And just like that … I had to stop watching the Sex and the City sequel

S ex and the City fans are used to plot points being recycled. After all, how many times did Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) reunite with her on/off boyfriends Big (Chris Noth) and Aidan (John Corbett)? But even long-suffering audiences who are still gritting their teeth through the tedious third season of its sequel, And Just Like That …, in the ever-dwindling hope of seeing some actual sex or indeed city action more thrilling than the removal of rats from Carrie's new Gramercy Park garden have been surprised by showrunners having the chutzpah to kill off a character twice. In the latest episode the father of the film-maker Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker) died seemingly for the second time, as eagle-eyed viewers recalled that in season one, after the sudden death of Carrie's husband, Big, from an overly enthusiastic Peloton session, Lisa had discussed her dad having already passed away.

And Just Like That fans furious over 'irritating' Carrie cheating scandal: 'They've ruined all of these characters'

Fans have been torn on Carrie Bradshaw's (Sarah Jessica Parker) bizarre long distance relationship with Aidan Shaw (John Corbett), but now many are calling for it to end after a shocking revelation from Aidan on Thursday's And Just Like That... The new episode - entitled Silent Mode - found Aidan returning to New York, after his troubled son Wyatt (Logan Souza) agreed to go to a wilderness program in Wyoming for a week. However, Aidan changed his mind at the airport, which lead to some strife with Aidan, Wyatt and his ex-wife Kathy (Rosemarie DeWitt) on their ride back home. Still, Aidan made his way to New York City, and promptly revealed to Carrie that he slept with Kathy, which stunned Carrie... though her reaction stunned fans more, just a week after Cynthia Nixon stunned fans with her full-frontal nudity. She ultimately forgave him, almost immediately, which lead to an awkward conversation about the scope of their relationship. It also lead to fans taking to social media to immediately bash the show and its writers, with some even alleging this show has 'ruined' the once-beloved characters from the original HBO series, Sex and the City. Aidan's Manhattan arrival got off to a weird start, when he, for some reason, decided to throw a pebble at the window to get Carrie's attention. When that didn't work, he threw the small rock harder, which naturally lead to the window breaking. Aidan said he could get someone to replace the glass, but she insists the glass is 'really delicate and wavy' and it 'makes rainbows when the sun hits it in a certain way,' leading Aidan to admit nothing is going his way. He admitted that Wyatt wouldn't get on the airplane, and changed his mind at the gate but they insisted that he would go. He would insist on driving to Scranton, Pennsylvania to find antique glass to replace the window, but when he got back, Aidan dropped a bombshell: he slept with Kathy. 'After the airport, she was just so upset and, I mean, we both were. I guess we were just trying to comfort each other. It just happened, and it was a mistake, honey, we both said so, and it will never, ever happen again, it just won't,' Aidan said. Carrie was clearly distraught, but she admitted that she understood, 'how that could happen,' as he apologized for betraying her. That seemed to confuse Carrie more, as Aidan admitted, 'We agreed to wait for each other and I slept with someone else,' though Carrie says, 'Well, I didn't agree to that.' He would insist on driving to Scranton, Pennsylvania to find antique glass to replace the window, but when he got back, Aidan dropped a bombshell: he slept with Kathy She says she agreed that she would be there waiting when he was ready, adding, 'You expected me not to sleep with anyone else for five years?' Aidan insists he agreed to it but Carrie said even he couldn't do it, as Aidan admitted he, 'broke our trust,' which sent Carrie's mind racing. She said she had a hard time understanding how they never had this conversation, though she admitted she didn't want to sleep with anyone else and she still wants to sleep with him, as they ended up in bed that night. Still, fans were furious about the scene and their relationship as a whole, with some like @droosion insisting this season has 'ruined all of these characters.' 'What Carrie has become to Aidan…they've ruined all of these characters and I've tried to stay positive but it's bad,' the X user admitted. Socially Staci J (@SocialBride26) said, 'Carrie and Aidan's storyline isn't even interesting. It's simply irritating. In no world, would Carrie be okay with Aidan sleeping with an ex wife he still shares land with. End it. Please.' Many others were calling for Carrie and Aidan's relationship to be over like @DerekPlease, who said, 'Aidan is such a d-bag man child cliché, and a fair-weather boyfriend. The writers and show-runners are not even trying to hide it with his nighttime routine. I'm actually happy the writers are in on the joke that is Aidan Shaw.' Veronica Altimari (@VAltimari) said, 'The way I actually GASPED #AJLT GTFO Aiden!!! I hate this mfer so much. What are we doing here?! He needs to GO for good. But for the first time this season, this episode made me laugh and well up because of the LTW storyline. Her MIL for the win.' No chemistry and Aiden is a selfish jerk with 1 asshole of a kid (the other two seem lovely).' Another X user dubbed @dmvrebuild added, 'Chile please.. Aiden and Carrie… end this already #AndJustLikeThat.' Sassypants (@lucysmom83) said, 'Carrie and Aiden lost the magic. This isn't going to work,' while @sagevalentine said, 'Break up with him please!' Another X user dubbed @dmvrebuild added, 'Chile please.. Aiden and Carrie… end this already #AndJustLikeThat.' Elsewhere in the episode, Carrie agreed to read to swap first chapters with her downstairs neighbor, Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake) while Lisa (Nicole Ari Parker) learned her beloved father (Billy Dee Williams) had passed away. Jennifer Lewis guest-starred as Lisa's father's partner at the theater he helped run, who put together an unorthodox funeral. Meanwhile, Seema (Sarita Choudhury) found the perfect apartment for Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Miranda's son Brady (Niall Cunningham) meets her new girlfriend Joy (Dolly Wells) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) finally tells Carrie that her husband Harry (Evan Handler) has prostate cancer and breaks down in tears.

