Knife-wielding car passenger threatened to stab cops
'Numerous' police vehicles arrived in response to an emergency call by the officers.
Police officers 'feared for their lives' when a car passenger chased them while brandishing a hunting knife.
Jordan Bonner threatened to stab the frightened cops because they'd taken the keys from the driver.
They threw back the keys when he cornered them in St Andrew's Court, Blantyre.
Bonner eventually fled the scene on foot after realising a police vehicle had blocked his car's exit.
The 23-year-old appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week. He admitted threatening two PCs on March 27 last year.
Co-accused Natalie McGlame, 36, of St Andrew's Court, walked free from court.
Her not guilty pleas to charges that she reversed towards one of the PCs and rammed the police car were accepted.
An allegation that McGlame and Bonner were concerned in the supply of cocaine was dropped.
The court heard that police were looking for Bonner in relation to another matter. The car in which he was a passenger was followed into St Andrew's Court about 7.30pm.
The officers got out of their car and approached the other vehicle, but when the first PC took the keys Bonner became aggressive.
Scott O'Connor, prosecuting, said: 'He pulled out a large hunting-style knife, pointed it in the face of [the first PC] and said 'Give me the keys back or I'll kill you'.
'The two police officers retreated to the rear of the vehicle. The accused then exited and, fearing for their lives, the officers ran towards a nearby house to take cover.
'The accused chased them, brandishing the knife and threatening to stab them.
'The officers ended up cornered on the footpath. Bonner continued to demand the keys and made thrusting motions with his hand.
'Due to the threats and violence, [the first PC] decided to throw the keys on the ground.
'The accused picked them up and went back to the vehicle while the officers raised an emergency on their police radio.'
Mr O'Connor said Bonner realised the car was blocked in and ordered the police officers to move their vehicle or he would 'slit your throat'. He slashed one of the tyres with his knife.
The officers fled to the car park at St Andrew's Parish Church.
'Numerous' police vehicles arrived in response to the emergency call, but by this time Bonner had jumped over a fence and fled.
He was traced two days later at an address in Glasgow.
Bonner admitted previous convictions and defence lawyer Scott Jones conceded his behaviour towards the police had been 'reprehensible'.
But he pointed out that his client had spent more than a year in jail after his arrest before being granted bail.
Sheriff John Speir deferred sentence until August for background reports.
