Osher Günsberg reveals the REAL reason why Channel 10 decided to fire Survivor host Jonathan LaPaglia

Osher Günsberg has weighed in on the axing of Jonathan LaPaglia from Australian Survivor. The TV personality, who hosted The Masked Singer and The Bachelor before they were cancelled last year, defended Channel 10's decision to sack the popular star, saying it was just 'show business'. 'In a time when no one's greenlighting anything really, the only things that are going… are the shows that are going again,' the 51-year-old told Chattr on Tuesday. He added that networks are doing everything they can do to keep their formats fresh, the decision to axe Jonathan, according to Osher, was one that was made to keep people watching at home. 'If that's what they need to do to keep [Australian Survivor] healthy, then you know, it's show business, not show friends.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Osher went on to say that, as someone who enjoyed his stint as a television host, he understood this better than most. 'So there's the business case, and it will always be the reason you make a choice like that,' he said. In June, Jonathan confirmed he had been axed as host of Australian Survivor after a decade in the role. The 55-year-old, who has fronted the hit show since 2016, will make his final appearance on the upcoming season, Australia V The World, set to air later this year. In a lengthy Instagram post, Jonathan said he was shocked by Channel Ten's decision to let him go. He also revealed the brutal way the network delivered the news - via telephone. 'Australian Survivor has seen some of the most epic blindsides over the last 10 years, but this one might just be the craziest of them all… because it happened to me,' he began on Instagram. 'I received a call from the Network thanking me for all my hard work and dedication to the show but for next season they are "going in a different direction,"' he explained. 'Ratings had dipped a bit recently and they wanted to do something drastic to shake things up. So for the first time ever this is not a tribe swap, but a host swap. Yes, you read that right. 'I wish I could say, "Before we go to vote, tonight is a little different… no one's going home". But I can't. None of that non-elim bulls**t tonight! Someone IS going home. And with no idol in my back pocket, that someone is me.' 'I have loved and will dearly miss the immensely talented crew, all the crafty players and our loyal sassy audience. I'm a huge fan of this incredible game, always have been, always will be.' 'It has been one of the greatest adventures of my career to helm Australian Survivor, so it is without a doubt the hardest challenge of all to snuff my own torch, but here goes: "JLP… the tribe has spoken."' The comments section of the post was inundated with love for the longtime TV host, as well as hate towards Channel Ten and their decision to sack the beloved star. 'Boo @channel10au, what're you thinking? JLP is the show,' one person wrote. Another added: 'WTAF! Huge mistake by Channel 10. We love you JLP. So sad to see you go!!' 'Getting rid of JLP will surely kill the show rather than bring in new viewers,' one fan penned, adding: 'Do better Channel 10. You clearly have no idea about your audience if you think this is the answer.'

Another huge name is rumoured not to be returning to Channel 10 after Jonathan LaPaglia was axed from Survivor Australia. According to a TV insider, Rodger Corser was quietly 'let go' after the quirky reality show he hosted, The Traitors, was cancelled at the end of 2024. Channel 10 confirmed to Daily Mail Australia on Monday that the show would not be back, amid recent speculation that the network was looking at a reboot. According to a TV insider, Corser was quietly 'let go' after the quirky reality show he hosted, The Traitors , was cancelled at the end of 2024 Launched in 2022, The Traitors was cancelled after two seasons due to poor ratings and a massive viewer backlash. More heartache for Jonathan LaPagila as he loses ANOTHER job after shock Survivor sacking

