2025 NFC West right tackle rankings: Cardinals' Jonah Williams at the top

Arizona's Jonah Williams ranks atop the NFC West among the starting right tackles. We are in the final stretch of the NFL offseason as the Arizona Cardinals open training camp on July 22. Leading up to then, as we have for several offseasons, we go through the players and position groups in the NFC West and rank them. Next up, we look at the starting right tackles for the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks and rank them. 1. Jonah Williams, Arizona Cardinals He only played six games for the Cardinals last season, but when healthy, he is far and away the best right tackle in the division. He not only is steady, he is capable of giving a team high-end play. 2. Rob Havenstein, LA Rams Havenstein enters his 11th NFL season and has been steady. He has 141 career starts. He is, though, on the back end of his career now. 3. Colton McKivitz, San Francisco 49ers He enters his third season as the Niners' starting right tackle. He was a low-cost option after Mike McGlinchey left and hasn't been bad, but the Niners are making plans to replace him. He enters the final season of his contract and, if he plays well, could nail down big money. 4. Abe Lucas, Seattle Seahawks Lucas is a promising player. However, a nagging knee injury has limited him to 13 games in the last two seasons. He was drafted in the first round by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2019 and spent five seasons there, missing his rookie season to injury, playing as their starting left tackle for three seasons and then their starting right tackle for one. He signed a two-year contract to join the Cardinals last season and be their starting right tackle. Countdown to Kickoff: Jonah Williams is the Saints Player of Day 54

Williams may be a dark horse roster candidate to make the team There is a 54 day wait remaining before the New Orleans Saints start their 2025 regular season. The Saints will start this, their 59th NFL season, at home against the Arizona Cardinals. Joining new Saints head coach Kellen Moore are several new faces on the coaching staff and among the player personnel. One of those new players is defensive lineman Jonah Williams. Our Saints Player of the Day, Williams is also in current possession of uniform No. 54. Only Weber State offered Williams a football scholarship out of Rocky Mountain High School in Idaho. Before starting at Weber State, Williams served a nearly two-year Latter-Day Saint mission in Brazil. Once arriving at Weber State, he'd be a four-year starter that forced 3 fumbles and had 15 sacks and 28 tackles for loss through his career with the Wildcats. Bypassed in the 2020 NFL draft, Williams was signed by the Los Angeles Rams and Brandon Staley, their defensive coordinator at the time. Williams didn't make it past final roster cuts for the Rams in 2020, but spent time on the team's practice squad that year and would make their 2021 active roster. He'd play in eight games for the Rams to start the 2021 campaign, playing in 96 defensive snaps before being waived. The Minnesota Vikings briefly picked Williams up, but released him after a failed physical. He'd return to the Rams, where he'd finish the year on the practice squad and earned a Super Bowl LVI championship ring. Williams remained with the Rams through the 2023 season. He would appear in 33 of 34 games, making 22 starts and recording 2.5 sacks with 4 tackles for loss among 72 total stops. During the 2024 offseason, Williams would return to the Vikings as a free agent. He would play in one game with Minnesota before being signed off their practice squad by the Rams once again. After six contests with Los Angeles, Williams was poached off their practice squad by the Detroit Lions. Williams played three games with Detroit to end the year, including their loss in the divisional round of the playoffs. New Orleans signed Jonah Williams this offseason in free agency. He'll be reunited with Brandon Staley, the Saints defensive coordinator who coached him in Los Angeles. Williams appears to have an uphill battle to make the roster in a crowded New Orleans defensive line. However, it is also a defensive front desperate for playmakers. Williams brings some scheme versatility with his ability to slide inside. He's worth watching as a potential dark horse roster candidate as the Saints begin training camp in just one week.

1 obvious Cardinals trade candidate entering 2025 training camp

The post 1 obvious Cardinals trade candidate entering 2025 training camp appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Arizona Cardinals might need to upgrade their wide receiver depth while also getting an even better connection between Trey McBride and his quarterback. Meanwhile, here is one obvious Cardinals trade candidate entering the 2025 training camp. Advertisement Offensive lineman Jonah Williams fits the mold as a guy the Cardinals might be willing to deal. Before this year's draft, Williams got tagged as the Cardinals' best trade piece, according to Pro Football Focus, 'Williams could be on the move, given the right circumstances,' Bradley Locker wrote. 'The former first-round pick turned in a 73.3 PFF pass-blocking grade last year, although he played just 343 total snaps. Still only 27 but a free agent in 2026, Williams would probably garner interest around the league.' Contract could encourage Cardinals to move OT Jonah Williams Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images It's not like the Cardinals are trying to get rid of Williams. But the five-year veteran will be a free agent in 2026. And he has three years (2021-23) of starting almost every game under his belt. Advertisement However, Williams played only six games in 2024. And there are questions surrounding his ability to be ready from the get-go this year. Things are trending up, according to 'Paris (Johnson Jr.) and Jonah are both going through a good offseason,' GM Monti Ossenfort said. 'We will see in the spring (how much they do), but we don't have any concerns. We are ready to roll with both those guys.' Williams is an important part of the Cardinals' 2025 plans. The team won't give him away. And if Kelvin Beachum is on target, the Cardinals may not want to trade any of their offensive linemen. He predicted a big season, according to 'We've got to get things done here this year, and that's just the nature of the NFL,' Beachum said. 'This is a performance-based business. This is year three of this regime. Playoffs are long overdue in some regards, and we gotta find a way. Advertisement 'You've got to talk about it. You can't be like, 'oh, we don't have this piece. We don't have this piece. We lack in here.' No, no, it is time out for all those things. What is important is putting ourselves in a position to clock a ticket to be in the dance and then see what happens from there.' Are the Cardinals in position to have standout season? Furthermore, Beachum said the Cardinals have all of the ammunition they need. 'What about the offensive line? That box is checked. Well, what about the quarterback? Box is checked. What about the running back? Box is checked. Receivers, box is checked. DBs, box is checked. And then you spent a ton of money on the defensive line, and you drafted defensive line and you drafted corners. So like, what are we talking about?' Advertisement Meanwhile, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said he wants all of his players to improve and be ready to soar in 2025, according to 'There is a lot they can work on as far as their development as players on and off the field. That's the expectation,' he said. 'I don't want these guys to show up the same as when they left, or you're going to be behind.' Across the line, the Cardinals have other weapons along with Williams, according to 'Right guard – Isaiah Adams. The one job that seems to be open, although the 2024 third-round pick has the inside track,' Darren Urban wrote. 'Improved his strength in offseason, and needs to show out when the pads come on. Advertisement 'Center – Hjalte Froholdt. In two seasons has developed into one of the underrated guys at the position in the league. Left guard – Evan Brown. Veteran returns after solid season a year ago. Left tackle – Paris Johnson Jr. Turning into the anchor left tackle — and leader — GM Monti Ossenfort was hoping he'd become.' In particular, Adams could be a player who emerges, according to 'He got thrown a little into a fire last year, and what better way than to get tossed in there,' Froholdt said. 'Make some mistakes and learn from it.' Adams added, 'I can feel the strength, and I can feel the game slowing down.'