SSB Q1 Deep Dive: Integration Milestones, Capital Flexibility, and Tariff Concerns Shape Outlook

Regional banking company SouthState (NYSE:SSB) reported Q1 CY2025 results topping the market's revenue expectations , with sales up 51.8% year on year to $630.6 million. Its non-GAAP profit of $2.15 per share was 30.8% above analysts' consensus estimates. Is now the time to buy SSB? Find out in our full research report (it's free). Revenue: $630.6 million vs analyst estimates of $607.7 million (51.8% year-on-year growth, 3.8% beat) Adjusted EPS: $2.15 vs analyst estimates of $1.64 (30.8% beat) Market Capitalization: $8.73 billion SouthState's first quarter was marked by significant balance sheet changes, including the completion of a major acquisition, a sale-leaseback of bank branches, and a restructuring of its securities portfolio. Management attributed the quarter's results to a combination of these strategic moves, which drove higher net interest margin and earnings power. CEO John Corbett acknowledged that while these actions boosted returns, loan growth was softer due to seasonal factors, a slowing economy, and competitive loan pricing. Corbett said, 'Some of the slowdown this quarter was normal seasonality, some was the general economy slowing down, and some was just the result of stiff competition on loan pricing.' Looking ahead, SouthState's forward guidance hinges on successful integration of its recent acquisition, ongoing efficiency initiatives, and the uncertain impact of new tariffs. Management emphasized that capital ratios started the year stronger than modeled, providing flexibility for both conservative and growth-oriented strategies. CFO William Matthews highlighted that the company is 'accumulating capital at a rapid pace,' which could enable further acquisitions, buybacks, or dividend increases depending on economic conditions. Management also noted that loan pipelines have improved, but acknowledged that clients are pausing on capital projects due to tariff-related uncertainty. Management attributed quarterly performance to higher net interest margin, balance sheet repositioning, and early cost saves, while noting that subdued loan growth and tariff uncertainties remain key themes. Acquisition and balance sheet reset: The closing of the Independent Financial transaction, combined with a sale-leaseback and securities portfolio restructuring, materially increased SouthState's net interest margin and improved its earnings profile. Management described these moves as necessary to bring asset yields in line with market rates and to strengthen capital ratios. Deposit cost outperformance: CFO William Matthews highlighted that lower-than-expected deposit costs were a major driver of net interest margin improvement. Effective deposit cost management enabled SouthState to report a margin above its initial expectations for the quarter. Loan growth challenges: CEO John Corbett and President Stephen Young pointed to slower balance sheet growth, citing both external economic headwinds and competitive pressures on loan pricing. While production was up, it was not enough to offset the impact of a larger balance sheet. Management did note, however, that loan pipelines had grown 44% since the start of the year, particularly in commercial real estate and commercial and industrial segments. Expense savings ahead of schedule: Management achieved some cost saves earlier than planned, due to delays in hiring and project implementation. Matthews clarified that certain support roles had been eliminated before conversion, and further cost saves are expected as integration progresses. Tariff and credit risk monitoring: SouthState's credit team is closely monitoring the potential impact of tariffs, with a focus on second-order effects in commercial and industrial portfolios. Management reported clients are cautious, pausing on capital projects, but no major credit deterioration has been observed. The company is also reviewing industrial warehouse exposure in port cities for heightened risk. Management expects future performance to hinge on acquisition integration, lending trends, and the evolving impact of tariffs on client activity and credit quality. Integration and operational efficiency: The successful completion and system conversion of the Independent Financial acquisition is expected to drive further efficiency gains and cost synergies. Management believes these efforts will help maintain SouthState's improved net interest margin and support long-term profitability. Loan growth recovery prospects: While loan growth was muted in the quarter, a 44% increase in the loan pipeline—especially in commercial segments—suggests potential for higher origination volumes if economic conditions stabilize. Management cautioned that actual loan growth will depend on how clients respond to tariffs and broader market trends. Tariff and macroeconomic uncertainty: The company is preparing for continued uncertainty as clients pause capital projects in response to new tariffs. Management emphasized that strong capital levels provide flexibility to respond defensively if credit conditions worsen or to pursue opportunities if the environment improves. Looking ahead, the StockStory team will be monitoring (1) the completion and stabilization of the acquisition integration and related cost synergies, (2) the trajectory of loan growth as economic and tariff-related uncertainties play out, and (3) evolving credit quality in portfolios potentially affected by tariffs or a broader economic slowdown. We will also track management's capital allocation decisions as flexibility increases. SouthState currently trades at $87.06, down from $89.84 just before the earnings. Aidan's Snub to Carrie in 'And Just Like That' Episode 3 Might Be My Last Straw