Less than a week after his shock exit from Australian Survivor, popular host Jonathan LaPaglia has been dealt another major blow. Top Gear Australia is thought to have been quietly dropped from Paramount+'s production slate, leaving the popular host without a local series to host. Daily Mail Australia can exclusively reveal that the big-budget reboot will not return in 2025 or 2026 for its slated second season. The 2024 series, starring LaPagila, marked the third attempt to relaunch the iconic British motoring format locally, after two false starts by SBS and Nine. It has now been shelved indefinitely by Network 10. LaPagila steered the latest iteration of the wildly successful Top Gear franchise, alongside Amazing Race Australia host Beau Ryan, and YouTube series Car Mods co-host Blair 'Moog' Joscelyne, who boasts 3.8 million followers. The eight-part series, co-produced by BBC Studios Australia, premiered in May 2024 on Paramount+ and is one of the streamer's most-watched local originals. 'It hasn't been officially axed,' a source close to the production tells Daily Mail, 'but it's absolutely not coming back — at least not with this line-up.' It follows a turbulent few weeks for LaPaglia, who was also dropped as host of Australian Survivor, a role he held since the show's 2016 reboot. News of his axing by email sparked fierce backlash online, with many fans declaring Survivor 'unwatchable' without him. According to industry insiders, Network Ten and streaming partner Paramount+ are undertaking a broad overhaul of their reality TV offerings, with a major shift towards younger, more diverse presenters. 'There's been a sweep of changes behind the scenes,' an executive source tells Daily Mail. 'Several long-standing hosts, not just JLP, have been quietly told they're not part of the future.' While official announcements are expected at the network's Upfronts event in September, sources say decisions have already been made regarding several key on-air personalities. 'The direction now is clear: younger talent, more energy, and fresh faces. It's not personal, it's branding,' the source added. In dozens of interviews last year, LaPagila and his co-hosts waxed lyrical about their 'chemistry' and 'mateship' being the key to revitalising Top Gear. However, the trio of self-confessed fanboys, and even Network 10/Paramount+ Australia executive producer Ciaran Flannery, freely admitted their nerves about picking up the seemingly poisoned TV chalice. 'The original version was so good, it was so well done,' LaPagila told Mumbrella. 'It's not like we're taking a crappy version and aiming to make a better version, we're starting with something that was already really good. 'So if I'm perfectly honest, I did feel the pressure and the weight of that, because I know those comparisons are going to be inevitable. So that did give me pause initially – as it does hinge on the relationship between the three of us.' The most recent update on season two was posted eight months ago when the series went free-to-air on Channel 10, sparking excited chatter from the hosts Despite big expectations, Top Gear Australia's 2024 revival failed to rev up a lasting impression. While critics praised the high production value, fans online described the series as 'underwhelming' and 'lacking spark'. 'A new series won't air in 2025,' one Ten insider tells Daily Mail, 'but we continue to work with BBC Studios on what a new series might look like.' Speaking to Mediaweek last year, network EP Flannery said that Paramount+ would never make Top Gear again if it wasn't able to match the production value of the show's best international versions. 'It's got to be up there, and the reality is the scale that Paramount+ gives us allows us to go global,' he said. 'Paramount+ delivered a production value that arguably a local version might not quite have matched.' The show also struggled to generate the buzz of its original 2008 version or the more chaotic 2011 reboot. Ratings were reportedly modest and social media engagement flatlined after the season premiere. 'It looked great, but felt like it was trying too hard to replicate the UK version,' one fan surmised on Reddit. 'There was no reason to bring it back.' The most recent update on Top Gear's future came eight months ago, in a joint Instagram post made by Beau Ryan and LaPagila to announce season one would go free-to-air on Ten. 'Myself, Jonathan, and Blair embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. Supercars, super boats, muscle cars, EVs, hatchbacks, trucks, tanks, , tractors, caravans, you name it, we sent it,' Beau wrote. 'There were tears, fires, nudity, laughter and plenty of hugs. Obviously in that order. After being such a huge success on Paramount+ the guys at 10 have made the choice to air it on Channel 10 and we couldn't be more excited.' Then crickets. While neither Network Ten nor Paramount+ have confirmed LaPaglia's future with the network, insiders say the writing is on the wall. 'He hasn't done anything wrong,' said one inside source. 'But he's part of an era that Ten is trying to move past.'

