 15 feet deep. Four UDR soldiers in the lead vehicle were treated for injuries along with two civilians. The April 1990 attack was the worst attack against the UDR since July 1983, when four soldiers of the same regiment were killed in a similar attack near Ballygawley. Councillor Steven Irvine said at the council meeting: 'I was approached before Remembrance Day last year by North Down Football Club, a local football club with strong community ties, to help their efforts to honour these fallen soldiers. I had no hesitation. 'They had already been approached by the UDR Benevolent Fund about tidying up the Ballydugan memorial site, and through that, they met one of the survivors of the attack. A team cleaned the site, laid weed membrane, painted the existing memorial, cut back the trees, and even installed a new paved entrance. 'Downpatrick Royal British Legion then stepped up their support, commissioning a new fence and gate, in a beautiful example of community collaboration and shared remembrance. But it didn't stop there, North Down FC committee members met with the families and survivors, and together they arranged to raise funds for a bespoke memorial bench, crafted by a local company. 'The families' wishes have been central to this effort, and their support means everything. Their commitment is ongoing – with four clean-ups a year, to make sure the memorial is maintained with care, respect and dignity.' He added: 'It is time that this council takes the next step to provide a fitting, permanent tribute at Newtownards cenotaph, through an upgrade to the existing memorial stone, or the installation of a dedicated bench in memory of these four young men.' Elected representatives agreed for council officials to engage with the families, veterans' organisations and other stakeholders, to return to the council with options and costs.