Before season 3 of And Just Like That even aired, John Corbett's Aidan was on thin ice. After all, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) got a whole new fancy apartment in Gramercy Park just to be with him without all their on-and-off memories from her old apartment. But, right before she moved in, Aidan broke the news that he wouldn't be joining her just yet. When his youngest son, 14-year-old Wyatt, got into a car accident while under the influence, Aidan knew he had to stay behind in Virginia and be with him. And sure, one could argue that his decision to ask for the five-year break is nothing but honorable, a good guy being a good dad. But doesn't Carrie deserve a little more respect? Or, better yet, a little more commitment? More from SheKnows Carrie & Aidan's Full Relationship Timeline From Sex and The City to And Just Like That Season 3 then started with Carrie and Aidan in limbo, with them sending each other blank postcards and keeping their distance. Then, Aidan called and not-so-subtly asked for phone sex. It was awkward, cringey, and downright confusing for Carrie, who was just getting used to his new rules. In episode 2, when Aidan went back to New York to see her, they seemingly talked it out. 'I was so upset and I think guilty for being up here the night of Wyatt's accident that I went a little overboard,' he said, adding that they can text and rely on each other while he continues to be 'laser-focused' at home. So as episode 3 of the show started, Carrie was finally feeling some resolve, right? Well, not exactly. When she agrees to join a book panel in Virginia, she tells her friends she'll meet Aidan for an 'easy breezy' lunch. But, deep down, all she wants is for Aidan, who we can only assume is her long-distance boyfriend at this point, to ask her to stay over. After she wallows over it all episode, Aidan finally invites her over. 'I'm so sorry, this is a lot of trouble to go through for lunch,' Carrie says when they meet. 'Yeah, it is, so why not stay for dinner too? And a light breakfast!' But, before Aidan and Carrie fans start celebrating, even his sleepover request takes a turn. 'So listen, I didn't get a chance to tell the boys you were coming,' Aidan tells Carrie when they get to his house. As a reminder, Aidan has three sons, with the youngest being Wyatt. 'But it's okay that I'm here?' she asks, feeling understandably uninvited. 'Yes, but we've got this thing now where the night before we lay out what the next day's gonna be,' he explains. 'And you don't want to like, spring me on them?' Carrie asks. 'No, but yeah, kind of,' he says. Instinctively, Carrie's frustrated, but she jokes it off. 'Understood, so should I just sleep in a field, staying up like a horse?' she says. 'That's what they do, right?' 'Guesthouse,' Aidan then replies. 'Neat as a pin.' Seriously?! As they get out of the truck, Aidan tries to make up for the request. 'I'm so glad you're here,' he says. 