PDS Biotechnology completes recruitment for stage one of colorectal cancer trial

PDS Biotechnology has completed subject recruitment for stage one of its open-label Phase II trial, evaluating the systemic administration of fused antibody drug conjugate (ADC) PDS01ADC in conjunction with floxuridine given via hepatic artery infusion pump for metastatic colorectal cancer patients. Spearheaded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI)'s surgical oncology section chief Dr Jonathan Hernandez, the single-centre, non-randomised trial includes three cohorts of metastatic colorectal cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, and adrenocortical cancer. Each cohort leverages a Simon two-stage trial design. For the colorectal cancer cohort, the continuation to enrol up to a total of 22 subjects was contingent on at least six out of nine participants showing an objective response by response evaluation criteria in solid tumours (RECIST) v1.1 criteria. The trial has met the pre-set RECIST v1.1 criteria for expansion into stage two. The other two cohorts are still recruiting in stage one. The trial is part of a collaborative research and development agreement with the NCI. PDS Biotechnology noted that the ADC is composed of two interleukin-12 (IL-12) heterodimers. Each of these is fused to the NHS76 antibody, which attaches to single-stranded and double-stranded DNA and targets areas of tumour necrosis, where there is DNA exposure. PDS Biotechnology CEO and president Frank Bedu-Addo said: 'This novel investigational approach to the targeting and use of IL-12 results in little or no systemic exposure to IL-12, and may allow patients to reap the benefits of cytokine therapy without the typical treatment-limiting toxicities. 'We are delighted that the NCI has achieved this milestone and anticipate completion of patient recruitment for the metastatic colorectal cancer cohort of the study by the fourth quarter of 2025.' The company is also commencing a pivotal trial to progress its lead programme in advanced human papillomavirus (HPV)16-positive head and neck squamous cell cancers. Versamune HPV, the company's lead investigational targeted immunotherapy, is under development in conjunction with a standard-of-care immune checkpoint inhibitor and in a triple combo that includes PDS01ADC. Pilgrimage celebrates holy Eucharist in downtown San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — A pilgrimage went through Downtown San Angelo celebrating Pentecost Sunday with a holy Eucharist, the Blessed Sacrament, otherwise known as the body of Jesus Christ, on Sunday, June 8. 'Our faith that is the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord, Jesus Christ,' said Adam Wolin, Pilgrim from Odessa, Texas. 'He gave us the Eucharist so he could be with us, always. So it means a lot. And I just want to show my support to my Lord.' According to Rev. Ryan Rojo, San Angelo Catholic Diocese, there has been a three-year revival of Catholics where the United States Bishops are inviting Catholic people to meditate on a deeper reality of the Eucharist. Pilgrims commented that they find this time as a time of healing. That even in the heat of the morning in Texas, they are willing to walk for the Lord. 'You just imagine Jesus actually walking, and everybody else following it, puts it in perspective,' said Jonathan Hernandez, National Eucharistic Pilgrimage. This event started in May in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is passing through West Texas and will conclude in Los Angeles, California, later this month. The reason is the hopes of unifying the church and the world. 'I think that the Holy Spirit is actively inviting us to the power of Eucharist to really reclaim our baptism, our identity, our identity as Christians and our identity as a church,' Rojo said. As the Pilgrimage continues, it is expected to be in Fort Stockton over the next few days before making its final stop in Texas, in El Paso. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Bethune-Cookman ready for ACC rematch on the diamond

Bethune-Cookman University heads into the NCAA Tallahassee Regional with momentum and belief, taking on host Florida State out of the ACC on Friday at 3 p.m. ET at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium. The Wildcats (SWAC champions) enter the four-team regional as the No. 4 seed, while the Seminoles are the No. 9 national seed and ranked No. 7 in the latest Top 25. This marks Bethune-Cookman's sixth appearance in the Tallahassee Regional. The Wildcats are winless in 10 previous games, including five losses to Florida State. Head Coach Jonathan Hernandez, fresh off celebrating his daughter's high school graduation, believes this year's squad is different. "We come into this regional with nothing to lose. That makes us dangerous," Hernandez said. "Nobody expects us to win, but we believe." The Wildcats' belief is bolstered by a dramatic walk-off win over Florida A&M in the SWAC Championship, where Andrey Martinez's three-run homer capped a 19th come-from-behind victory of the season. Martinez tied the program's single-season home run record (20), and shortstop Jeter Polledo went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the title game. Florida State (38-14), led by ACC Player and Defensive Player of the Year Alex Lodise, boasts a .315 team batting average and averages nearly eight runs per game. The Seminoles finished runner-up in the ACC and are making their 61st NCAA Tournament appearance. Bethune-Cookman will need another inspired performance to challenge the Seminoles and snap their postseason drought. Our Vaughn Wilson will be at the game embedded with the Wildcats. HBCU rivals set to square off in SWAC baseball championship

The 2025 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Baseball Championship game is set to feature a thrilling matchup between two HBCU powerhouses: Florida A&M University (FAMU) and Bethune-Cookman University. The championship game will take place on Sunday, May 25, at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama . Bethune-Cookman enters the title game as the No. 1 seed, boasting a 24–5 conference record. The Wildcats have demonstrated resilience throughout the tournament, including a dramatic 8–7 extra-inning victory over Alabama State to secure their spot in the final . Under the leadership of head coach Jonathan Hernandez, Bethune-Cookman aims to add another championship to its storied baseball history. FAMU, the No. 2 seed with a 24–6 conference record, has showcased its offensive prowess in the tournament. The Rattlers advanced to the championship game after a decisive 9–1 victory over Grambling State in the semifinals. FAMU's lineup has been bolstered by standout performances from All-SWAC selections, contributing to its impressive run. This championship game not only determines the SWAC title but also carries significant implications for HBCU baseball, as the winner secures an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. The matchup rekindles a fierce rivalry between FAMU and Bethune-Cookman, adding another chapter to their storied history. Fans can expect a competitive and high-stakes game as these two teams vie for conference supremacy. The 2025 SWAC Baseball Championship promises to be a showcase of talent, determination, and the rich tradition of HBCU baseball. For the uninformed, the initial rounds of the SWAC tournament feature two separate double-elimination brackets, each comprising four teams. Teams are seeded based on their regular-season performance, with the top four finishers from each division qualifying for the tournament. Within these brackets, a team must lose two games to be eliminated, allowing for a potential recovery from an early loss. However, the culmination of the tournament-the championship game-is a single-elimination matchup between the winners of the two brackets. This means that regardless of a team's performance in the earlier rounds, the title is decided in one decisive game. This format adds a layer of intensity and finality to the championship, as there is no opportunity for redemption in the final.
