'We are sending the love right back' - new Jota mural near Anfield
A new mural paying tribute to Diogo Jota has been completed near by artist John Culshaw, the mural depicts Jota smiling and holding his hands up to make a love heart in a moment of celebration. It is the latest of many fan-led tributes to the Reds' number 20, who died in a car crash alongside his brother, Andre Silva, earlier this week, street artist organisation MurWalls - in conjunction with a group of fans - created a 'Forever 20' mural on Sybil Road in the city, allowing supporters to add their own messages and tributes. This new mural is located on the outside of the Halfway House pub, just a short walk from Anfield."As Liverpool fans, we know how to deal with tragedy and show our appreciation to someone who has given us so much," said Culshaw. "I picked this image to paint because it shows Diogo sending love out to the fans and by immortalising him in our city, it shows that we are sending the love right back."Diogo has given us so many memories. It's only right he will remain our number 20 forever."

'Massive love' as 'You can't keep a red down'
A mural celebrating Liverpool FC's Premier League title win has been fixed after a hooded man vandalised it just 24 hours after it was unveiled. Footage captured by security cameras at The Sandon showed a man approaching the mural at around 6.50am on Saturday, April 26. The footage shows a man in a dark hoodie and shorts looking up and down the street with his hands in the front pocket of his hoodie. A number of vehicles go past before the man takes a white bottle out of his hoodie and walks over to the celebratory mural. He can then be seen spraying an unknown substance all over the mural, before looking around the corner and doing the same thing again. The two minute clip was captured on security cameras outside the pub. The footage caused an uproar, with people calling the act 'cowardly' and 'sad'. Ronnie Rogers said on Facebook: "This is so sad. Such a beautiful mural that carries the love of so many and gives joy to even those not involved in this amazing team. "Why would anyone want to spoil the pleasure of such a wonderful project?" Laura Baugh also said: "How sad must his life be. Joking and bantering is one thing but to actually leave the house, buy whatever it is he is vandalising with and actually do it is far more time and effort than anyone with a life has surely." Following the act of vandalism, Danny Claeys, general manager at The Sandon pub told the ECHO: "It's just so disappointing. "We posted it on our social media and the feedback was amazing and he's just spoiled it for everyone. We were really excited to have it done. 24 hours it has been up." The mural was created by John Culshaw, who is responsible for some of Liverpool's most eye-catching and best loved murals, including those of Ringo Starr and Nelson Mandela. It appears the artist returned to his mural to undo the damage, just in time for Liverpool's game against Spurs. The Sandon posted a picture of the revived mural on their Facebook page on Saturday evening, stating: "Back and fixed! Big massive love to the incredible John Culshaw! You can't keep a red down. Make sure you come along tomorrow and get your picture with the new mural!" John has created some of the city's most striking Liverpool FC artworks, including a mural of former Reds manager Jurgen Klopp on the side of the Spanish Caravan building on Slater Street, and the Anfield Road Mo Salah mural, opposite the King Harry pub. Liverpool won the Premier League title for the second time yesterday, and their 20th league title, (Sunday April 27) when they beat Spurs 5-1 at Anfield. Celebrations lasted into the night as red mist covered the area in and around the ground. The fact their previous success - which came after a 30-year wait - arrived during the Covid pandemic, when fans weren't allowed into stadiums, made this time round even sweeter.