'Huh, you have a funny way of showing it,' Carrie says, before he gives her a big ol' kiss. In the final scene of the episode, Carrie is then sitting alone in Aidan's guesthouse bed (no, Aidan didn't join her), writing on her laptop. Whether you were a longtime fan of Aidan and Carrie or not, it's safe to say their recent chapters were a little too bumpy. After all, after he asked for a five-year break to take care of his family, he was the one who gave nothing but mixed signals by asking for phone sex and surprising her with a visit. And now that Carrie's feeling that she can approach him again, he's exiled her to his guesthouse after she traveled all the way to Virginia. Is getting on a flight not enough to get to the main house? From the looks of it, Carrie's still determined to make it work and has already forgiven him by the time she goes to bed. But will her fans do the same?Best of SheKnows Every Single Time Kate Middleton's Royal Fashion Made Us Stop in Our Tracks Ariana Madix, Kristen Stewart, & More Stars Who Had Dramatic Hair Changes Which One of Donald's Trump's Kids Has The Highest Net Worth? Is this the worst episode of And Just Like That ever? Bitter fans slam Carrie's 'awful' love story and cringeworthy scenes

After two buzzworthy episodes of Season 3 of Max's And Just Like That... fans have turned on the show already after the lackluster third episode. The new season got started with a bang, with Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) taking a nun's virginity, which had fans talking. The second episode that introduced a hot gardener named Adam (Logan Marshall Green) that had fans abuzz as well. The third episode - entitled Carrie Golightly - found Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) heading to Virginia for a literary convention, as she decided to surprise Aidan (John Corbett) for a casual lunch. Seema (Sarita Choudhury) decided to tag along after getting blindsided by her boss, who decided to sell the company to Million Dollar Listing star Ryan Serhant, playing himself. The episode failed to provide any sort of buzzworthy moment like its first two Season 3 predecessors, which had fans blasting the show as 'awful' and this episode's cringeworthy scenes. The episode begins with Carrie taking a video call from Amanda (Ashlie Atkinson), who informs her of speaking offers for Google and SXSW, but she's intrigued by a memoirist panel in Williamsburg, Virginia. Given it's proximity to her beloved Aiden, she decides to go to Virginia, and Seema decides to tag along at the last minute to mull over her future after her boss sold the company she was supposed to take over out from under her to Serhant. Meanwhile, back in New York, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) finds herself needing to stay out later to sell her art, so she hits the clubs to show she can hang. Her husband Harry (Evan Handler) wants to prove that he can still be fun too so he joins her, after shopping for some new threads with Carrie. Unfortunately for Harry, the button-fly jeans he got proved to be too complicated, resulting in him peeing his pants at the club. After explaining what happened, Charlotte went to the after-party without him, where the rich Dutch man she was trying to sell paintings to tried to kiss her. Miranda had a date with a producer she likes, Carrie is told her drivers license has been expired for years, leading to Seema driving and ruining the rental car. While Carrie was stewing over Aidan not asking her to stay, he finally does... only to relegate her to the guest house, to not make things awkward for his kids. The episode ends with Carrie sitting on the bed of her room in the guest house, plucking away at her new book, which didn't sit well with many fans.