Axed Channel 10 star Jonathan LaPaglia rumoured to host US version of Survivor after brutal sacking

Just days after he was brutally axed from Channel 10, Jonathan LaPaglia is rumoured to have bagged a new gig in the US. It was revealed last week that the current host of Survivor Australia had been informed over a 'cold' email that Channel 10 had decided the show needed a refresh and that he wouldn't be part of it. But now, LaPaglia could have the last laugh as rumours are swirling that he could be being lined up to replace US host, Jeff Probst, according to New Idea. LaPaglia and Probst are good mates, and have met up for dinner on numerous occasions, with the Australian previously confessing to being a huge fan of the US series. 'JLP is the best. I think a lot of the issue with Jeff is his evolution into this motivational speaker that none of us asked for. Jeff in the early days was more interesting to watch host. Not so much anymore,' remarked one fan amid the speculation. 'He's [JLP] my pick to for replacement host if Jeff retires,' another Survivor fan shared. Rumours of Probst's departure were further fuelled when he shared a video of himself advertising the 50th season of the show. Fans of the franchise were quick to remark that the long-running presenter looked 'unhappy' and 'over' his job, sparking suggestions that it could be his last season in front of the camera. Meanwhile, the rumours emerged after new details about how longtime Survivor host LaPaglia was axed from the Aussie version of the show. The Australian TV host, who has helmed the Channel 10 show since its revival in 2016, will not return as a presenter next year. LaPaglia initially made a statement telling fans that he had been 'blindsided' by the network, and now it's been claimed that the long-running star was informed of his sacking via a 'cold' email. 'He got an email first,' a source told Daily Mail. 'That was the initial comms from EndemolShine.' 'Then a call came from Ten, but by then it was already done. It's really not how you treat someone who's been part of the show for almost a decade.' To make matters worse, the source alleges that LaPaglia received the sudden email before he had finished filming Survivor: Australia vs. The World. The insider claimed that the decision to fire LaPaglia was 'locked in' for months, but in order to avoid any trouble during the filming of his latest season they wanted to wait until the show was complete.

Rumours swirl about Survivor Australia host Jonathan LaPaglia's new TV gig after he is dumped from show - and it would be the ultimate revenge on Channel 10

Former Survivor Australia host Jonathan LaPaglia may just get the ultimate revenge on Channel Ten as rumours swirl about his next TV gig. The 55-year-old, who fronted the hit show for nine years before getting the axe, is reportedly in the running for an even bigger opportunity. Jonathan could be eyed to replace Jeff Probst as host of the US iteration of Survivor. Jeff, 63, who has been the face of Survivor US for 25 years since its inception in 2000, recently posted a video on Instagram in the build-up to the series' 50th season in Fiji. However, fans were quick to point out the long-time host's lack of enthusiasm in the clip, with a few suggesting he step down from the role and let Jonathan take the reins. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Former Survivor Australia host Jonathan LaPaglia (pictured) may just get the ultimate revenge as rumours swirl of his next TV gig 'Bro's not excited at all,' one fan wrote, sparking speculation that he may be on his way to retirement. '[JLP's] my pick for replacement host if Jeff retires,' another penned. The US opportunity would be a good move for Jonathan, who already lives in Los Angeles with his wife Ursula Brooks and their daughter Tilly. Jonathan confirmed last week he has been axed as host of Australian Survivor after nearly a decade in the role. The media personality will make his final appearance on the upcoming season, Australia V The World, set to air later this year. In a lengthy Instagram post, Jonathan said he was shocked by Channel Ten's decision to let him go, which was first revealed by Daily Mail Australia on Sunday. He also revealed the brutal way the network delivered the news - via telephone. In what some are calling a risky move, Jonathan is expected to be replaced by Survivor: All Stars winner and former model David Genat - who recently made headlines after winning a whopping US$5.8 million (AU$8.7 million) on Deal or No Deal Island in the US. But not everyone is convinced he's the right man for the job. 'He doesn't fit the brief,' one source close added. 'He's charismatic, sure - but Survivor needs someone with gravitas. David is not Jonathan, and viewers will notice that.' The hosting change comes amid a ratings slump for the once high-flying franchise. The most recent season, Brains v Brawn II, saw viewership plummet to as low as 486,000 total overnight viewers - a far cry from the million-plus numbers it once pulled.
