Forward Wells to leave Bristol City

Bristol City have confirmed that forward Nahki Wells is to leave this summer after five-and-a-half-years at the was out of contract and discussions had been ongoing over a new deal. The 35-year-old made 237 appearances for the Robins after signing at the start of 2020 and scored 48 goals - including 10 this past season as the club finished in the Championship play-off places for the first time since 2008."We've created so many special memories that will live with me forever. You've taken me in as one of your own and made my family feel at home from the moment I joined the club," Wells said in a club statement."The moment on the pitch at Ashton Gate finding out we'd made the play-off places is something I will never forget, celebrating something we worked so hard to achieve with the fans who backed us the whole way." Wells joined Bristol City from Burnley in January 2020 in a deal worth £5m and has been a regular presence in their front line under managers Lee Johnson, Dean Holden, Nigel Pearson and most recently Liam said in March - before he left to become Norwich head coach - he hoped Wells would extend his stay at the club after having a "fantastic season".This season the Bermuda international was the only player in the squad over the age of 30 and he leaves four days after Gerhard Struber was appointed the new head coach."I'd like to thank Nahki for everything he has given to Bristol City in his time here," Bristol City chairman Jon Lansdown said."He has been an exceptional role model on and off the pitch, contributing significantly both to the first team and to the development of a number of our young players, and also helping the Robins Foundation to make a difference in our community."

Forwards will get new 'lease of life' under Struber

New Bristol City manager Gerhard Struber's style of play will give a new "lease of life" to the club's forwards, chairman Jon Lansdown Mayulu, Sinclair Armstrong and Harry Cornick are the three centre-forwards in the squad for next season, although Mayulu spent much of the last campaign on loan and Cornick was out however, reiterated that bolstering their forward line was a priority this summer."Gerhard often plays with two up top, it's a completely different thing. It gives a new lease of life to your Fally's and Sinclair - they will be a really good fit for this style," Lansdown told BBC Radio Bristol."We we still need more because you might have two playing up there rather than one. It's things we're already thinking and already on."Nahki Wells' future at the club still remains unresolved. The 34-year-old was said to be in talks over a new contract last month."I haven't got anything to update at the moment other than we've not lost contact, I've still seen him in and around keeping fit," Lansdown said."We'll pick that up when we get going with Gerhard."

Gerhard Struber replaces Liam Manning as Bristol City manager

Former FC Coln manager Gerhard Struber has been named as the latest man to take on Bristol City's Premier League ambitions. The 48-year-old Austrian has signed a deal that takes him to the end of the 2027/28 campaign and replaces Liam Manning, who recently departed to become manager of Norwich City. Bristol City chairman Jon Lansdown told the club's website: 'We are delighted to have Gerhard joining us. He has managed in a variety different countries, including in the Championship, and brings a wealth of experience and energy. 'For the last four years, we have moved our academy teams towards a high intensity, pressing style of play, and combined this with recruiting younger players with those same capabilities for the first team. 'Gerhard's style is perfectly suited to this way of playing and his passion for developing younger players is also a great fit for our club. 'It's a really exciting appointment and I'm looking forward to us building on the progress the club has made.' Also speaking to the club website, Struber said: 'I am very excited for the job here with great fans and a great team. I'm looking forward to a new task. 'The style of play here fits completely, especially developing young players. 'This is a very interesting group, and I think they did a great job last season and were very successful. Right now is the time to build and do everything we can to take us to the next level.' The Robins made the Championship play-offs last season but came out on the wrong end of their semi-final clash with Sheffield United, losing 3-0 in both legs. They've not played top flight football since 1980. A former midfield player for SV Austria Salzburg and Austrian Under 21 international, Struber has previous experience managing in the EFL with Barnsley. He's also been at the helm at both New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Salzburg. His most recent appointment with FC Koln was terminated by the German club last month.
